I tried Vaccination. Didn't work. In fact I had an adverse reaction to the Vaccine. I was forced to treat the adverse reaction with a new treatment. That entailed a new Pietta. I've given up on those Faux medical miracle claims.
Soon as I start suffers the sweats and shakes I immediately hustle to my LGS. Works every time.
There's hope for all of us! I have found that being on a small fixed income has mostly cured my addiction. So as a sevice to those still suffering I will except all your excess money to hold for you. At any time you feel the need for a gun fix you may petition me and a detrimation will be forthcoming. It?s a heavy load to bear and I don't take this responsible lightly so send cash only promptly. I will get set up with a PO box in a nearby town for the safe handling of funds.
I've found that going to the local "toy store" to look does not help.

Question: "How many guns do you own?"
Answer: "More than I need, not all that I want."
How come no one asks Jay Leno how many cars he owns?
Hello, my name is Baltimore Ed and I am a gunoholic. I?ve been ?sober? for 12 days but next week I?ll pick up what I bought the last time I fell off the wagon [a Stevens 520] and hopefully pick up what I bought when I fell off the wagon before then [a Martini Cadet]. I will make the Stevens 520 into a cool trenchgun. But is there a real difference between a habit or a hobby? One sounds negative while the other doesn?t. Both certainly cost money and can have a detrimental or positive impact on one?s life.
In the guitar world they call it "GAS", or Guitar Accumulation Syndrome. The "G" can easily be changed into "Gun" and it fits our world too.
You've got GAS! (smile)

Nothing major to report, but yesterday the Big Brown Truck brought me a wonderful little "Nitro Express Shipping" box full of various loading dies and some bullets, and now I'm awaiting some Fleabay items, among them a more appropriate scope for the AR, and a sling also.
I'm waiting for the U.S.P.O. to bring me a magazine for a Mossberg 342KC that I picked up recently, it will double the cost of what I have into the rifle.

Yesterday, I looked at a Browning Hi-Power.

My LGS has Browning Hi Power @ about $1100 ...nice but :-\
I paid $200.00 for my Belgium made Hi-Power,I wouldn't sell it for under $1500.00, which is my way of saying "It isn't for sale".

Congratulation, It is one of the finest 9mm pistols ever made.
I was at the Toy Store yesterday (Nov. 1 ) and took a real good look at the Browning Hi Power on consignment.
I looked for the S# to try to determine the manufacture date.
The slide has the Browning Utah address line and Made in Belgium , no S # visible on the frame slide or barrel.
I believe it is on the frame below the Trigger Guard.
The # was not visible because the PO has applied an anti-slip tape strip under the TG and the BS.
All indications it is a post 1954 import to the US commercial purchase gun with walnut grip panels.
Pure speculation on my part at this point a mid sixties maybe early 70's manufacture date.... condition is good, but not excellent....
I think the $1100 asking price is at best optimistic infarct whimsical.
EDIT: the tape was removed and lo and behold NO Serial Number, in fact no Serial number anywhere
Had it been removed ? a real possibility :o The consigner dropped the price to $250.00 :o
RED Flag The gun is unlawful to possess, not legal to sell , so no sale no way !
I agree it is over priced. $900 - $1000 is closer.

Got a few more goodies from Midway a few days ago. Seems like their shipping department is competing with Amazon's shipping, got a gunsmith screwdriver set, bore guide kit for cleaning, 2 bikini scope covers and a hammer extension for my Marlin-came in a huge box and the items barely covered the bottom of the box. But UNLIKE Amazon, at least the box was securely taped and had a string of those plastic air bubble packing things that was at least 6 ft long.
Well .... Now that I have my Brandy New 22 year old Handi Rifle, Limited edition, with way cool Laminated stock and fore end .... it's time to replace the wood. Time for a nice nifty custom Mannlicher style stock set.

You did good there Major. Can?t beat free. That?s how I got my garand except it wasn?t for anything comedic though i have been known to tell a bad joke. My hunting bud gave me a ?bag-o-garand? parts and a bbl. I eventually acquired the missing pieces and had a Marine armourer in Jacksonville NC assemble it. Turned out my buds bbl wasn?t any good but the old marine had a take off that was ok. I restocked it with a Boyds winter laminate stock after my retirement. Garands are da bomb.

But at the end of the day after spending your money to sate your hunger you have a nice shiny hunk of blued steel in your little hands to have and to hold till death do you part....Or until you sell it to buy a nicer one. When sass outlawed my most favorite 12 ga pump, the Marlin 24, I bought a 1887 lever, tried my wife?s stoeger and eventually bought a mismatched 97 and then a norinco trench and then a m12. I?m currently waiting on a uberti .45 schofield to arrive along with some correct duds for my Rafe Covington impression. Hi I'm Major and I'm a gunoholic :P
The Garand got a new to it correct Walnut stock ( replaced the circa mid 1950's Birch stock it had }.
I also got a little companion for it in the form of a Colt Commando complete with Colt factory letter
one of 4 revolvers sent to the Hood Rubber Company Div. of BF Goodrich for WWII war time service.
The serial number indicates it was one of the last 400 made.
At the beginning of the First World War in 1914, the Company was called upon to supply trench boots for the French and English armies. The pressure cured rubber boots proved to be especially adaptable for the wet and muddy environment of trench warfare. During the Second World War, it was enlisted by the United States Armed Forces to manufacture many types of rubber products, especially military boots for both the Pacific and European theaters.
Howdy Major,
IMHO your Garand looks 100% better with the Walnut stock.
Last time I fired a M-1 Garand was in 1959 in boot camp at Fort Leonard Wood.
Thank you John.... I agree the birch stock was not correct for the circa 1944 Springfield Armory action... birch was much later about 1955-60.
I'm impressed with Dupage Trading Co.s stock, they supply stocks to the CPM for their Service Grade + rebuilds...
The stock was only $130 shipped - fit & finish was perfect . I suggest checking out Dupage they have Krag - M1 carbine parts from time to time.

My LGS has one on consignment a bit out of my confort zone pricewise though
The NEW Colt Python is flying off the shelves even here in Kanuckistan. Affordable and shootable.
I just acquired a unique "Canada ONLY" S&W Performance Centre 6 shot .357 with 5" barrel. Similar to the 686 SSR but with a "Raptor" engraved on the frame and "Rappy" on the barrel.
Can't find out anything as to who ordered the run and it's not a catalog item.
Did I need it? No, but I couldn't resist it at the price, well under the other Performance Centre models. Not competitive for IPSC revolver class where the majority are moonclipped 7-8 shots guns.

Hey There Major Two,
;D Atz a really really nice Tooth Pic :D At a point in the 20th Century, there was great debate over Bayonets. Not for the use or the Fear Factor. Length. It was pointed out to the ruling military junta, the human body is only about 10inches thick. Why were we (the military) toting around a 2 foot Bayonet?? And so with infinite wisdom, those gorgeous, elegant, two foot Bayonets went away. Somehow, I feel we've suffered a great loss ::)
:o Oh, really nice Smelly too ;D
The officers carried pistols and swords while the bayonet is the common riflemans sword. There is certainly a cruel elegance to the long bayonet mounted on a rifle. It just looks more lethal than a short one does.
My understanding is in the open the advantage was with guy that had the reach in a bayonet duel.
Mausers Gewehr 98 OAL with its short bayonet matched the longer 05 & 07 US on the M17 & 03's
The Japanese Arisaka with its bayonet had a greater reach....

But Perfesser,
Let us not forget the effectiveness of a concentrated Bayonet Charge against .... (gasp) MACHINE GUNS !!!!
Big long pointy thing is hard to maneuver inna Trench. Some snug is. Practical may not be.
There?s a scene where the Brits are attacking the bridge at Remagen in A Bridge Too Far and the officer blows his whistle to start the assault. One of the defending german soldiers asks what that was and his officer replies ?fools courage?. Hanging a bayonet on your rifle and running towards Maxim guns, same thing.
A favourite tool of WWI Canadian Shock Troops for trench raids was a spade with a sharpened edge.
In the movie "The Light Horse" you see Australian Mounted Infantry using their long Lee-Enfield bayonets as swords.

"Light Horse" were mounted infantry. Armed with rifles, not carbines, and no sword. The real attack the movie portrays was a tactical opportunity too good to miss. They drew their bayonets and charged. BTW; there is a photo of the charge, but it MIGHT HAVE BEEN a recreation done later when it was realized what a momentous event had just occurred.
http://www.lighthorse.org.au/the-controversial-photo-of-beersheba/
P.S: Read the link!
The SMLE (Short Model Lee-Enfield or the more colloquial "Smellie") replaced all carbines in the British Army upon it's adoption. It was deemed sufficiently short enough for mounted use.
The Smellie was likely one of the best, if not the best bolt action military rifle ever. The Mauser '98 a close second but for it's 5 rd magazine capacity.
The Lighthorsemen charge at Beersheba still gives me goosebumps, an amazing piece of film footage.
Theyre under the guns!.
If I recall, the men and horses were on their last legs due to water deprivation.
Had the attack failed, the surviving horses would likely have been put down.
That was the punchline to the attack, succeed and save the wells or die. A man can do a lot when his back is against the wall. Also the belief by the Turks that the Lighthorse would at some point dismount and fight as infantry so they were not prepared for the cavalry charge. But this is probably Hollywood bs. Makes for a good story though and very exciting film footage.

I thought it was Short Magazine Lee Enfield ??? ???
It is .... it does not mean short magazine .... Short, Magazine lee Enfield as the earlier rifle was a long Lee or MLE
The correct nomenclature is: Short, Magazine Lee-Enfield, Mk. I. Thereafter there were several Mks, culminating with the Mk. VI.
The most common Mk. used in WWI was the SMLE, Mk III* which eliminated the long range dial sights and and the magazine cut-off.
The so-called Long Lee-Enfield was officially: the Lee-Enfield Magazine Rifle, Mk I, culminating with the Mk. I*.

Picked up an old model Ruger Vaquero SS .357 at the local toy store, yesterday.

Good on you
Looked at a Spanish Mauser at the LGS on consignment chambered in 7.62?51mm
The price wasn't bad ....
Not sure I'm a player but I'm some interested in studying it some more.
M-2, I've got a 7.62 Spanish Mauser, actually a Guardia Civil carbine. Nice little rifle, but there's lots of argument on the net about if those converted '93 Mausers are good to go with .308 or mil-spec 7.62. I've shot mine a little with commercial .308, and it's a bit more "energetic" than I like, so I download my reloads for it.

M-2, I doubt there'd be any "sudden" problems from the higher pressure .308 rounds, more likely some accelerated wear. Mine is in carbine form, barrel shortened and bolt turned down. I noticed with full power loads, bolt lift wasn't as easy as it should be, the bent bolt seems to reduce leverage. Not a problem with lead loads, or loaded down jacketed. Took some experimenting with lead, the throat on mine is pretty tight. Still using the same bullet I use in the Krag, but seated a bit deeper than I would like. The other two molds I have are for .".31" caliber bores, like .303, 7.65 Argentine, 7.62X54, etc, and the forward part of the bullet is too large.
Does this one still have the crest on it? Mine was apparently re-arsenaled after the civil war there, and all the markings of the former regime removed.
To my thinking a collection of anything has a common connection, a collection of Colt Woodsmans, 1965 Ford Mustangs or Webley service revolvers while a bunch is a grouping of one or two ofs with no real commonality. Your collection can be as broad or as narrow of a focus as you want. I put together a collection of 1966 Baltimore Oriole baseball cards for my wife some years ago as she was a big fan and had met them in her youth, built the case too. The only baseball cards that I?ve ever collected. She was also a cat person but I?ve always prefurrrrd the wooden ones. They don?t shed.
PE
The crest is this one , the bolt & receiver numbers match
Friend came over with rifles to sell. I ended up buying a 1893 Marlin in .38-55 made in 1904 and a sporterized Krag. I'll end up re-militerizing the Krag.

