Anyone out there using the Win 231 with the 38 special 125 gr FP? I am using Acme cast bullets. I can get info for 158 gr SWC cast bullets but not for the 125 cast bullets. Fairly new to reloading, is there a formula for figuring the load of say a Jacketed 125 vs. a cast 125 ? Does that ? make sense, I hope so.

I reload several calibers/cartridges with lead bullets, so the Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook is always the first place I look. I see that they list the 125 gr FN starting at 3.9 gr and 733 fps, which should work fine for general purposes and surely light enough for fast and close competition.

Thank you!!

In addition to the information provided by Roscoe. I now suggest you haul butt to your local purveyor of particular printed parchment to purchase a particularly pertinent copy of "The Lymann Cast Bullet Handbook"

This page:
http://www.reloadammo.com/38loads.htm
lists HP38, which is supposed to be the same as W231, and 125gr lead, with
3.8gr minimum for 876 fps and
4.8gr maximum for 1071 fps
edit: and now that I look, that is exactly what Winchester says for 231. The maker of the powder is always a good place to start. https://wwpowder.com/231/

Duly noted.

You'll like HP-38/231. Excellent choice for this cartridge. That, and Bullseye are probably the powders I reach for most often.
