Title: PIETTA EL MALO 2 W/UPDATE
Post by: Coffinmaker on December 03, 2023, 08:42:32 AM

:) All is not Roses  >:(

I desperately wanted these guns for the lower/wider hammer.  Alas, not a good idea.  Muscle memory is killer.  I just can't operate the guns with the lower hammer.  They gotta go.  The "Thunderball" Grip also doesn't fit my hands.  They gotta go.  Oopsies, I bought the wrong version of the guns.  EMF has the same gun with Plow Handles and upright Hammers.  Live and learn.

Mechanically, the guns are really good.  The only real problem has been the fit of the Barrel Bushing which had to be driven out and dressed to fit and turn properly.  The Base pin was also a real groan to get out.  The cross bolt is heavily sprung as is the Ejector.  I scratched the bottom flat of the barrel (girrrrrrrrrr).  And I did whack the last 3/32 off the base pin to eliminate the stoopid safety portion.  Gonna be real fun guns when I finally get to play wid 'em you betcha.

My Dear Coffin
Sorry to hear of the problems.
Are you able to locate replacement hammers and grips?
If you wish to sell off the lowered hammers and thunderball grips shoot me a pm.

Happy holidays,

 :) The Good Perfesser  ;)

Well.  Well well.  As the world turns, it seams I lied.  Bald Face and straight up.  Well, not quite.  Just sorta.  Maybe a little mistaken.  As it twer.

I went perusing and remembered why I initially went for the Cimarron offering.  I desperately wanted that super duper Trix lower wider Hammer.  And I wanted the Octagonal Barrel and it positively HAD TO BE a .45.  So there!

Reviewing the Situation (stolen famous movie line), I went back to EMF to confirm how badly I screwed up.  Well.  It is correct, EMF has the same same gun, Octagonal barrel and all, with Plow Handle grip set, but with Stand Up hammer (I now know I kneed) and (deal breaker) in .357.  Curses, Foiled Again (stolen famous cartoon line).

Now I have considered the future.  I may wish to hawk theses guns to a future care taker and think I should be able to offer them "as original."  Ergo, must retain the non-fitting Grip Set and Unusable Hammer inna box for a future possessor.  I do, however appreciate your kind and generous offer to separate me from the offending pieces.  The grips, with laser engraved Cimarron Logo are quite striking.  Also:

The biggest hinderance to swapping Percussion Gun Grip Sets to a Suppository shooter are the Screws.  The screw head size is some different.  Don't enquire how I happen to know this Fact.

Ah My Dear Coffin

Since we moved last year my shop is still packed and/or still in the prior workshop ( lathe, mill, bandsaws, table saw, drill press, etc)
Thus I thought I might be able to jumpstart my thunderbirdball percussion projects.

Thank you for your reply,  especially with regards to the lack of interchangability!

But at least I can has cheezeburger! My bloodwork numbers indicate I can safely handle one a day with no issues!

Good luck on your efforts

I REALLY wish they'd do one of these octagon guns in .44 Special. But I reckon a .45 will do.