Haggle was successful ;D
I, at one time, would buy anything that I thought was cheap, and might be able to turn around and sell at a profit. Even though that profit may be small.
That is until I found something that I really liked and wanted. And the funds were not there to get it because of the trash/garbage I had been buying, and the area where I was at, didn't have any want for the "stuff" I had to offer.
At that time I was very interested in ACW, cartridge conversions that developed shortly after the War. I kind of felt like I was cutting myself off from the real goodies I was wanting for myself.
At that point, I started becoming very particular about what I wanted and would spend y money on.
My best to all off you, and to what you want.
Blair
I thought about it some, and I can honestly say I have no regrets.
I never felt I cut myself off from any of the real goodies I wanted....
I'm not a curator , I feel I'm more the current steward , I buy to shoot the history.
I have traded up or pehaps sold as my interest may have changed ...I'm not in the sport/hobby/chase/whatever to flip ( common phase today ) I'm not a dealer.
but no regreats and I have not denied myself
EDIT: apparently, I am! as I was hired as one at the Military Museum in late Sept. 2021
though I stand by my statement as to my personal pieces.
I don?t think I?ve ever bought anything with the express purpose of reselling it. However I did buy a nickled .32 H&R Bicycle Revolver in the box for what I thought was a real good price thinking it would be a cool cas accessory but I wound up selling it at the Md Antique Arms Show and doubled my money. Bought a British Lion .450 bulldog revolver that got sold to Tinker Pierce for a small profit. I buy a gun because I like the gun or I have a project in mind not to roll it over.
Over the 50+ years I've been a shooter and gun owner I've mastered the art of loosing money on almost every gun purchase ever made. I didn't often by rare or collectable firearms, just ones that interested me. Every single one was taken to the range and fired, and in most cases a hand load was worked up for them (rifle and handgun).
The kiss of death was lack of use. I don't believe in safe queens. If I found I hadn't shot a gun in two years or so it was up for sale or trade, and most often used as a down payment on the next thing that caught my eye. I consoled myself with the idea that I either got some use out of it which I was willing to pay for, or the loss was the price of finding out it wasn't the model or caliber for me.
In my dotage I find the desire to buy more guns is fading. What I really long for is the ability (physically) to shoot more than I am currently capable of managing. All those cliches about getting old are true. It ain't for sissies and they ain't the golden years. Still I'm grateful for all I have and all the memories. Just thought it would keep going longer than this. (smile)
Dave
I must have missed the last meeting. My sponsor also didn't call me to remind. Woe is me. Fore I have fallen. Again. Whilst perusing the "short clips" from Shot show, I noticed in the background (Behind Alcamista) a wall of Shotguns on display. I immediately started to salivate.
I am weak. Really weak. I have an affinity for Hammer Double Shotguns. My resistance level is near nil. No, let me be Frank .... it (my resistance) is NIL. I almost immediately found myself dialing up EMF to ask about that wall of 1878 Replicants. There was one in particular that just melted my resolve away. Dark Walnut, Checkered Wrist and Forearm and a Nickel'd receiver. Oh my. PURE GOTTAHAVEIUM. As turned, I was the first to ask about acquiring one of the "Show Guns."
I am now the owner of that "one off" special replica 1878.
I AM A GUNAHOLIC AND I HAVE FALLEN (giggle giggle)
My first cas sg was a cut down Remington Model 1889 hammer. Not very competitive with its super duper he man mainsprings. Still got it. The forearm was missing so I had to build one.
We need picture, how are we supposed to live vicariously through Y'all without pictures?
The new to me Mauser just asked/begged for bayonet
This Spanish bayonet was made by the Artilleria Fabrica de Toledo for the 7mm Mauser rifle. These bayonets were produced prior to and used during WW1 and the Spanish Civil War.
The 24.7cm single edged blade has a single fuller on each side and is in good condition with areas of mild age-related tarnish and red surface rust.
.The ricasso is stamped ?P. R. 8? over ?4245? and the obverse ricasso retains the manufacturer?s logo panel although the logo has been polished out.
The wooden grip scales are in good condition as is the mild age-related tarnish steel pommel. The press stud locking mechanism works perfectly.
I have used Evaporust to arrest the active red rust blossoms which dissolved 95%.
What remains is a few spots of black inert oxidation Which should polish out. Minor pits remain on the guard. I will not remove any metal, just clean and allow the 100 years of character to remain.
The wood is in very good condition with some rust staining (black stains) this has mostly lifted with Evaporust.
I am preserving the bayonet, not refinishing it cleaned up nicely.
You got one of those Napoleonic Guardia Civil hats to wear while shooting it? ;)

I'm just as guilty as y'all. I have some 32 rifles and two pistols so far. Mostly limited edition newer, vintage, antique and odd-ball air rifles. But a few vintage powder burners as well. It's been a while, been spending most of my available gun funds on ammo, components, etc. Other home projects, too. But last week I just threw out a couple of bids on Fun Broker, and won both! One was for a second model S&W .38 break top (I'll blame Books O'Tool for reminding me I wanted one) And the other a Mauser 1871/84 rifle. I could blame that one on Whiskey Double for having one at the Muster, but really I remember reading a gun magazine write up on them many years ago, back when OWS was selling them. Always wanted one, but never managed to make it happen. They're still not here yet, though. The Smith looks to have been re-finished, not really a collector. But it's shiny! Almost a bar Bar-B-Q pistol, nickle plated with a gold hammer and trigger guard. Mauser is a bit rougher, and includes a re-worked Chasspot bayonet. Germans did that with captures from the Franco-Prussian war, but seller says he did this one himself.
Photo when they arrive...pretty please :)

Quote from: Major 2 on May 23, 2020, 09:20:09 PMI figure , I'm due one vice otherwise there is only the ROCK I would live under.
Major,
I live under a rock. No smartphone. No Wifi (or how ever you spell it). And no desire to go there.
And still the lure of yet another USFA reached under my slab of protection and hooked me. Last Wednesday I took delivery of a 5-1/2" USFA Gunslinger (did I mention I hate that name) chambered for the venerable 45 Colt cartridge. It's only detraction is it doesn't have the black powder frame which I greatly prefer. Instead it makes due with the spring loaded, cross-wise cylinder pin retainer. When I get around to pictures I'll post them in the USFA section here.
My question is: how do you fall off a wagon...from under a rock? (smiley face goes here)
Dave
I said " otherwise there is only the ROCK I would live under.
Occasional forays are observed ....then said wagon is employed slippery as it may be ;D
Once more I fell victim, become detached from my wagon and plummeted to the ground.
I have been looking for a British service revolver from WW II ...I've bid on a a few only to see them enter the stratosphere.
Pretty pleased with this one, bought it over the last weekend it arrive yesterday
Enfield No. 2 Mk I** no import marks or FTR ... Made in 1945
Maj, while you were getting all British Empire on us that wagon you guys keep talking about rand over my rock. I found a Miroku Winchester '73 I craved very much and the payment is on the way to the seller. After the USFA I really didn't mean to do that. Not sure what happened (other than I'm going broke).
Gotta go now and get back under the rock. I see another wagon coming. (smile)
Dave
Dam wagons anyway ! :)
I don't think that wagon has any sideboards. And the bed seems a bit greasy. We all keep slipping off, especially when it runs over one of Dave T's rocks. I thought I was safe when PSA sold out their Carcano 91-24 TS carbines. Then I got another one of their E-mails. This time it was M-91 TS carbines. Original made carbines, not arsenal cut down rifles. One is on it's way to My FFL as we type.
Dam greasy , sideboard-less wagons and rocky trails anyway !
Looked hard at a few things, put in a few halfhearted bids but haven't really jumped yet. Starting a new '03 build from the remains of another '03 build. I have everything except a upper band and a handguard. In two weeks the Raleigh Military show happens so I'm thinking that I'll try to attend. A whole lot less crowded than the big Raleigh show. Hoping that I can sell my '03 target stuff there to someone building a target '03.
I made a trade and added this to my modest collection :D
Webley Mark VI Manufactured and entered service 1916
We want a range report when you get your ammo put together, Major Deux. Looks like Dan Wesson wasn't the first DA revolver to have the latch on the crane at the front of the cylinder.
Also, same problem as the early Colt Army DA's-cylinder rotates counter clockwise, so the pressure from the hand is pushing the crane out, away from the frame, instead of toward it like the later ones. My 1892 has this problem, so at the instant the hammer falls, sure it locks up tight-but with the cylinder mis-aligned enough that it spits lead badly out the left side.

Major, if no one else likes that, I am gonna use it for rounds for mine! Thank you Sir!
My pleasure :)
The bullets I ordered from Springfield Slim arrived ... 2 days USPS...
Waiting on my Auto Rim Shells and shell holders from Graf's & Son...their shipping is always a bit lagging behind.
Update on my Webley adventure :)
It took 12 days for Graf's to get the Starline brass shipped ::), and 4 days to arrive after that , but it did arrive.
( an observation , not really a complaint , but additional brass is in route from Buffalo Arms and will arrive within the first week )
In the mean time my Chronograph arrived and I set about to work up my load...
I have also purchased Bear Creek Supply .454 260 grain hollow base Webley bullets (see photos) BTW 2 days shipping ;D
I'm impressed with the consistency and quality of Bear Creek's product ( moly coated bullets )
They are .80 shorter than Springfield Slim cast bullets , set at the same depth it makes the OAL of the final bullet .80 shorter
than the SS bullet when it is crimped at original .455 cartridge OAL
Note: the point of crimp <---- in 3rd & 4th. photos However the shape is blunter
Powder is the same weight of Trail Boss
Slims bullets chronograph average - 652 FPS
The Bear Creek - 626 FPS ( which I allude to the slicker moly coat )
Springfield Slim also ships fast ...2 days ( I also like the historic shape of his bullets )
FYI SS bullets are .452 @ 262 grains ( recovered bullets show they bump to .454 and engage rifling nicely )
* all shots at 7 yards with the chrono at 10ft out from the muzzle
I just sold my last .455, a well preserved MK VI made by Enfield in 1924. Only 4000 made before the Brits went to the .38 S&W cartridge.
It shot miserably with 265 HB Webley bullets cast from an RCBS mould, the bullets tumbling. It shot well with was the 230 gr RN for the .45 ACP sized .452.
Maybe the brits wanted the bullets to tumble to increase the stopping power of the weak .455 load.

Good choice for an edc Slim. I waffle between my scandium J frame and a lightweight Colt .380 Mustang. Had to use the Mustang this week to dispose of a water moccasin that was too close where I was pulling up small saplings from the property that I bought last year. I don't play around with moccasins, they can be aggressive. No desire to visit the er. The first snake I've seen on the property so next time I go out there I'll have one of my Woodsmans, .22s and a lot cheaper than Critical Defense .380s. A boy that I worked with was fishing in his john boat and was close to the bank when a moccasin dropped off a overhanging limb into the boat. He pulled his .38 and 6 rds later the snake was dead, he had 6 holes in the aluminum boat and he was hauling butt back to the dock. He cut up a couple of branches to make temporary plugs.

Not to sure , it belongs to a friend of my wife, it was her late husband's.( he passed 14 months ago)

EDIT update offer accepted, in re-searching the Serial number turns out it is an early post-WW II .38 Military & Police. . now mine :D
Years ago, I bought an early model 10 just because I didn't have a DA revolver. It is one of my favorite handguns now, it is sized just right.
I should own up to two acquisitions last month.
One was a give me , a friend offered me his Mosin Nagant, he is moving and did not want to keep it.
I said sure, I'd hold it for him , he said no just take it . So it is hanging on my Loading room wall.
I may one day get around to loading for and shooting it. Though it came with 3-4 packages of surplus ammo, recoil is mean and I don't enjoy shooting the stuff. Bullets I have, I'd need brass and a set of dies :-\
The other I treasure, it was the last trade with my late best friend just days before he passed . :(
MAB PA 15 Controls are Browning Hi-power like, in fact FN Herstal owned MAB
:) Hello . . I'm Coffinmaker and I'm a Gunoholic ;)
Alas, my fall from Grace (Who's Grace??) has been thwarted. I mad the call to place the order. Specified my Specifics, only to be denied. Seems purveyor of said object of my Par Amore is deliberately ignoring their web site. Whilst the Object(s) of my lust were/are listed as "In Stock" . . . Not So Much. Not even on the boat. Not even a bloated promise of "when."
Should I be Happy or Sad?? I still harbor lustful thoughts and desire.

You need to call your sponsor, is her name Grace?
Grace got me too. Picked up an Uberti Open Top Army in .45Colt, am loving the Army grip, It fits my XXL paw really well. Also, found an old friend, who had been traded was back at the LGS, a Sig P220 in .45 ACP, an older West German one. So they are both back home now.

M2, Where did you get your cool Marvin the Martian sign? My son is also a Marvin though he's an earthling, afaik, I've given him numerous Marvin the Martian items over the years. I just looked around the intranet without seeing a sign like that. Inquiring minds want to know. I also would like a broader shot of your lair, looks interesting. Ed
I recall it a Christmas gift, from my wife ...I think ....probably Disney Village or Universal Studios :-\
That may have been Universal. Buggs and Marvin were however, parented by Warner Bros. Studios.
That sign however, is made from pure Gottahaveium, which is now Unobtainium. That sign is just SOOOOO KOOOOOL
Stay Save Out There
I just asked if she remembered , it was years ago, she said maybe Pottery Barn :-\
I have a metal Pony Express sign also a wood 2nd Amendment on another wall in the reloading room.
Here's a few wall items from my 'office'. Sad thing is I don't have a hammerless....yet.
Both subject are to my liking ...the Colt and Elvira, Queen of Darkness @ 70 she is still HOT
So much of the fun and experience of acquiring an older firearm is the research of the history and the provenance of that piece.
I often think to myself or read someone's comment " if IT could only talk ! "
The back stories are as interesting to me as the piece itself and to be the current steward is my privilege.
So far I have discovered this S&W K-frame is an early post-WW II .38 Military & Police with date of manufacture late 1946.

Yours's looks equally interesting
Latest acquisition.
On the right correct small frame Remington Navy. Early Uberti manufacture(1971) for Lyman.
Both Remingtons in pic are .36 cal. Navy, but since the mid-90's Uberti has used the large frame for both the .36 and .44 calibers.

