Title: Cimarron US Finish Artillery SAA Model P
Post by: Virginia Gentleman on January 10, 2006, 03:13:11 PM: I just picked up this gun after waiting almost 3 months for it and it looks great. The Turnbull case colors are amazing compared tp the standard finish and the newer high polish blue is much nicer than the standard offering. I compared them side by side and it does indeed merit the extra cost while far cheaper than the Colt or USFA. The only thing I wish it had were a firing pin bushing, but other than that I am satisfied and can't wait to shoot it.

Post by: Virginia Gentleman on January 11, 2006, 12:31:16 AM: I will try it out with Winchester brass this weekend. I will let you know what happens. My other Cimarron didn't mind Winchester brass, but I have had the best luck with Starline brass.

Post by: Old Doc on January 30, 2012, 08:06:26 PM: For what it's worth, according to the Cimarron folks at the SHOT show, Cimarron is no longer using Turnbull for their authentic bone case-hardened guns. They now use Classic guns.

The examples I've seen of their work is very comparable to Turnbull.

Post by: joec on February 10, 2012, 11:44:42 AM: I also recently bought a Cimarron Model P in 7.5" barrel length and like the finish on it better than the finish on my Uberti Cattleman. It also has a better feel to it than I expected as compared to my Uberti and ASM 1873 replicas. It was a bit more than the Uberti which I wanted but was almost impossible to get at this time and Bud's had the Cimarron so I got it instead. Glad I did now and I've ordered a 45 ACP cylinder for it also as it is cheaper for practice than the 45 Colt.

Doc, did Turnbull do the bluing as well? Looks like his Carbonna Blue.

I ordered this back in late 2005, and was told by Cimarron that Turnbull was doing their USA finish. I ordered the gun with these optional grips directly from Cimarron. They are not Ivory. To my surprise when I opened the box, the optional grips were just in a bag, so I installed and fitted them myself. I am very happy with them. The whole idea behind ordering this gun was the connection to Cimarron, New Mexico, where the Boy Scouts of America have a National Camp called Philmont. The Fleur de Lis grips were also a tie in to Boy Scouts. My son recently obtained his Eagle Award, and this beauty is now going to my son.
