Title: Buttplate measurements?
Post by: Little Dalton on January 25, 2023, 10:08:05 PM
Thinking of adding the cleaning rod trap to my Cimarron. Been eyeballing the parts from VTI for the trap from the Uberti 1876, and wondering if I can modify and use those, along with modifying the existing buttplate on the '73. Anyone willing to share the opening measurements and location from an original buttplate, along with the location and measurements for the spring retaining screw? Many thanks!

Perhaps this will help, from Arthur Pirkles book on the '66, '73 and '76 which is chock full of detail.  All black and white, no pics, but great info and super inexpensive.  After I got an original '92, I got his book for that, too.

Abilene, thanks for the photos, and I'm sorry for the very slow response! I definitely need to get a copy of that book. Those measurements do help quite a bit, though I didn't see the diameter and exact location of the main hole listed.

Well I couldn't find it the first time, but I did this time.  Rifle (4 piece rod): 7 1/2 to 7 3/4" deep by 5/8 to 3/4" diameter. Midline is 1 9/16 to 1 3/4" below the top.  Carbine (3 piece rod): same size, midline 2 2/32 to 2 1/4" below the top of buttstock.

Do you have any specs for the cleaning rod? What was it made of? Maybe some pictures if possible. Thanks.