I've had this little Beretta Cheetah for a while now, I've grown quite fond of it .
Double stack 12 round magazine, and the OEM Grips made it something of a fat 2x2 feeling grip...
I put a set of LOK G10 Grips on it back in December and it transformed the handling.
How easy to rack the slide? I have a double stack Bersa that is murder to rack.
I cock it first, so as not to have to overcome the hammer spring, then its not bad
Sorry you're off the wagon again, gotta take those meds everyday and stay away from those enablers. Nice pistole Major2 but wrong caliber.
Yeah but easy to load for...so
Up-date probably going to pass on the FN P35
Older Gent is motivated but, thinks in the stratosphere value wise ::)
Claims it was brought back by his Father , so there is, sentimental on top of true value...
then there is the Re-finish , so collector value is compromised...
Its a nice shooter grade , but not at the number$ he thinks he like to get...
:) Maj 2 ;)
"Value" is a strange term. Oft misused. Not being a collector of anything, to me they are all "shooters." It never ceases to amaze, the "Value" ascribed to some items that are nothing more than just another "old gun."
There was a time 98K Mausers, Waffen marked, were the lofty sum of 45 Bucks. While I was stationed in Germany, a load of Waffen marked P35s became available in the rod and Gun Clubs. $75 Bucks. While the finish was not pristine, the mechanicals were as "unfired" in most cases. We found out we couldn't ship them back because of a Lanyard Ring as part of the frame. I sold mine for 90 Buck and was sorry to see it go. Oh Boo Hiss.
It is also a shame to see the number of the unwashed masses that don't understand the damage when they innocently have true antiques "refinished."
People are Still Hazardous to yer Health
I have oft said, "I'm a shooter not a curator"
Its cool to have a example or specimen of a particular historic piece to shoot , not to leave to some future wag to profit off of...
This fellow is asking an internet surfed numbers + sentimental stratospheric imagined "hope chest" number....
when & only "if" he comes down to earth , will he sell it .... my offer stands as long as I have the "ducks"
Since Browning is no longer making the HiPower, the prices have gone up considerably, If it was under $1000.00 it is a fair price.
Major, he's @ some north of 2 G's... ::)
If it was in original finish , he'd be in the ballpark, for @'s matching mid-1943 FN P36 with all it Waffen eagles & stampings.
Maybe even more, course I did not see it before it was defiled :(
Sadly., he did not know better....he spent a few hundred to loose a grand or more. :o
Unfortunate but you don't know what you don't know.
I agree his asking price is ludicrous for what is now a shooter grade pistol.
Well, we moved in December and I am finally getting the last of the garage finished up. Before we moved I had all the parts for a new AR15 build, but once we had moved could not find the lower! Finally got fed up looking so went and picked up one. Went to get all the stuff together....and, yup....found the lower.

Well, now you just have to get another upper, and other parts. But since it's an AR, you can make it nothing like the first one.

That is one of Murphy's general laws.
Well, I bought these a couple months ago but just got around getting the pumps out for a pic. I doubled my 1897 shotgun collection in about 4 days, from 2 to 4. I had a Cimarron gun from when they first bought out TTN, and a 30" full choke solid frame Winchester that I picked up a couple years ago. So, an email goes out to all the members of one of the larger CAS clubs around here stating that a certain dealer was having health problems and wanting to get out of the business and there was an attachment with a bunch of modern guns listed (he started out his pricing at 5% above his cost), but the email said that he also had a NIB IAC '97 for $300. I called him immediately and said I'd take it. A few days later when I went to do the deal I see it is a CB prefix, which is the very best of the Chinchesters. Very smooth! I don't think he knew the value of that one, even though he's a dealer. Anyway, it got shot for the very first time in the Wild Bunch side match at Comancheria Days, and I've done another 4 or 5 cowboy matches with it just to play with it, though I'm more of a SxS guy. Well, a pard from another club was set up at Comancheria Days selling some stuff, and I bought a takedown '97 made in 1911 from him for $400. It has been refinished at some point and is in great shape except for one large scratch on the barrel, plus the takedown sleeve (or whatever it's called) had gouge marks on it like somebody used channel locks on it. I know people talk about needing spares when you shoot a '97. I think I'm set with that for a while. :)
I lined them up by barrel length for the photo. 1911/12 30" on left, then 24" takedown also from 1911, then the 20" "TTN" (Cimarron / Polytech), then on the right the new 20" IAC Cowboy '97.
Nice collection Abilene, nothing wrong in having a spare spare. I understand that in order to get it to run right you operate a '97 like your mad at it but you must be awfully hard on your '97s if you need 3 backups! I only have 2, a misnumbered Winchester and a norinco trench. I am able to use Marlins so my primary [club match] sg is a Model 24 12 ga though yesterday I shot a Model 30 in 20 gauge. Shoots like a rifle.

That said, that leaves only my FFL's LGS and or face to face deals.
That said, I was perusing Cabela's Gun Library, just on a lark, just window shopping.
I have short list of guns I'd like to have... low and behold on page 39 (out of 46 ) in the Center Fire handguns listings
A S&W Model 1917 in very nice condition I figure it sold , but a call @ 10AM this morning to the Omaha Cabela's showed it was available.
Several inquiries but no cash holds....
I used my Cabela bucks , and now it is mine
All numbers match and the grips are numbered to it as well , finish is 85% ,ordnance bomb acceptance mark
45 ACP or Auto Rim , which I already load
Traded for a Springfield Trapdoor yesterday. Cut down but the bore looks pretty good.
Amazingly, I found a Lee Loader for 45-70 and 80 once fired cases! A local fellow set me up with 200 primers. Now I just have to get some black powder and boolits! Even found out that Dixie Gun Works has a proper front sight for this cut down rifle.
I'd suggest Springfield Slim for your bullets http://www.whyteleatherworks.com/BigLube.html

The year of manufacture for serial number 72xxx is 1918.
All numbers match including the grips,
Cyl, butt and barrel under the extractor
Bluing is original, nice case color remains on Hammer & trigger; the Ordnance Bomb remains. Great lockup and timing
No pitting, bore is bright, I will give it a good detail cleaning and shoot it. ;D
A nickel plated S&W model 36 followed me home from the "toy" store today. I was made between 1962 and 1966.
Slim
Nice , like this one ?
Mine has a flat latch and round butt.

Mine was made in 1982 , I happened into a LGS ( about 11 years ago now ) I had never been in before ..
I was on my lunch hour, and the display counters were mostly bare... I was told the Orlando Gun Show was that weekend
and most of the stock was being shown.
This one was on consignment, and followed me home. I carried it exclusively CCW until I purchased a SIG 365 about 2 years ago.
Now it resides as my night stand piece , and on occasion it may see a road trip.

Nickel,
I did have a Model 60- 2-1/4" heavy barrel (SS) with a Hillary hole lock , circa 2002 , but it was noticeably heavier.
with Butt ugly Rubber recoil grips
I was not into it much cost wise, bought used, ( I don't think I ever even shot it )
and had chance to trade up for a Webley VI , which I wanted..

BTW, one of the grip panels is missing the disk in the inside. Does anyone know where i can get a replacement?
Slim
I see them on eBay , but they are proud of them @ $28 a pair
OEM Magna grips are also getting pricy
Nice Mod 36 :)
I can buy a set of replacement grip panels for $60 from Altamont. ::)
Slim
The proper grips would be checkered, Round butt Magnas with the diamond around the grip screw, the disc should be blued steel,S&W stopped using the discs sometime in the early 2000's If memory serves me.Best bet would be to find a set of badly worn or damaged grips at a gun show and steal the disc from that.
+ 1 to the good Major , I have sold a few OEM grips sets on eBay ( both J & K frame )
I'll inquire on the http://smith-wessonforum.com/forum.php
The grip panels are serialed to the gun.

update: glad that worked out :)
I have taken the new to me 103 year old Smith M1917 for an outing at my humble home gallery.
I set up my Chrono to test of my home rolled rounds.
I have some Evil Roy Powder Inc. made 45 APC I got several years ago, I do not know what the powder or charge is
They are cast 230 grain bullets , beyond that a mystery... @ 10 yards I was shooting 3.5 inch a bit right of POA.
My loading was more to my likening out of the revolver I used SNS hi-tech coated 230 grain bullets ( thanks to John Saffern who gave them to me :) )
I started with 4.2 grains of Titegroup which shot @ 719 FPS and consistent + or - 7 FPS
I also noticed my group spread was tighter @ 2.5
I have worked up tp 4.4 grains TG zipping along @ 780 FPS but groups opened some ( maybe just me :-\ )
I have not tried my loads in any of my 1911's yet , but I have used the Evil Roy stuff in my Cimarron and it was acceptable at
SASS wild bunch target range...Wild Bunch shoots went belly up in my area.
I'm hoping to attend a *BAMM match* , I think the M1917 will be my go to . ( however my 1911 will be along too)
*BANN Match* would be road trip to NC hooking up with Baltimore Ed's shooting bunch ...if all goes well, and the creek don't rise
Like shooting tiny lipsticks....
:) Aw Crapola ;)
The Perfesser beat me to it. When folks first started showing up with "Red" bullets I was want to chide them about "Shooting Lipsticks." Now, however, I find myself shooting lipsticks as they are/were all I could find. With APP, Lipstick is just fine.

Hello, my name is Kent and I'm a gunaholic.
That must be because at a garage sale I was offered a 30-06 that I don't need but bought anyways. It's a standard Winchester model 70 made in 1947 with a Pachmyer tip over scope base. The gun is in a used but well cared for condition. A solvent socked patch came out with no color and every piece is as clean as can be. Stock has small dings and a few light scratches but at 74 years old is still ready to hunt!

:) Hey Kent ;)
We hear and understand. After all I was also made in 1947 and I couldn't hun't if I tried. Really nice Rifle.
Well, it don't go BANG, just PFFT! But couldn't resist this one, a Barra 1866 BB gun. Neat little gun, can't help grinnin' as I play with it.
Eat up with it ...again , there is no cure :)
This one followed me home , the PO had opted to trade it for a Hellcat (great gun but in this case in my opinion he traded down )
It was as NIB and comes with 6 mags ;D ( 3 extra over OEM packaging )
Springfield Armory EMP 9MM , I like the 1911 platform and was looking for an enhanced model to add to my armory which includes , My Ithaca , Springfield Armory Milspec and my Cimarron (photo) ....
I was about to purchase a new Rock Island Armory 1911-A1 FS Tactical .45 ACP, when this was consigned at my LGS.
PO was asking more for it than the posted retail on the Rock Island ( totally understandable )
I made a offer and he accepted . :)
So I got the Springfield Armory instead
EDIT Made this holster for it for trail work
I have shot it and it is a sweet shooter :)
Oh guys, forgive me for I have fallen from the wagon again. Her beauty beguiled me! A CZ Hammer Classic Coach Gun arrived today

Well, my 3 1/2 .45 Colt Schofield arrived today. Really nice balance, can't wait to get it to the range.
Looking forward to the photos :)
Oh Lordy, please help me restrain myself, a trip to my Friendly LGS has me in withdrawals :-X
Ted has a bunch of consigned goodies (must be the season, Christmas and such, cash needed ETC.
Must restrain myself uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ! ::)
It's so hard to hold back, then I think WHY AM I HOLDING BACK, I HAVE THE MONEY JUST BUY THE DARN THING!!! ::) ;D
OK here is my take on your thought.......
So, I'm in the LGS about 2 months or so ago, and see a Springfield 911 NIB, I handled it, and what cool little CCW
Basically, a 9MM version of the Colt Maverick (CM's are 380, I don't care for the .380).
But I procrastinated, and it sold out from under my hesitation, then a week or so later, I looked at a Rock Island enhanced Commander 1911.
again, I hemmed & hawed ....and it too was quickly snapped up....
So, I figured was not meant to be..... But what did avail itself, (actually it was there, just priced outreach)
was a very nice Springfield EMP .... with the others sold, I though what the heck, I made a lowball offer, hoping maybe the PO would counteroffer, well he didn't ...HE TOOK the offer :o
So, I figure all was preordained, and I got this, sometimes the later bird does get the prize ;D
BTB I made this holster for it
:) Oh NO, Mr. Bill ;)

Good for you padawan, for the Force is strong. 'Do or do not, there is no try.'
Cowboy interest guns trickle into the frendly LGS on consignment from time to time.
They'll let me know, also the unusual, and or Milserp's
They have an 1888 Springfield Rifle w/ the ramrod bayonet, oddly it has a Spencer butt plate complete with the thumb piece
fused in place. Oblivious incorrect replacement at some time ???
They also have pretty nice MAS-49. rechambered in 308.
The 1997 Winchester is a shooter grade, wood nicely refinished, 12 gauge the barrel has been cut, asking $600
The Uberti is in 45 Colt remarkably clean they want $1000 :P
I have no dog in the fight.... I would bet there is haggle room on both
Here is the # (407) 891-9136
Like your '66 but have a '66 musket so I'm set. Thinking that 2022 would be a good year to finish up projects and not buy any new toys. Have at least 7 gun related irons in the fire plus house and deck reprs. And my AS to rebuild.
Not mine, I haven' had a 66 in a long time, Henry's and 73's yes, but the 66 (a 38 special) was sold in about 1988.
I passed on this one
I have heard that those MAS 49's converted to .308 cave a pretty spotty reputation for reliability. May depend on who did the conversion work.
PE -(MAS 49) I could not say who or when the conversion was dome.
It wasn't really on my radar of interest, one of the LGS partners was buying it anyway.
The 'ol Debbel is work'n' overtime on my gun affliction.
Got called to the LGS to look at "something" in a collection just brought in, always chancy :-\
It was an 1878 Martini Henry, not a bad shooter grade, refinished but not over done cartouche's still present, and a good bore....
Same guy brought in a Mauser K98, also shooter grade, importers marked, again wood refinished good rifling w/ Bayonet...
a Mk4 Enfield w/ bayonet.
A Swiss SCHMIDT RUBIN K31 Rifle also with Bayonet
I liked the Mauser but "nofundums "
He had a original 1927 Winchester 1890 Pump.... in very good cond. I'd like that TOO, sadly same condition 0 funds
well not quite, but not enough either ::)

In retrospect, the Ammo & component shortage made 45 ACP unobtanium price wise as well.... :-\
Oh ! I forgot to mention the 2" Colt , I had to pass the old adequate funds dilemma :-\
Well, yesterday was in the LGS and saw a beautiful little Henry Single Shot in .45-70. Went back up today and it was even prettier than I remembered with GORGEOUS walnut stock. Anyway it came home with me.
Nice wood.... Ohh ! :o
Oh crud, I did it again....
I had sworn off of "mud puppies" until today. Found a little S&W Double Action in .38 S&W that has been SO neglected I had to bring it home. It is definitely a homely little beast, lots of surface rust and the muzzle end of the barrel may need to be bobbed from 4" to 3" due to some apparent damage to the bore. It's gonna get a bath in mineral spirits once i get the grips off it. It really is a pitiful little beast. Gonna need some serious TLC before I load up some BP rounds for it.
MM MM MMM ! resistance is futile....
Have you tried boiling to convert red rust to black?
Boiling in distilled water or captured rain water will convert the red rust(ferrous oxide) to black rust(ferro-ferric oxide)and will soften the rust making it easy to remove with brass wool or a soft brass wire brush. This is the same process used in rust bluing. Repeated rustings and boilings might be necessary to achieve a dark color. Ordinary potable water might not give satisfactory results depending on the mineral content.
Here's a couple of pics of the Mud Puppy.
Neet old piece, when was it made BP or post BP era?
Hoping the guys at S&W Forum can get me an answer for that! At least I already have dies for it.
I'm also on that forum, I'll be looking :)..... the Serial # will tell the tale
These two found a home this past weekend.
Fell off the wagon did ya :) welcome back to the fold
Okay, I did it again. I traded for these expecting to use them for trade fodder, but the triggers are just gorgeous, so they are joining the herd. A pair of matching Uberti El Patrons in 45 Colt.
Very nice :)

A good trade,
made 3 holsters for my LGS and traded my handy work for this.

