Title: Early Spencer Carbine Serial Number Lookup
Post by: jsmosby on August 11, 2022, 07:39:05 PM
A friend here in Colorado recently purchased what appears to be a complete and original carbine.  The four-digit serial number, 5157, blew me away.  I just didn't expect to see such a low number in addition to two script inspection cartouches on the wrist yet to be ID'd.   Please provide any information you may have that I can pass on to him and "light the fire".  I think he has an interesting piece.  Thank you for your time and effort.  Take care, John

John,

Need to see a photo of the Spencer Carbine, serial # 5157. My SRS books show the serial #s in that range as being issued RIFLES.  Your 5157 may have been modified and rebuilt as a carbine?????  Serial # under the forend should be the same # 5157 . . . check that out.

John, are you a firearms dealer?  You've been interested in Spencer serial #s going back to 2014 ??? ???

Two Flint,

A few moments after logging out after reading your first message I remember meeting a dealer at the Baltimore Antique Gun Show in the early 1990's whose name was the same as mine.  I introduced myself telling him I was glad to finally meet me.  ;D  He gave the "look", finally laughed and the conversation went down from there.  Some things I wish I could forget... ;)
