Title: 2004 Convention
Post by: Will Ketchum on March 03, 2004, 10:33:52 PM
Montana Slim mentioned the convention on another thread.

I thought I should give it it's own thread.

I'll be packing the van tomorrow so we can leave by 8:00 am, Friday.

I'll give a report as to what occurred.

Hope to see some of you there.

Ketchum,
I may be on my way to Stuttgart over the weekend.
I think I'd rather be in Waterloo.
We'll see.

St. George, what's happening in Stuttgart?  Is that Stuttgart in Germany?

Ketchum,
Stuttgart, Germany would be the destination.
Home of SOCEUR and the old Messerschmitt plant that we bombed flat.
I'm trying to find a later flight on Sunday and if I do, I'll drive out to the Convention and back on Saturday.
I'm always packed.
We'll see what luck I have.

Ketchum,
My machinations didn't work for a late departure.
Enjoy the Convention.
Auf Weidersehen...

Well we had a fine convention and the Congress got a lot of work done.  ;D  There will be a report in the next "Shootist" I am sure.

The main points are that crossbolt safeties are now NCOWS legal but the P jr. and the Single Six 32 are not.  As was pointed out those 2 guns are exact replicas of guns that did not exist ;)

As for the annual shoot at Ackley this years.....the good news is that it will still be held ;D.  The only change is that it will be "regional" shoot put on by the Cedar Valley Regulators instead of a NCOWS National shoot.  No one expects much to be different since the CVRs did much of getting the event ready anyway.

All of Lone Gunman's amendments to the bylaws passed which should make the process of approving new guns more stream lined.

The new Working Cowboy passed but the "Originals" class didn't.

Tracy Thorpe was voted to keep the office of Marshal and Lee Goodwin his deputy.  Cherel Trueman was elected Secretary.

We had a good meal at the banquet but as usual the prize awards were kind of drawn out. I am at the point where I just as soon have the numbers already on most of the prizes and you just match your number and pick up your prize.  I did win a box of black powder loaded 44 Russians and I was probably one of the few if not the only one packing a S&W in that caliber ;D.

Next years convention is going to be held in February (the date escapes me) in Council Bluffs Iowa.  This will move it across the state and give those who live in Nebraska and Western Iowa a better chance to attend.

I want to thank all my pards here that helped make the convention another memorable even.

I hope I didn't miss anything too important.   I am certain others will have more to add.

Welcome back and thanks for the update, Will.  Sounds like it was a very productive convention even if you don't count the free bullits.  har har.  Personally, I was glad to hear the working cowboy class was approved.

Howdy Will,

Does this mean that the $1 per shooter fee for range improvements will be waived?  Might be nice if there is a series of regional events.

Glad you had a good time.  Adios,

Howdy Gang,

Thanx fer keepin us updated, Will! It is much appreciated. I couldn't make the convention this year as I expected to be at the academy in Arkansas, and instead was otherwise detained :o .  So I am very glad ya could keep me up to speed on wat got dun! :)

Regarding the decision to go with a Regional at Ackley, instead of the National: I know some of them Pards from the CVR and I'm sure that the Regional will be of the same quality as the National was!! Vern ramrods the SASS State Championship too and he puts together one heck of match, which I know frum personal experiance! 8) I fully expect the management to come up with a National somewhere/somewhen and thisaway we'll have even more great events to attend!!!!! ;D

Wy, I was pretty tired when I posted yesterday.  Thanks for the heads up.

Hext, they didn't mention the range improvement fee.  But I doubt it will be waived since we are trying to raise enough money to buy our own range.