Well the problem is right now if you see something you are interested in , you have too get it right then the El Patron I got they got 3 in and I got the last one , they were in stock for a total of 14 hours and 9 on that they were closed .
I agree the time to buy is when you see it...But and its a big BUT
The Planets must be in line... available funds @ price you can afford or at least live with, and of course you must have the $$$
That's what plastic was made for. :)
Which means that the 1st gen Colt I bought for $1200 twenty years ago actually cost a fair amount more since I didn't pay that card off until about ten years later. ;D But some things are worth it.

I had no clue I was going to walk out with the M57 from my friends LGS.
Simply asked to come in to look at and offer some insight on a cased Adams revolver and drop off some holsters I had made for him.
No money exchanged hands :) Looks way cool in my WB holster, Serbian Cowboy
Pop that "ATF" thumb safety off and the trigger pull will be mucho improved.
I saw a video, where the guy mentions he took his off, to mount some aftermarket grips.

Trigger is already pretty nice for a Milsurp, I might look into Walnut grips though :-\
Just my latest attempts at assuaging my affliction.
Nice :)
:) Very NICE ;)
Nice indeed. Appears to be a very shootable example. There is nothing wrong with the fitted case neither!!
People Are Hazardous to Yer Health
Added a couple to the herd today. A between the wars Walther PP in .380 with original holster and 2 magazines. Also, A Tisas 1911A1 that became the donor for a Colt slide that will be used in Wild Bunch. Plenty of 7 round mags already and an Officers Belt and holster set. Stuffed some Mexican Eagle grips on it too.
I like them... :)
What's not to like? Nice find. My first ever gun was a PP. Except it was an FEG aluminum frame copy. Feedramp was very lumpy, but it would feed ball and took my CCW class with it. You'd think one might want to hold on to their first gun but it was pretty crappy and I got an awesome trade-in on a Diamondback with it. :) But if it had been a Walther I would still have it for sure.

Here's a couple of pics of the Mud Puppy.
Well, after soaking in Mineral Spirits, the action has cleaned up and smoothed up considerably. The pitting on the outside of the barrel is deep, only bobbing the barrel will get rid of that. However, the bore had looked really rough, so with nothing to lose I used a stainless Tornado brush on it and it cleaned up beautifully! So, once I get some boolits in, I will see how the wee little beastie actually shoots with BP. Also, found out it is probably 1880-85 built, so BP only.

Some years ago, a buddy of mine and I were at a then LGS hang out (since sold when the former owner retired)
We saw a Shotgun News Ad for Romanian surplus PP knockoffs @ $120 each, 3 for $105.
So, on a lark we, Dennis, I, and the former owner FFL decided to take them up on the three for deal.
What we got were rather rough as a cob finished, otherwise shootable mutts.
I figured I wasn't hurt @ the $105 expenditure...
In fact, as trading fodder I came out ahead, still while it was OK, had it been a Walther, I too would still have it.
The M57 is a fun little blaster, I been running my hand loaded 7.63 Mauser rounds through it.
It cycles fine, but the groups are somewhat open.
The Bullets are .310 @ 90 grainers for the C96 Mauser. The Mauser round is loaded at lesser pressure than the Tokarev as well.
The Tokarev round is .312 @ 85 grains, so I opted to order from Ammo Seek. The best deal was PPU Pavi $24.99 a box 50 @ Minwal so I ordered a couple of boxes...I'll see how these do.
The gun itself, was according to the serial number made in 1980 in the former Yugoslavia (now Serbia) by Zastava. It is an as new, un-issued military model, rather than the commercial Zastava-Serbia marked
model they still make today.
Sorta of a Cold War relic and will be my truck gun.
I don't know if PPU sells their bullets loose :-\ maybe Sellier & Bellot does: https://www.sellier-bellot.cz/en/products/components/bullets/
I picked up spare Magazines for the Tokarev on eBay.
These are new current production, and a little hard to come by as several sources were out of stock including Zastava USA themselves.
They don't have the lanyard ring (like the Milspec I got with the gun) but that's fine.
Fit seems just fine, I also got the ammo from Minwal, but I have not loaded them yet...
That needs to be remedied :)
Found this Molle Tactical Pistol holster in my stash 'O' stuff box , not sure what it was made originally for, :-\ maybe a Glock 17 or 1911 , but a host of pistols fit including my MAB SA15 and the M57 rather nicely.
So the Tokarev has a home and will be my console carry gun...
Well Pards, picked this one up from layaway this week. A Cimarron Pietta El Malo in .357. Gotta love that octagon barrel!
Here are my two acquisitions from last weekend's adventures. A 1896 Krag SRC [1897] and a Winchester Model1912 in 20 ga [1914]. Neither is correct but close enough for me. Forgive me for I have from the wagon fallen. Ouch.
WOOF !
Swapped for an old Stanley [Crescent] 12 gauge yesterday. My g'nephew Lucas wanted to show it off.
Assimilated another to the dark side ;D
Cool SXS, good looking youngster too
Mud Puppy Resurrection....
This Llama Ruby was in mechanically good condition, except for the rattle can paint job.
I decided it needed TLC, and brought it home...I'm pleased with the results, found French military acceptance star stamp.
Major
That Puppy looks 120% better now. "It can breath"!
.32 ACP?
Slim
Looks great! How is it internally now that it is degunked?
Clean as whistle, and yes 32ACP
After the Acetone bath, it flash oxide, and it went into boiling water, then oiled and wiped down and oiled again while still hot.
I rate the original blue at about 50% or better, though thin and browning.
Not a gun, but I couldn't pass this up today at the swap. A coffin case for my main match pistols.
Thats cool
Picked up another 1872 RM Opentop today with a 7 1/2" barrel. Goes nicely with the 5 1/2" one already in the herd.
I bought 4 new to me guns this past weekend at the gun show. Of course I went there to sell guns, not buy guns, but when you see a gun that's about $400-500 under-valued and it just happens to be a gun you have a fancy for; what's a guy to do.
Here's the two I'm most proud of. A 1926 Winchester 92 24" round barrel rifle with an outstanding bore. And a brand new (just missing the box) Belgian A5 Light Twelve. I have always wanted a 92, and I'm a sucker for Browning A5's so there was just nothing I could do...I had to buy them...Ya'll understand right?

And found this long barreled 1903 Swede 6.5x55 in Raleigh on my b'day. Fallen off the wagon again dadgummit. But it was my birthday and I didn't get a cake.
Happy Birthday ...nice Swede
DL, yes, it is totally understandable
I understand. That happened with the Marlin 1893 .38-55 I bought. Been wanting one for awhile.
Slim
No cake?!?
that is sad.

Howdy Y'all,Well,I fell off the wagon and came home with a break action single shot .44 Magnum rifle sold under the CVA name. It has a Millet SP 3,5,8,10 RedDot sight on it,Now I have something to shoot up all the leftover .44Mag/Spl. ammo I have sitting around.
It is not new. I've owned it for many, many years, but recently fell in love with it again. It is a WestPoint by Savage Arms .410. Single shot, break open. Loaded with #9 shot, it is the perfect tool for critter control when "less than lethal" is desired.
I too have fallen. A Taurus model 450 in .45 Colt with a 2" barrel. It is the one on the right.

The Ruby w/ French military acceptance star stamp, now has this shadow box to reside in, the medals are original WW1 French Victory & a Croix de guerre 1914–1918 I got both off eBay.
Not sure if this qualifies for falling off the wagon, I just traded into a pair of 3 screw .357 mag Blackhawks, Both 4& 5/8ths barrels, One made in 1965, the other 1970.

Nice guns, Neat trade
Nice Blackhawks. I looked hard at getting a pair when I got involved in cas, always liked the look, but knew I was going to shoot duelist so I wound up going down the Vaquero Trail. Only bought 6. But sold the 6th, could not warm up to that 7.5 in barrel. But I like the 7.5 inch on my .38-40 New Service. The difference is that I don't have to cock the hammer with my thumb with the DA. All that barrel made the Ruger too barrel heavy for me to comfortably operate at any speed.

They are original unaltered, But the 1970 BKH34 has been reblued.I may use that for a custom .44 special conversion.
Been looking for a 20" Rossi 92 in .357 for a bit. Found one yesterday and traded for it. Been wanting one for my g'nephew to learn with, they are heavy enough that recoil from 38s is like a 22, and light enough for an 11 year old to handle well. These things have been like hen's teeth to find! This one even has a decent looking stock finish on it. Pics later!
looking forward to the pix... love it when a trade happens.... :)
I may be in remission ???
I was at my friendly LGS today and saw a Marlin 1894 in 38/40 octagon barrel. (these photos)
There were stirrings in the force even some hmmm :-\ what can I sell ? thoughts.
But in the end, I will pass.........................I think ::)
I don't load for 38/40................................Yet ! ::)
In another tug in the 'ol' deterioration of a period of improvement:... as it were !
A nifty CZ Model 27 Pistol, was donated to the museum.
As a donation I can NOT own it, but I did get to handle it some, and have been working on the ID description card, (for display) and that appears to satisfy :-*
Its serial number puts it made in 1939-45, perhaps just before Germany took over.
I'll get way better look Saturday and examine the TG for the date code.
Nice Marlin.
Just think of that Marlin as a lost kitten in the rain. It NEEDS a good home and love. You are abandoning it!
I'm sorly tempted
You probably whack puppies with rolled up newspapers too. So sad.
Aw so untrue...I love cats & dogs... what I am short of is CLAMS :-[
I wonder if a Go Fund Me might be allowed ???
Nah. Just find a Bank with a lot of money and a lousy Security System ;D
Know what you mean. Been looking for part time work myself. Maybe over the holidays somebody might be needing an old phart.
And its not the first cost, (the gun);
I reload for my milsurps 30/40 ,303, 30'06, 7.62 , 8MM Lebel - and a goodly number of small arms 32/20 up to 45 Colt., ACP & Auto Rim.
I'd have to get 38/40 dyes, brass etc., thought I would not be opposed to do so :-\
Thing is the gun is at fair price, And I think I need to look some harder at it.
I did not get to inspect the bore, nor did I find out when it was manufactured.
So, all in I be at about a grand.... Gun, dies, brass, bullets yada yada !
Now 'IF" I were to trade something :-\ but what ??? , I'm pretty much settled with what I have.
BUT the big BUT, I'm thinking and that is "the prangs" of the affliction, I have ::)
I have been in similar situations before. One option is to figure out a way to pay for the rifle, then add the components, dies, etc. as funds allow. Just owning a classic rifle like that is an honor; being able to shoot it can come along later. Just a thought...
Griff
I know how you feel Major, I've passed on guns that were a nice piece, would want to shoot it, had the funds but didn't want to add another caliber to the mix and didn't want to buy loaded ammo. I wouldn't hold it agen' ya if you passed. I do reload .38-40 for a pair of New Services a 7.5 and 4.5]. But am happy with my .45 marlins.
Ed, I have a Classic Limited JM Marlin in 32/20.
And a Winchester 73 made in 1891 also in 32/20, Griff, so I'm already down the reloading rabbit hole :P
I'll check with my LGS, if it is his to sell then perhaps, I'll put it on layaway or wrangle a trade.
Of Course, after I examine it further.
This truly is an affliction :-X
Lemme look, I might have some .38-40 dies around here somewhere for you...
Well, I went back, and I took a grand inspection on the Marlin....
Sadly, both tangs had brazed repairs as both had been cracked. This was not apparent in the initial photos offered me. :-X
That turned out to be the deal breaker. Tig weld repairs and proper dressing perhaps....
But Bubba had been involved.
Clearly, poorly repaired
Note: the cracks brazed (yellow arrows) and the washer use to repair the broken & missing end of the tang.
The last post and condition of that Marlin threw cold water and dashed my fever ....some !
Even set in some remission...but
I'm in full prowl again I'm afraid, actively messing with the hunt again ::)
Nothing in particular, just enjoying the hunt....
Half the fun is, the wonder of what will strike my fancy :-\
I'm always finding myself one gun short of perfection in my collection (Hoard? Stockpile?heap?)
Perfection in a collection? I do not consider myself to be a collector, but I still need just one more.
It's like substance addiction..

