Title: Source for Cast Bullets
Post by: Dave T on October 12, 2020, 05:42:42 PM
I'm trying to buy soft cast bullets for 50 caliber Sharps cartridges but am having trouble sourcing them. Buffalo Arms offers them but they are out of stock now and their shipping is murderous to the wallet.

I need a soft .512" RN or RNFP weighing 425g to 473g, weights I find for the original loading. Anything between those two numbers would be fine. Oh and of course they have to be lubed with SPG or equivalent.

Any help is appreciated,
Dave

You might try Whyte Leather works  whytelw@comcast.net,

Largest one he lists on his site is 400gr.  Wouldn't hurt to check with him, though.

Yes Sir...that was my drift   :)

Mark does not list the 300 grain Swiss Vetterli he cast for me , or the 262 grain HB Webley I had just received.

Search for seller "Blue Falcon"  on Gunbroker.  He sells a wide variety of BPCR bullets, including some very unusual ones.  I've bought from him before, they are nice bullets.

HI

I use Missouri bullet company most of the time, for handgun, and smaller Sharps bullets.  I ordered 1000 185 Grain LSWC from them August 25th, still haven't gotten them, the website says 8-10 weeks now.

Everyone is hoarding ammo and components before the Yankee Government puts a 100% tax on it.

I'm not hoarding, I just need 500 rounds of .22LR a week until I turn 85, in 30 years....
I've been using close to that much this year too.

 :)  Please don't quote me   ???

My information sources relate, the problem with "Cast Lead Bullets" has nothing to do with government imagined government interference.  THE problem has been the availability of of the major component.  LEAD.  Lead has been in short supply and pricy.  Let us cross our collective fingers this situation resolves soonest.  Frangible bullets do not lend themselves to being "crimped."

Hi

Yes, it seems that the last lead mine here closed years ago, they're mainly harvesting berms now is my understanding.

Harvesting Berms??  Well, ok.  There is some recycling of Berm Lead, but that is just a footnote.  The actual problem is 98% of our lead consumption relies on imports.  The current administration has effected restrictions on imports from the "key Player" country or countries.  THAT is a huge problem.  We'll have to wait and see.