I disassemble it for visual and detail cleaning, I'm a little embarrassed I can't seem to get the striker assembly to rotate back ( I can get it in it just doesn't want to turn ??? )
Am I doing something wrong ? not really, just persistence
Up Date... GOT IT the trick is to lube it well for reassembly. These were machined at tight tolerances, no screws at all not even for the grips... oil it well on mating surfaces, and hold your tongue right and Bob's your uncle ;D comes under a heading "simple PITA"
NEAT gun though, and once you know how...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lid1aVoi0MA
I used to have one of those and they are a royal pain to reassemble. My suggestion is to pull it completely apart, and check for any tiny pieces of grit or lint. It is built to extremely tight tolerances. Good luck on the little beast.
PS: Triple K makes magazines that do function in those beasts.
That helps, the YouTube video made it look like a snap to reassemble, I just keep on at it.
Thanks, on the Triple K heads-up

I might be one myself. After my heart attack I decided to get rid of some to make it easier on the wife when the bucket is not repairable.
I inventoried and had 212. I contacted an LGS for help getting rid of them. He has sold 11 for me so far and I have gifted 10 to my daughter. I am down to 211.

You do realize just how much a FUN a 20Ga Coach can be when fed the right fodder?? I mean we be talking some serious FUN here. With light reloads and or Fiocchi "Trainer" ammo, a 20 can be some kind of SWEET!! Really SWEET.
Light. Fast handling. Quick on Target. REALLY FUN!!
Just trying to Help ya Know. Just a little HELP!!

I bought a 20 Ga. Stoeger coach gun a couple of months ago because I had a big pot full of hulls left over from my skeet days. It is the deluxe model with choke tubes. Because of the weather and my lazyness it hasn't beenshot yet. I hope to remedy that this Saturday at our monthly club shot. As The Coffinmaker would say "Burma Shave".
Lucky ;D

Not yet....will probably go and see about swapping out one of my backup guns on it.
I may be in some form of abstemiousness:-\
I was drawn to my friendly FFL, to fondle a gun he had just taken on consignment.
A S&W .32 Hand Ejector Model Revolver, complete with 89 rounds of factory rounds.
But not the original boxes.
The gun was interesting, though the grips had been replaced with faux ivory (plastic) Magna's
(correct grips in last photo example)
and the gun had been buffed and touched blued.
A good shooter grade, I decided to pass.

Shot my 1911 and RNWMP New Service at my cas club's monthly. Duelist of course. Shot the .45 Trapper and Marlin Model 24. We had a beautiful day but it was very breezy. Got canceled due to cold and wet last month. We had 10 shooters, I felt like I shot well with only 2 misses and no Ps or bad ammo, came in 2nd. Also shot my new 1942 Husky Swede during lunch. Seems to be dead on with my VV Tin Star loads, rocked my small sass marshal at 50 yds offhand. Need to stretch out the range next and put it on paper.
Worked out a partial trade and picked up an ATI 1911 Commander today. Philippine built, very good sights, and will probably bobtail it as I like a bobtailed Commander.
Had a little [and I mean LITTLE] beastie come in the store a couple days ago. A Keltec P3AT, a tiny pocket .380, that is now riding around in my pants' pocket. One of the best pocket guns around and rarely seen used, so I grabbed it.
I had one of those, nice little backup piece. The Hornady critical defense ammo works great and was very accurate.
Wound up getting three non-working derringers. Gonna monkey around with them and if all else fails will put them in a shadowbox for decoration.
Looking at a well worn but sound S&W K22 Masterpiece today. Hope to give it a good home. Also, got the derringer Shadowbox done.
Verry nice wall hanger, I made one a coupla of years ago.
Made this other one for the Museum WW 1 display with my Ruby, I brought it back home when I retired.
I have no guns out there now.
I really like how that Ruby Shadowbox turned out!
Well, put two guns on layaway today til I sell a couple up there. The S&W K22 Masterpiece and a Colt 1991 Commander that came in.
Those are cool, I understand " sell a couple first " :)
I'm consigning a piece now at the LGS and sold another a few weeks ago....
The gunoholic syndrome in full fever mode, the $ta$h is used the next acquisition. ;)
Here's my 1948 K-22 with Combat grips
(https://i.imgur.com/kDZqjS6.jpg)
OOOOOOOOOOH !
The good Major has hit nerve, has my full attention.
1948 S&W MY Birth Year, a bucket list acquisition... :)
I'm continuedly, on the lookout for my birth year.
K-38 COMBAT MASTERPIECE, pre- Mod. 15
if I were to make it even more of a search, it would be Ordnance marled perhaps Air Corp/Force issued.
Beginning in 1960, the U.S. Air Force began purchasing them, and the only distinction from commercial guns was the stamping of "U.S.A.F." on the left side of the frame.
So, the likelihood of a Birther and US marked is perhaps a dream fart.
Or perhaps a N Frame from 1948...
The closest I have is my minty M&P pre- mod 10. made in Nov.-Dec 1946- shipped in Jan. 1947.
Major 2, I got the K-22 in a trade, Guy that owned it traded it for a Ruger SP-101 .38 special I had, even trade.I think I got the better end of the deal.Sorry, but not for sale or trade.
I did a check on the SN on the K22, it too was made in 1948!
You Guys! ..... :D
Trading or selling off something is my modus operandi now days...
Some of my favorite acquisitions were from a trade.
My late friend & shooting pard and I, traded numerous times.
I've also traded with my friend at the LGS. But only his own or retail stock.
If there is a consigned piece they know I'll have interest in, I get a heads up and a deal.
But It has to be cash, so I come up with that or sell something for the scratch.
I have had to limit my search, as Gun Broker "IMHO" is no longer a safe haven.
Congrats to you both, K22's are very desirable, and to me 1948 would be icing on the cake!
Well, got the Colt 1991 home. Night sights and a good trigger. Even though it is plastic, it may stay in the gun. The plastic MSH has got to go though.
Welp, brought another CAS gun home today. A Bond Arms Rough & Rowdy, .45 Colt or .410. Should be interesting to shoot...
Also, picked up some 250 grain JHPs for it...
Just so you're aware. The extra barrels for the Bonds are addictive, Kind of like potato chips, you can't just have one.
It's been a while since I last fell off the wagon, but fall I did.
Yesterday this one came home with me, it is a Sauer Model 1913 (2nd Variant) serial number puts in 1916.
Not a martial arm per se, but with the arms shortage particularly handguns,
these were authorized by the German Government for purchase by Officers as their side arm in WW1.
Model 1913, Variant 2 – serial number approximately 5000 (with transitional pistols noted in the 5000 to 8700 range) – 134000 approximately.
The magazine safety was eliminated, and the rear sight was improved. Instead of the V-shaped notch the gun has a flat spring on top, the rear portion of which forms the rear sight and also secures the breech cap. (This flat spring latch and sight is reminiscent of the sight for the Bär pistol, which also served as the release for the rotating block. The hole in the rear of the screw cap is eliminated. The gun continues to have serrations only on the sides of the screw cap, and not on the slide. There is an "S" beneath the safety lever to indicate the gun is safe when the lever is down. The thumb grip portion of the safety lever has circular grooves through at least serial number 32121. The circular grooves are replaced by checkering by at least serial number 32482. The hard rubber grip plates are only slightly rounded at the top, with a distinct cutout at the upper left corner to accommodate the motion of the manual safety lever, and the S&S monogram in an elongated oval at the top.

Well, can't use it for CAS, but fun anyway. A Rossi Ranch Hand in .45 Colt.
Nice, Deacon.

I fell off the wagon, again. ::)
A S&W Model 15-3 followed me home.
Slim
Nice K Frame
It was made in 1972.

Couldn't resist this little beast when it showed up at work. A GSG 522, a little .22 copy of the H&K MP5.
That is cool :)
If I lived in a free state I would own one of these.
:) Really?? ;)
Other than Hunting People, it wouldn't be of much use.
If your that unhappy, quit whining and move.
It's a .22, a range toy, not made for hunting people, That has to be one of the most ignorant things I've seen on this thread. If you don't like someones choice of firearms just scroll past. No need to comment. And as far as moving,I would be out of this state if I could, but I have responsibilities here that take precedence.
Ah, you'll get over it. There simply wasn't any qualifying commentary that showed it to be other than a straight military(esque).
Sorry if I hurt your feelings.
I actually try not to step all over others preferences. In some areas, I am somewhat opinionated, which I try not to make much ado over. Apologies.
Sounded like the comment of a lefty liberal to me, not sure how it could have been taken any other way.
But to be sure as we tell the LL's just because it looks like something don't mean it is. But go ahead and give another dumb excuse. :-\
And then we have a completely inane "Label" applied by an ultra right thinking conservative with absolutely no knowledge of an individuals basis for an opinion.
:) I'm the Coffinmaker and I'm a Gunoholic
I've fallen. I've spent the last eleven months in ReHab from COVID. I've done well enough to treat myself to a reward. I scored TWO Brandy knew El Malo 2 revolvers. I am unable to post here, but photos are available on Cimarron's web site.
Absolutely gorgeous guns, three-n-a Half inch, Octagonal barrels. The actions are sweet right out of the box. Other than fixing the dumb two position base pin, no real action work is needed. I have, however, changed the grips out for Navy Pattern plow handle grip sets. Really neat guns they are!! ;D

First of all I am middle of the road and second you are one of those Liberal types that thinks they have a right to tell others what they should like and what they should own. Face it you said something rather stupid and I'm done with this, when I was little my mother told me not to talk with Liberals because they wanted to tell others what they should and shouldn't do and like most times she was right. Type of guns, type of cars, it's all they same, they just like to try and control others because they they think they are the only ones who are right.
If you can't see what is wrong with your comment on someone just wanting to shoot a fun gun you are a sad person indeed. >:(
Well ! when a carrot is dangled in front of a Gift horse, who am I to say no :o
These are actually made on COLT Machinery
Colt commercial Model 1911A1 that was manufactured under contract for the country of Brazil. There were approximately 14,500 made in total under this contract in the 1937/38 time frame with very, very few ever seen in the United States. Eventually the country of Brazil adopted the Model 1911A1 as their standard pistol and started producing them at the State/Military run IMBEL factory.
:) "Well Indeed" ;)
Major 2 that be a righteously nice Brazilian 1911. I have seen and worked on Spanish built "El Tigre" 1892 copies but I have never run into one of those Brazilian 1911s. I presume you also made the grips for it?? Really nice indeed!!!
Makes it hard to "Stay on the Wagon" don't it!!
No on the grips, that's the way it came.
I assume they are handmade replacements. :-\ .
I'm still reading about these Brazilian Contract 1911's made at IMBEL
The above Brazilian 1911 in Reply #442
Originally the grips would have been as shown in the photo below (not mine) from the internet.
Also note: the slide serrations are different on this Colt Contract commensal Government Model.
One of 14,500 pre WW2 purchase.
The Brazilian 1911 above is post war late 40's or early 50's IMBEL factory build.
Swapped into a clean Walther P-1 today. It's the post-war model of the Walther P38 with an aluminum frame.
Cool, :)
There is some very good info to be found on the Walther Forum, here is a link to one thread over there.
https://www.waltherforums.com/threads/walther-p-1-serial-numbering-and-matches.41003/
What is the Date of Manufacture on yours? it looks like I see 5/81?
I had a former Bundeswehr Model dated 9/81
My dad had a P-38 he brought back from Germany. He was there at the close of the Korean War, so always wondered how it was obtained. He ended up selling it to a collector. I was a sad little boy that day.
Mog, do you remember if it was War era or Post war ?
The post war guns were Aluminum framed used both by the Armed Forces Federal Republic of Germany (Bundeswehr) and the Police (Bundespolizei).
The one I have now is a 1944 Mauser "byf" Mauser-Werke AG, Oberndorf
I am 99% sure it was war era. Dad was in Korea 50-51 and Germany 51-53. He obtained it in Germany and had stories about running into former Nazis who resented the US presence. One such altercation cost one of his friends a stripe. The guy who bought it was big into WWII, so I have always guessed it was war era.
About 10 years ago I was perusing Gun broker, just window shopping.
I happen on this Stainless Steel Uberti, the consigner was Bob James.
The description mentioned it was a SASS tuned in 45 Colt.
The opening bid was $499 and listed with no reserve, there were no bids as yet and 3 days left.
So, what the hey, I bid the opening figuring I be out bid.
Well, when the auction reached 6 hours remaining, I was getting some nervus and some concerned.
Heck, I might win the bid "if" I did why? was there something wanky? ???
I won, and what I received was quite the "GEM" I had scored, actually!
The gun is a 2014 CM date code, meaning it was the then current year manufacture.
Bob James is or was a well-respected SASS competitor and Gunsmith.
The Gun arrived as new in box, with a Bob James Gunsmith detailed build invoice.
Including Action Job, springs, FP bushing, and the Colt checker style faux ivories.
There also a set of Black checkered grips.
I don't recall the list price of SS Uberti in 2014 or the going cost of an action job back then.
But I felt like a bandit :) and this gun runs & shoots beautifully.
The smoothest action on a SAA I ever felt was one of Bob James' guns! Yeah, that was a helluva steal!
I stumbled upon it; at the time I did not know of Bob James.
After I received it, I looked him up and found many accolades from his SASS customers.
I agree it is a sweet action.
Is he still working?
I kind of think he is. Used to be known as the Arizona Thumber in the fast draw world. He worked a lot with Legendary Guns in Phoenix, you could check with them. He was set up in their tent at Winter Range once, which was right next to the Cimarron tent where I was working. I had my 1st Gen SAA with me that the mounting stud on the barrel for the ejector housing screw had come loose (3rd time since I'd owned it). He took it with him one evening and brought it back the next day, fixed. He said the previous repairs had silver soldered the stud, but it was supposed to be staked in. He charged me nothing and it has been fine since!
I was just wondering; I have no SAA in need of service at present....
A recent acquisition, my only Model P, and 4 3/4".
Action is butter-smooth, but dang hard to photograph the beautifully carved ebony grips.(I'll have to try again outdoors on a brightly lit day.)
Thats nice John :)
Very cool. I don't know that I've ever seen carved ebony grips before.
Here is another in my collection, it's not at all new to me I actually bought it in 1971.
A Model 999 Harrington & Richardson Sportsman, I purchased for my Dad.
Here is the back story. my Dad had one of these H&R's which was made before the War. (the model 999 was introduced in 1932)
I remembered it well as the gun I learned to shoot when I was about 7 or 8. circa 1957-58.
However, in 1963 my Grandfather passed, My Dad relied on a Lawyer friend of the family to administer
the will. The Lawyer did indeed get his fee, but my Dad gave that H&R to him as a personal "thanks".
Years passed...
So, it was 1971 and Christmas time, I had turned 21 earlier that year.
I had seen this H&R Model 999 is the Sporting goods Dept. at the Miami * K-Mart.
BINGO, I felt it was the perfect gift for my Dad, and so it was.
He enjoyed it and we when shooting 22's on several occasions.
It returned to my possession when I lost my Dad in 1986. It is one of 4 guns that were my Dads that are priceless to me. The original pre-war H&R was defiantly what instilled my passion of Firearms.
* Kmart, which had 2,100 stores all over the nation, has not sold handguns since the 1970s.
As of Jan 2024, only two locations remained in the continental United States, one is that very same Miami, Florida store I bought the new H&R and a Westwood, New Jersey location.
The number was reduced to just two mainland U.S. stores when a Birmingham, NY location closed in late 2023.
I should also offer this extended tidbit, When...
I gave the above H&R 999 to my Dad that Christmas 1971.
He then insisted that I receive his S&W "Hand Ejector", he wanted me to have it.
This is the side arm he had on board the "Lenape" his 34' cabin cruiser.
He volunteered for service in the US Coast Guard along with the Boat and was accepted, just after Pearl Harbor.
During early months of World War II, he became temporary member of the Coast Guard Reserve. These temporary members brought their boats which would be used for safety patrols. Coast Guard Headquarters allowed some of those boats to be equipped with machine guns and they could carry pistols and rifles on patrols. (an enlisted CG man was assigned to go along armed with 1911 & 03)
It's another priceless piece to me :) Made in 1926
I was about 10 years old when I first got to shoot this one as I recall. I remember the recoil as "WOW".
big stuff, big caliber when compared to the 22 LR I had shot before...
I did it again. ;D
Taurus 66. .357 Mag. 7 shot cylinder. Appears to have been made in 2002. It is Taurus' version of the S&W 686 plus at about half the price.
Slim
Turn that frown :( upside down, nice score :)
Is that better?
BTW, a little over 4 bills out the door.
Slim
4 Benjiman's out the door... that should rate a "Hot diggity dam " ;) ;D ;D ;D ;D
Another piece that's dear to me is my Dads Remington Model 341 built prior to WW2.
It was produced between 1936 - 1940 when Remington went to war production.
This was the first gun I ever shot and owned; Dad gave to me when I was 10.
It would chamber 22 short, Long and Long Rifle.
I recall my Dad contemplated shortening the stock's LOP so I could shoulder it, I used to hold it in my armpit to aim.
I must have about 8 or so. I'm glad he did not, he realized I'd would grow into it.
I was a deadeye and a threat to every tin can and bottle I collected. :D
Great memories :) and still shoots great.
I have shown 3 of my Dads/ my heirlooms, it's only fitting to show the fourth one as well.
The Model 870 Remington, we shot clay pigeons with together.
It is the only shotgun I have any more, having traded or sold my various CAS doubles and Norinco
1897 Trench Gun.
Roger, how can you be a gunoholic if you're trading or selling your toys. Sounds like you're in recovery.
It's part of the syndrome, trade up, trade laterally or sell and use the funds and buy more ::)
My gun catalog inventory reads like non-fiction.
This one followed me home, a .38 Special Richards-Mason. Gotta swap the grips out for some Army size.
Very nice addition Deacon KC, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
What the other Major said ! :)
Yo Deacon, those are already Army grips on it. ;)
Well if'n Abilene's gonna pick on me, I'll just post this Sig 220 I traded for today. Needs a new front night sight, but looking forward to having this one in the herd.
You win, you put the " -aholic " in gun acquisition this month ;D

great Score Deacon!
Since it needs a front sight, I like to recommend the tritium 3 dot sights - they really work in the dark and line up quickly.
I would post what my "new favorite" carry sights are, but it would crack open a hornets nest lol

Thanks! It appears it is an ex PDgun from what I can tell. It has night sights but the front one is very dim, the rears are still very good. So a new Trijicon is on order along with magazines. Gotta find my old Hogue Pau Ferro grips from a former 220.
Today is a poignant day in my memory, on this day 3 years ago my shooting pard and fidus Achates
the late John Holmes passed. :(
We haunted our Friendly LGS every Saturday morning like clockwork.
had lunch together 3 or more times a week.
We shot NCOWS, hosting the Florida Posse' Cracker Cow Cavalry, which he and I chartered, and travel out of State to Matches in S. Carolina & Texas & Ind., several conventions and the National in 2016.
John and I often went to the Melbourne Fl Gun shows, we also traded many guns between us.
I've shown this one before, but on this day, I present again, our last trade just 3 days before his unexpected passing.
A Very cool
French MAB PA 15, these were France's offering to the trials for NATO.
15 rounds (one more than the FN High-power)
This one purchased in Heidelburg, Germany US Post exchange by a former high school friend of John's and Air Force Officer.
This is the military version; MAB briefly had a civilian version offering for import, so they are somewhat rare here in the US.
So, I have it out and will send some 9MM into my bullet traps, which just feels good :)
Boy, time has sure flown by, the thread is near 5 years old. :o
I wanted to recall the time frame of a purchased piece VS another, as to which order one came before the other ???
Well, I picked up an awfully clean little US Revolver in .32 S&W today. Actually made by Iver Johnson, it will serve me as a Pocket Pistol for side matches.
Is it in BP or smokeless era? S# range made after 1907 for Iver Johnsons.
Cool little gun I just repaired one (IJ) is 38 S&W in the BP era, for a fellow.
Though it was enclosed Hammer DA only.
It is smokeless, around 1915 looks like.

I carried a 642PC for years, great pocket gun. Try it with Winchester 110 grain Silvertips. Also, look at the Hogue wood grips for it. They stick out a little deeper, but are a LOT easier to hang on to and still let you pocket carry the little beast easily.
:) Oh Poo ;)
Some Lustrum ago, I had a small stash of Smith's. All had 3" shrouded barrels with gorgeous Combat grips. .357, .45 Colt and .44 Mag. Sadly, I let 'em go. Wish I still had 'em :'(

I put the Hogue rubber grips on my 642 airweight. Makes it more bulky and maybe not so easy to conceal, but it sure makes it easier to get a grip on. There is even room for my pinky finger.
When I bought my first pistol in '98 (a .380 Walther clone), and went to the range to try it out, my brother let me shoot his Centennial 640. The only ammo he had was some 170gr thumpers and YIKES it HURT to shoot that thing! Mucho better with 125gr Golden Sabers!
I've carried my Mod. 36 w/ Hornady Critical Defense 110 grainers, these are regular pressure.

The wood grips are just a hair smaller, but enough to get a decent grip. And being wood, they don't hang up in the pocket the way the Goodyears do.

Try a set of Ergo grips they are odd looking but feel great. I love mine. Tried rubber and wood boot grips and like these the best. I also had it cut for moon clips. Yessir, strange looking, but if they fit one's hand they can be awesome.
The concept is based upon the little finger's grip strength being optimized to a smaller dimension.
I do rather love the red finish! These days, as I get closer to cataract surgery, i cna never find ANYTHING because all my crap is black! Black hostlers, black pistols, black pouches, black belt bags, black shoulder bags, black cellphones and pouches, black speedloaders, black magazines, black eyeglass cases, black suitcases....

"Buffalo Bore Standard Pressure Short Barrel Low Flash Heavy .38 Special Ammo
158 gr. Soft Lead SWC-HC (850 fps/M.E. 253 ft. lbs.) "
Good stuff, actually makes 850 ish fps from a 2" barrel, low flash, and EXPANDS QUITE WELL.

This is actually the FIRST Brand-New gun I've purchased in maybe 10 or so years ?
Oh, I've bought new to me, even Like new in box consignments.
I think the last brand new, was my Uberti New model #3 in 2013. :-\
I did buy a consigned Springfield EMP, that was as new, unfired but still had a registered previous owner.
I also won a new Glock 19 Gen 4 a few year back, but traded it off. :P
Mostly, I have a modest collection of vintage milsurps or Duty guns and my Cowboy guns.
I did buy a JM Marlin new old stock unfired back in 2015-16 I think. Made in 1982 long before Remlin or Ruger owned Marlin. But it was 30 + years new.
My SSA Colt was unfired from a collector , but that was quickly remedied.
So, this is my first new-brand new gun in quite a long time.
I have to get the Planets in line, before its winging its way
Oh, that looks SO good. I see what you meant about the short grip, but man they are good looking ones.

Kevin, you linked me to Lyman Pachmayer and this grip showed on the site. It might be an option.
I'm going to give the Performance Ctn. OEM's a fair evaluation when the gun is in hand.
I have handled the standard black polymer on regular 642 and they fit my hand,
So, I have reasonable outlook for them.
I pocket carry and this will be my EDC. so, the minimal dimensions are favorable.
The longer pinky finger perch style grips somewhat defeat that desired wish.
Currently, I'm carrying this Mod 36 with classic grips, and I shoot it well.
The 642 is about 7oz. lighter, which was the point, lighter carry.
so, maybe a grip that fills my hand is preferable.
Haven't even taken a pic of the sad little mud puppy I brought home last night. Spent a Cnote on a really rough looking HiPoint 4095 carbine. I mean they are pretty homely to begin with, but this poor little gun has had a rough life. Gonna tear it down tomorrow, gotta at least get the rust cleaned off the receiver cover and some Rustoleum on it just to stop the damage. Bore and chamber look good, so there is hope for the little beast.

Vinegar and 4 ougt steel wool. Bear in mind that much of it is Zamak castings ( zinc/aluminum/ magnesium/copper alloy)
Nothing wrong with zanac, it is hell for stout , (tensile strength 58,0000 psi, shear strength 46,000 psi ) soemwhat heavy, but casts very well with excellent detail. The only downside is the only finish the diy can pull off is some sort of paint. Good luck!
Thanks Professor, but no the interior won't get paint. There is a steel cover over the internal mechanism that has surface rust and some pitting. That's what's gonna get 4ought steel wool and Remoil, then degreased and some Rustoleum BBQ grill paint.
Scrubbed the little beast and it turned out pretty good. Got a red dot mounted and will try to get to the range to sight it in.
First Brand New gun in many many years. :D
I placed my order for a S&W 642 Performance Center (no Lock) ;D
I just finished this build...
The rest of it.
Cool, what is the skinny ? :)
Bear Creek Arsenal side charger 16 inch upper, wit a Sight Mark M-Spec LQD Red Dot sight3 MOA circle reticle, Magpul fixed stock and various mil-spec parts to finish. Once I load some ammo and get to a range with it,I'll let you know how it shoots
A fine looking set up.

I took it out back and ran some hand loaded wadcutters and a cylinder full of Hornady Critical Defense through it. It is a little snappy, but not punishing.
The trigger is sweet, I don't have a trigger pull gauge, but it feels very good & smooth.

S&W had a Spring Rebate on some Models, it ended Apr. 30.
You can still send in your photo of the QR Code on the Box and a photo of LGS Bill of Sale, that deadline is May 30th.
The Rebate is $50 on my new J-frame, I emailed mine in on the 23rd it was approved, and I got the VISA Gift debit card in the mail on the 30th. :D
Just got most of the van unloaded from the Alabama Sate Championship but gonna have to show this off, a .357 Magnum New Vaquero. Really clean gun.
Something old something new...
I was going through my holster collection and pulled this one out.
I made it probably 12 years or so years ago for an Avenging Angel,
Looks pretty cool with the 642 :)
however, it's some to long for the Smiths 1 7/8" barrel so it was only photo opt :)

Well, it happened the 6 afore mention planets will align in the Constellation Taurus, so to speak.
A few weeks ago, I dumpster dived an old surfboard, it wasn't great, but not bad either.
On a whim I posted it on eBay, and it sold the same day....
My friend @ the LGS has sale buy on Taurus Poly Protector's, so I snagged one.
Planets aligned and I'm not really out pocket ;)

Now that Tarus is a right spiffy lookin revolver fer sure. I could well be swayed to acquire a "modern" new toy for one of those you betcha 8)
Thanks Mike.... I actually didn't plan to get a Polymer pistol...
I've had a couple, (a Glock 17, door prize I won and traded for Springfield 1911 Operator)
And a previously owned 2019 SIG 365, one of the ones with the early firing pin breaking issues.
I had the SIG stocking dealer repair and consigned it and down the road it went.
I did not know too much about the Polymer revolvers...I knew Ruger had the LCR since about 2008.
S&W has their Bodyguard since the early teens ... Then I saw that Taurus has had the 605 out 9 or 10 years too.
All three have been on U-tube with favorable reviews and comparisons.
Major:
The plastic revolvers' claim to fame is
Very light weight
Price point
Reasonably robust
More corrosion resistant (mostly) , esp important in your climate
But are known to have stiff to awful trigger pulls and not so good accuracy.
But as pocket revolvers, they shine! Plus most folks (exclluding me) are not to worried about accuracy
Past 20 feet. Pie plate accuracy at that distance makes them happy.
Me, not so much.
If I am to keep a firelock, I demand 2inch OR BETTER groups, at 25 yards, with premium target ammunition, fired from a mechanical rest . That way I KNOW that any misses are my fault.
You would be Surprised how many pistolas can achieve this once the optimum conditions for said pistol
Are achieved. Plus said tweaking means more excuses for range time. Usually unfortunately indoors....
But hey.

I got to shoot it today, @ 7 yards :)
I'm satisfied for its intended use, I have an emergency ditty bag for road emergencies, and will add the Taurus.
I feel the stainless & Poly will keep well with limited care packed within, were an autoloader more in likely would not.
I'll still CCW pocket the S&W 642... and for woods camp, add the EMP w/ in a flap holster.

I'm devastated!! All this time driving by all those defensive gun towers with their Laser Projectors and Charged Particle Cannons. "They" even started to Camo them to look like real tall shrubs. Then . . . . here was my own personal pocket sized Electro-Magnetic-Pulse Gun!! I were extatic I tell ya. Yippy Skippy happy. Only to have my Excitement quashed. It's not fair I tell ya!! I'm gonna be sniveling all durn day :'(
Wound up bringing two new pups home today, a Ruger Bearcat with genuine stag grips, which makes me very happy as the grips allow my oversized paw to actually hold and shoot a Bearcat! Also an 1866 Uberti Yellowboy carbine in 45 Colt [almost said the "L" word just to tease ya Coffin!].
I like very much...mighty cool place you get to work at. :)
I found out by happenstance that Taurus has a Rebate.
However, it's not a cash gift card a la S&W, it is in fact a credit at the Taurus Web Store, com.
So, $50 bucks off any item they have on the site.
Holsters, Magazines, Range bags, Lazer sights, apparel.... nothing I'd really need.
I looked and found only one thing I might want, and it was out of stock. ::)
But I have until October 1st, to use the thing, if I do :-\
I did make my own pattern OWB holster, from a just big enough scrap leather.
The lower left toe angled clip is how little the remnant was shy.
:) All Righty Now ;)
Considering that swell little holster came from "scrap" you have had laying around for who knows how long, and NOW it's a right fine scabbard for yer brandy knew pistola, I gotta say "Good On Ya." Ever body should have "scrap" like dat you betcha.
It prolly was 5 or 6 years ago. Actually, it was cutout in different pattern and never was taken beyond that.
The piece was too small for anything old west, so it became the snubby Taurus's.
I've always loved metal toe caps on holsters and knife sheaths.
Couldn't pass up a rather beat up Mossberg 500.
Ah My Good Deacon

It is only the labor of love projects like my grandpa's "better" grade marlin '95 that I am restore the wood and slow rsut bluing the steel....
And, btw, contrary to many opinions, when in the hands of a competant mechanic, the marlins are no more dangerous than a mod 97 winchester. So there. Nanny nanny poo poo.

has nothing to do with Israel, was built and sold ~ 1998-2002 from
somplace in Texas. Recievers were cast in different places, mostly
in Spain, and the barrels came from Green Mountain.
The American Rifleman January 2001 p.74-75 (authored in 2000) provides a basic review of the IAI M1 Carbine and indicates it was manufactured in Houston by IAI. The receiver was made from investment cast 4140 steel and most parts were manufactured domestically. IAI manufactured parts for the gas system, rear sight assembly, and a number of pins and springs. IAI was planning to manufacture their own trigger housings, bolts, and produce a version in ".22 Carbine (5.7mm Johnson)". The model provided to the magazine for testing had a WWII GI trigger housing and bolt.
According to the author, operation of the carbine was the same as the original U.S. GI carbines and all parts are interchangeable. IAI finish-machined the receiver, barrel, and operating rod. The chamber of the barrel was manufactured slightly tighter than the original GI carbines, and the testing done for the article revealed the IAI carbine provided groups of 2" to 2 1/2" at 50 yards, compared to the GI carbine's 3" to 5" with the same ammunition fired under the same conditions. The IAI M1 Carbine was available in three configurations at the time this article was published.

Aside from acquiring and collecting....one of my favorite past times is tracing the history of the Milsurps.
Beating the summer heat by perusing the internet, reading the history.
I enjoy Forgotten Weapons' Ian McCollum & C&Rsenal.
I spent much enjoyable hours researching my 03 Springfield, the various marks and a stock stamps.
That I have a pretty good grasp on, where it was and when during WW2.
I'm currently doing similar, searching for my Enfield #1 Mk 3* ( i will never know who, or where it was,
prior to...but
I will learn its travel after its FTR and subsequent import by C.I.A.
So far I know it was rebuilt @ Royal Small Arms Factory sometime well before 1988. (possibly 1954)
A letter to Century International Arms may shed more light.
The numbers all match Receiver, Bolt, and end cap with no restamps or strike thru
Don't remember if I've shown my No1 Mk3 Dispersal Rifle here. It had a run in with a hacksaw and lost but imo looks and handles much nicer.

How is the wrist marked under the bolt ? I'm assuming B

Here is a photo, only one I seem to have, a 10-shot group at 50 yds. bench rested.

There is nothing scientific about the results, just testing my loads.
2 or 3 years ago, before Covid anyway, my load was the Missouri Bullet Co, Hi-Tek coated .312 Diameter, 167 Grain FP with 13 grains of Trailboss.
I had messed around with a few different grains of Trailboss but settled on 13 grains, they chrono @ around 1325 FPS.
I made up the box labels from some existing surplus packs...

I am the current caretaker of modest handful of Milsurp's with a provenance.
Some have so called Bring back (capture) papers, a couple of others have a letter attesting the piece's signed history.
My Ithica 1911 is such, I acquired it from the actual pilot.
I met him and his daughter and purchased the piece.
William F. Roberts was a pilot in the Army Air Force during World War II. He flew 50 combat missions in the B-26 Marauder over Italy, France and Germany.
ROBERTS,
WILLIAM FRANKLIN
William Franklin Roberts, 97, died on August 11, 2019 in Gainesville, Georgia.
Born February 16, 1922 in Jacksonville Florida, William served as a B-26 Marauder pilot with the 386th Bomb Group, 555th Bomb Squadron during World War II. He flew 50 combat missions and was in Paris on VE-Day.
Shot these at our BAMM Saturday, my cut 1903 Springfield, a Husqvarna Swede, a Crazy Lee Model 12 and my cut No1 MkIII. Forgot to put my Auto Ordnance 1911 on the table. Had decent weather, 9 shooters, 4 cas- 5 boltgunners. Forgot my stripper clips for the 303 so it killed my time. Had one duelist pistol miss. 2nd place BAMM. A good day. The furry hat was the best I could do for my Swede. Wore a DI hat for the 03 and a British looking thing for the Enfield. Used each gun in 2 scenarios.
Neato :D
Shooting those old warriors is lots of fun.
In my case, I down load my brass in my BOLT Guns and only reach out 50yds.
The exception is my Garand, for which I bought a supply of Sellier & Bellot M2 ball for Garand in bulk at the Melbourne Fl. gun show in 2020.
My 30/06 hand loads with Trailboss, I figured wasn't going to cycle the Garand reliably anyway.
Trailboss in Milsurps is the BOMB and I have working loads for the aforementioned 30/06,
303 Brit, and 30/40 Krag, that is pleasant to shoot.
I also have a load in French Lebel, all and above-mentioned using cast bullets.
Many thanks to Dakota Ike who cast my Lebel bullets.
I omitted the mention of Mosin Nagant 7.62×54mmR.
I was given this one and so far, it has been regulated to wall hanger status.
My friend and I did shoot it when it was his, with surplus Russki ammo and recoil was some MEAN.
Dennis did give me some of the that surplus ammo, still in the original paper wrap.
But, I have no desire to shoot that stuff.
I don't have 7.62×54 brass (* except the surplus stuff *) or dies,
I do have some Missouri Bullets Co. cast lead. and I could extrapolate a load from the 30-40 Krag and 303 Brit for the reduced loads as they are similar in case capacity. :-\
* should I ever decide to pull the bullets :-\
not to mention the primers are Berdan type ::)
Here are the most recent that followed me home. Ruger Service-Six, Taurus 66 and S&W 66-8. The Taurus 66 is their version of the S&W 686 plus. BTW, the cartridges are WCC .38 Spl +P+ "law enforcement only" from 1984, which is what these pistols carry when they are on my hip.

Slim, those are some fine looking sixguns! I had one follow me home today too, a Ruger Mini-30 [fires the 7.62x39 round]. Very clean little gun.
I bought a Mini 14 back in 79-80 an 180- series as I recall, in .223.
It was blued and had a wood stock, sometime before they were call the Ranch Rifle and I believe before the Synthetic Stock was offered.
At some point I allowed it to get away, sadly I wish I had not.
However, I understand the early guns are no longer supported by Ruger or aftermarket and parts are becoming scarce.
It was a way different time then! and it often rode in my rear window rack in my GMC Pickup.
6.5mm Model 1891 Carcano dated 1896, so an antique.
Bore good enough that I collected a pile of ammunition and clips.

Fun fact - in the novel Beau Geste, the deserters collect some of these after escaping the fort.
Is that one of the batch recently imported from Ethiopia? I got one a few years back, it was the short TS carbine. Was in pretty good shape for being stored for years in Africa.
Cool, looks pretty good.
Well, I went and done it again. Went in to work today and my boss hands me a Tisas 1911 he bought yesterday and says This thing is NASTY. Can you clean it?" So I innocently go back to the counter where we keep the supplies. This poor little beast is beat up, somebody tried to make it look better by giving it a thick coat of shiny black rattle can paint [it didn't work] and it is so cruddy I have to take a bushing wrench to get the bushing to budge. Finally got the bushing loose, and yes, I did launch it when it finally came free, and then saw the filthiest 1911 I have seen in years. Seriously, only a loose 1911 or a Glock would run that dirty. Half an hour later, I did have it as clean as I could get it without detail stripping after a soak in mineral spirits. It now will cycle smoothly, so my boss gave me a good price and I will bring it home Saturday after payday. This poor little beast will get properly scrubbed, stripped and a decent finish applied. Then it will serve as my new WB gun. Pics when completed.

If it were mine, I would strip the finish and "reblue" using the caustic soda formula.
Let me know if you need the recide for that blue method. It comes out a very durable very dark matt blue that has a vague "militaryish" look.
Yhs
praeceptor miraculum
Here is one version of the caustic blue recipe
What you'll need:
Simple Green (or some other strong aqueous cleaner-degreaser)
lye (Sodium hydroxide; "Red Devil" brand lye works, sold as a drain opener. Be sure it is white and pure, no funky colored crystals.)
potassium nitrate ("Stump Remover" in the U.S., sold at hardware stores)
distilled water
container. Stainless steel or cermic lined. NOT ALUMINUM!
heat source
thermometer that can read up to 300 f./150 C.
Prepare the blue salts. The mixture is (by WEIGHT)
2 parts lye,
2 parts water,
1 part potassium nitrate.
Fill a beaker or any suitable container (NOT aluminum) with 500ml water, 500 grams.
Weigh out 500 grams lye.
Slowly add this to the water; it'll get very hot.
Obligatory warning: lye will melt flesh and/or blind you. Goggles, gloves, etc. This is a process for "big boys." Also DO IT OUTSIDE
Turn on the heat... bring the solution up to maybe 130 C.
The boiling temp is raised due to the lye.
Slowly add 250 grams potassium nitrate.
There is no noticeable reaction. Stir with a glass rod to dissolve.
In the mean-time, you can prep your parts. Wipe them down with acetone or similar. Then, what I did (and it seemed to work well) was put them in a pot, added pure Simple Green, and heated this to a near boil. Let them soak for 15 to 30 minutes at least. Grease and oil will be stripped. This is VERY important... surface prep and degreasing is 90% of the battle.
or brake cleaner. Or solvent or whatever
When the blue salts reach 275 F / 135 C, they are ready.
The parts should already be hung on stainless wire.
Remove them from the degreaser, and dip/swirl in clean, distilled water.
Shake excess water off.
Then, hang them in the hot blue pot.
Hack your watch. The reaction takes time.
Keep the heat between 135 C to no hotter than 145 C.
A good heat source is a plug-in hot plate or similar.
While the parts are cooking, get your rinse water ready... any container that can hold a liter or so of water.
After about 5 minutes, it should be noticeably black.
After 15 to 20 minutes, it'll be done.
Rinse them off in your rinse tank, then give them a thorough washing, paying attention to screw holes and such.
After the wash, you can improve the finish by buffing vigorously with an oiled rag, or 0000 steel wool.

Thanks Perfessor for that interesting formula. This poor little beast will get the slide stripped, for some reason the perpetrator of this abomination only seems to have subjected the slide to their malfeasance. That will make the stripping much easier. My back has finally improved, so work will probably begin Thursday on it. Depending on what is lurking under the surface, I was planning on using my old standby Oxphoblue from Brownell's. I have had good results in the past by heating the cleaned piece then several coats of the blue.
Deacon,
if you can, please take before, during and after pictures so we can see the progress. Thanks
Be happy to Major.
Well, I done it again! A HK USP 45 hit the shop last week, the price was right so home it came. These guns are brutes, but I still have a holster that fits from a previous one I was talked out of by a Williamson County Deputy.

Such a blatant TEMPTATION for a recovering Gunoholic. Be still or beating heart!! Breathe Deeply into the Bag. Try not to look. Do not Drool. Do . . . . . . .
Yeah! I know, I'm sorry about the TEMPTATION part :-\
Having checked the sock drawer and finding it is many CLAMs short. :-[
Temptation can be a pain. Right now I'm debating on a Pedersoli high wall .45-70 that I'm not sure I should be even considering right now.
Its part and parcel of the illness call Gunaholicism
Want and desire VS sanity
Yeah, we may be getting a Stainless Ruger Blackhawk in .45 with both cylinders on a consignment. I want it!
Very nice 1911, Only problem I have( other than lack of funds) is I wouldn't be able to see that tiny front sight. I'm in the process of having the front sight on my Colt 1911 replaced for that very reason.
Why I bought a Auto Ordnance 1911 to use in WB as my early Colt 1911 sights on my Heinz 1911 are so teeeeny tiiiiny.
Oh my
I fell off the wagon
Again
I finally scored a (factory made, not a project) Italian (pedersoli!)
Sharps Rifle in .45-70 with a 26" barrel. Thats as long as I can handle without it dragging
On the ground.
Notice the lovely poured pewter foreend cap
(https://image.invaluable.com/housePhotos/vogtauction/43/779943/H21069-L385414817.jpg)
And an honest to rudy Danish Rolling Block! A Model M-1867
Built in Kjobeenhavns Toihuus (thats the Copenhagen Arsenal)
In the original 11.7x42R and a 35.5 inch barrel.
I will need to fabricate a tiny caisson
Or acquire a pack burro. Or recruit some local kid as my gun bearer.
Is there an NCOWS costume for that
I wonder?

Practice walking around the house with one in each hand (okay, maybe not in the house). Then, when you carry just one in both hands it will feel much lighter. :)
Pedersoli makes great guns - nice wood, too. Did it come with half of a tang sight?
I don't know anything about that Danish caliber. Can you reload for that?
Why thanks guys
Jim, if you show up on your own travel expenses I am bound to be able to come up with some sort of costume or other....
Abilene , from what I can discover "so far" these are said to be similar enough to 45-70 that one can modify the brass. Some folks have claimed that BP 45-70 loads will "fire fine with some base swelling"
Which leads me to believe that fireforming the brass and using the correct lead boolit for the bore ought to work fine. (Is that enough caveats?)
Regarding the Pedersoli Sharps, the reciever peep is a modernish Marbles Peep.
If it does not provide sufficient travel I have a cheap Dixie or TOTW "midrange vernier tang sight"
I can slap on there

Coffin - if you are truly jonsing to cut on a barrel, I have a metric crapload of barrels
i am getting ready to sort out my "too many projects" and put some up for sale or trade, which will inlcude "too many barrels", a couple of Springfield trapdoor barreled recievers & parts, a pair of H&A falling block shotguns (only one breechblock), several pre '98 break-open shotgun rcvrs and bits and barrels, and a plethora of 1858 projects I have to sort thru and decide what stays...
I almost thought about getting a table at a show, or ebay but thats a lot of work for very little result. Especially dealing with fleabay thieves.

Those are some sweet acquisitions.
While I never had a Rolling Block, I did do some work on one in 43 Spanish.
Inherited by a gent, who knew nothing about it other that it was his dads.
My work included a chamber cast to determine its then unknow caliber.
On the other hand, I did have a NIB Pedersoli Cavalry Carbine in 45/70.
It was fine piece, fit and finish was first rate.
I allowed it sold, in a fit of greed I'm afraid :-X

The lit up riverwalk and riverwalk mini barges are really pretty!
My rifles are supposedly on the way. Original Roller and italian repro sharps.
Hopefully the shipper figured out the roller is not ffl.
Hopefully my ffl rcvr knows NOT to enter the roller in their bound book.

brand new for $249.
The closest RK was 72 miles (then) and I was just giddy to go grab one.
Well, one thing or another and I procrastinated::) and did not go.
Sometimes it pains I didn't get one.
Now Rural King has a location 1/2 the distance, and the Tisas 1911 is twice as much.
looking forward to the photos

Well, you guys got me. I ordered a Tisas 1911A1 from PSA for $299. My state has a two week waiting period, so I won't have it in hand for a while, but I hear only good things about them and for the price...
Griff
Griff, I think you will like the Tisas, they are good solid guns.
And Coffin.......nyah! right back atcha! ;D
I too think you'll be happy with it.
I bought one of these about a year ago. Out of the box it was rough as a cob. But, after some serious polishing and spring changes it turned out to be a very nice piece. The original slide spring could have been used on a railroad car. With the tune up it works as well as any of my 1911's.
Lucky ;D
I've mentioned before I procrastinated in purchasing one @ $249.99 on sale at Rural King.
With tax it would have been $267.47 and perhaps a $5.00 background check.
Grand total $272.47 out the door last December.
This year they are $429.99 :( + Tax & Bgc
however, the SDS Imports M1911 A1 Government .45 ACP 5" 8 RD is $349.97. :-\
I have 4 1911's two are Springfield Armory 45ACP Gov. and a 9mm EMP, a Cimarron/ Rock Island and my original Ithica purchased from the veteran WW 2 pilot's daughter in Law.
I don't need another 1911 (as if need was any consideration)
But at the $250 price it was "SCREAMING" buy me !
alas I did not, and the kick me sign is firmly attached to my backside. ::)
One thing I did not pass on was a cool trade for this Zastava M57

here is a bit of nostalgia,
It was 1956 Christmas morning, my folks more likely my Dad's influence, I was gifted my very first BB gun.
I recall now, it was not a Daisy Red Rider it was the Model 36 Daisy Lever Action.
That model (see photo) was sorta in between the Model 102- "155" - Red Rider.
I was in 8 years old heaven and perhaps in the envious position in the neighborhood at least the pre-pubescent youths, parents not so much I'd venture.
I later had a Red Rider with wooden forestock. I recall I had it in my early teens and for some time both were in my collection, I also had Daisy 94 Spit'n Image.
Now fast forward to 2024 and all these years, having collected
from Flintlock to C&B's, Old West through Milsurps
Probably the Daisy's started it all... The Wife gifted me a Daisy Red Rider, I'm 8 years old again
in a mid-70's body.

Well, got a couple things here to add to the herd. Some 50-90 brass for my Swedish Rolling Block [put a .45 ACP round next to it for comparison] and a AR pistol lower and an AR upper for a "stubby" truck gun. And yup, it is legal.
Gunaholic here too.
My latest acquisition was from discovering a nicely priced Smith and Wesson model 629-2 Classic Hunter at a local fun store. Been in a closet for years and a widow wanted to sell it. Of course I was happy to help. Even came with a speed loader and ammo. No box but I have a wood presentation box doing nothing so I mated the two and both now appear content in their new home.
:) Hacienda News ;)
Been sorta quiet at my Hacienda. I did however suffer a Wild Hair and sourced two brandy new Kirst Konverters for my already converted Pietta '51 Navy 44 Marshalls. Decided to pull the R&D two piece converters and install Kirst gated converters. Next I'll remove the Blue so the finish will match up.
Thats cool... send photo's Mike I'll post them here.
Also been on the wagon as it were, short on beans in the sock drawer :( after the holidays.
I was called in to the friendly LGS to identify a sporter.
They wanted me to slug the barrel and maybe chamber cast.
Well, it was not really necessary, I recognized the Crest on the receiver.
Argentine Mauser in 8mm.
After market sporter stock, shortened barrel, scope drilled (no scope though, maybe it was still in the case :-\ )
re finished, and a ramp front sight...
Nice professional redo, but ruint the gun IMHO
Neat AR, Kevin like button

Those are actually two different sets of Pietta Marshalls. The bottom row, left is the original after bobbing the barrel to build SNUBBIES. Bottom row right is one of the second set that I built without percussion modification with the first R&D conversion cylinders. Top row left shows the R&D conversion after I removed the R&D cylinders and built as Kirst conversions. Didn't look quite right Blued. Had a Sig365XL come through the shop,It has an aftermarket grip that fits my hand! So I did a swap and brought it home. 12 rounds of 9x19 in a truly lightweight gun. It's gonna get a Sig Romeo Zero optic once it comes in.
That's cool Kevin...I may get a new 2021 or later version.
I had an early March 2019, 365 SIG, great gun... but
It was supposed to be manufactured outside the early firing pin issues of the first guns.
I bought it consigned; The PO had sent it to SIG to replace a broken
FP under warranty. After a year or so in my possession, I sheered the warranty replacement FP again. This time SIG said to "have it repaired
at the SIG authorized dealer in Orlando" rather than send a shipping label.
SIG provided the part, but I was charged the gunsmith install labor of $65.
The bad news was I had carried the gun for 10 days unaware my last shooting session had broken the FP. I realized it at my next range cession.
Meaning for 10 days carrying, I was in fact unarmed :o
That still unnerves me some.
I have had a couple of Polymer Pistols, a Gen.4 Glock 17 which I won as door prize. I later traded it for a NIB Springfield Armory 1911 45 ACP.
And I had a SIG 365 (mentioned in the above post).
Awhile back, I purchased (consigned at my Friendly LGS)
This Springfield EMP in 9mm... this is the BOMB.
The PO installed aftermarket XS Sights, which took some getting used too.
I'm still not crazy about them, the front bead glows but the rear does not
so, at night they are useless. Daylight they are fine, still I tend to long for what I'm used to 3 Dots.
It carry's well in the pocket of loose Chino Pants but does print some.
I prefer to OWB carry and use a flap holster retention.
That holster is of my own making.
Well, a used S&W 329PD came home with me from the "toy" store.
https://www.smith-wesson.com/product/n-frame-163414
Came home and was going to shoot it with .44 Mag cowboy loads, but couldn't find any. I think Sackett shot them all at the last shoot. So, I found some unknown .44 Mag loads. I first shot some in the Super Blackhawk to make sure they wouldn't blow-up the S&W. Micah and I shot two each in the S&W. It is like someone hit the web of your hand with a stick. I will shoot .44 Special level loads in it.
Slim
Slim,I was not familiar with that model so I looked it up. Wow, that thing looks great! I think sticking with Specials is wise. :)
VERY NICE Slim :)
PLUS ONE!! No, actually PLUS TWO!! Slim's 44 is really Cool as is Major 2's EMP, excepting I'm not a fan of 9mm. Likes .45s I do.
Way back it the late 80s, I was collecting Stainless Smith's with similar combat grips and full underlugs. Three inch barrel guns. Had 357, .44 and .45. I still kick myself for letting 'em go.
Thank you, Mike I'm fan of 45ACP too.
I have 3 1911's including an Ithica WW II
issued to William Roberts B-26 pilot in 1945.
I also happen to have several vintage Military 9mm's in my modest stewardship.
* Erfurt (1917) Luger P08
* Walther P38 1944 German Military issue
both are WW II bring backs
* And an MAB PA 15 circa 1964 French Military Contract trials
purchased in the USA Hockenheim PX in 1965 (no import marks)
the only " Modern" 9mm I have is the EMP
I seem to be in some sort of In B Twix, nothing lately to feed the fervor.
This thread thrives on our acquisition-isms.
I mentioned in another thread that " I get almost as giddy on "new gun day" for someone else's harvest as I do for my own (almost)
My late friend :'( (miss you John) and I would meet every Saturday, we stop in at our Friends LGS and then have lunch somewhere.
Sometimes we just shoot the S*it and window shopped,
but often he or I would find something to take home.
I was just as tickled when he found a gem. Next time maybe, it was me and so it went...
Many times, John and I traded between ourselves.
My very last trade with John, just a few days before his passing.
My MAB PA 15 French NATO trials 9MM.
John acquired it in Hockenheim at the US Military PX in northwest Baden-Württemberg, Germany in 1969 or 70.
A small number of these were imported later in the 80's by Howco Distributing Co and would be import stamped this one is not and is in the military configuration.
It is unique pistol and quite special to me, I thought you might enjoy a revisit.
A very clean Sig P238 followed me home today. Gonna be my new "always" gun for pocket carry.
Finally got a purchase from Pappy for some grips done. They went on today and do they look good.
Yes they do!
Both look grand, Kevin
Ivory's look so elegant on the OT
and a great score on the SIG.
I know you guys work at gunstores so you are constantly presented with opportunities that are hard to resist. :)
Almost every gun I've bought in the last few years was one I intended to purchase. It's been a year since I bought one that I just happened across (Coyote Cap full race '97). (The Pietta '58's I won don't count) So I guess the Cavalry I just bought was sort of another impulse. Certainly wasn't looking for one but Sgt Drydock made me an offer I couldn't refuse. ;D (posted in Colt Clones forum).

:) Hey hey hey ;)
When I first went to Southeast Asia on my first assignments, security personnel were also issued the .38 for certain postings. At the time I thought it somewhat strange. I still think it strange the Army has switched from the .45 1911 to that flaky 9mm.
It wasn't the first time in history the Military made that discission.
In the Philipine Inserection the US issued S&W 38 Cal. 1899 Military & Police chambered in .38 Colt U.S. Service Cartridge. Fine gun, though it Was not up to the task over the Bangsamoro Muslim (Moros).
Hince the return to the 45 Colt and 45ACP.
In WW2 both the S&W Victory (Military version of the M&P) & Colt Commando (Military version of Colt Police Special)
were issued course these were in 38 Special.
After the war, the Gov., particularly the Air Force bought
a fair number (5000+) S&W Combat Masterpieces 1948-1957, Later in 1957... Mod. 15's,15-1, 15-2 and 15-3's
These would be the last Revolvers purchased.
I'm passably looking for a Mod. 15 and by extension -Mod. 1, 2 or 3 as carried by the AP (Air Police).
One marked USAF would be both Rare and costly if real (not faked) as most were destroyed by the Government.
Only way to know is a Letter check with Roy Jenks.
However, many Mod.15 used were not marked USAF.
I have post war Smith & Wesson M&P (1946) Pre Mod 10.
and these were also carried by air crews.
I have gun-a holic induced hankering to add a Combat Masterpiece - Mod. 15
