With all the interest in old west replicas and even WW2 replicas, how come nobody has reproduced the Krag Jorgenson .30-40 carbine or 1903 Springfield 30-06?
Those two rifles were the transition period rifles from old west to WW1. They lead the charge up San Juan, chased Pancho Villa into Mexico and suppressed the Moros. Even the Colt New Service replica could be done

I read once, that Mike Harvey (Cimarron) had sent or was to send a Krag Carbine to Uberti ( I believe) with an idea to reverse engineer.
as to you question "How Come "
for starters ...huge start up cost VS limited market potential for return
at least a coupla years of planning , designing , tooling up , producing working prototype .
I think it was about 5-6 years ago or so Mike mentioned in his biography UTube video, his wish for the Carbine to be produced.
Where he is with that is at is anybody's guess short off asking the man himself.
I'm not holding my breath.

I have a Krag rifle and having viewed and examined the internal action, bolt, etc, how they are constructed compared to Colt's, Winchester's, and other replicated firearms (not that they are simple slouches and elementary design's), a Uberti produced Krag would be pretty pricey. I'm sure Uberti looked at as the Major penned:

Not holdin my breath either.

I'd love a Krag repro, but I don't see it happening ever.
-
Regarding what the price of what a quality repro Krag could be, original shootable Krags are out there and with the exception of a mint specimen are not that expensive. I'd not be surprised that a repro and average to very good condition original would be comparable in price.

Maybe we need more movies and tv shows about their time period. 1898-1920. Spanish American War, Moro Insurrection, Panch Villa, Bananna Wars, WW1.
Rough Riders 1998 miniseries
The Came to Cordura movie from the late 50s
Sgt York movie from 1940
The Real Glory movie from 1935 or 36 (also with Gary Cooper about the Moro insurrection)
The Wild Bunch
The Professionals
Only ones I can think of offhand. Earlier westerm period movies and TV shows are listed as endless from the 1930s to now. That’s where we get do much imagery of the old west and the guns used
-
Big buck $$$$to start. Then you'll have to find a reputable rifle mechanic to get the bugs worked out. More $$$$$. Just ain't going to happen. Imagine reading the posts here my Italian made Krag don't work what do I do!

Red Dead Redemption 2 is set in that time period (1899, with an epilogue set in 1907). There's some great potential in that setting that's been underutilized, I think.

Add to your list "The Lost Battalion " Made for TV in 2001
BTW.... the US Enfield was issued, used far more by US troops than the 03 Springfield
Due to manufacturing delays, 3/4 of US Troops had the M1917 in France.
2.5 million were produced by Winchester , Remington & Eddystone/Remington by 1919
They are avaiable (though many were sporterized ) and more reasonable priced than the 03... ( in which in most will be 03- A3's anyway)
-
And also and because let us remember those rifle(s) were produced in such numbers originally, they could be bought in surplus stores for $3 a copy.
Except for a half dozen loons (whom also post here), there is NO market :-\

I recently read that was the case. The Enfield looks nice but is heavier. I’ve considered it. The 1903 was more widely used prior to WW1 in the Bananna Wars, Phillipine Insurrection and Pershing Expedition into Mexico

Guess I'm one of the loon's :-*
Krag
Berthier
M17
Had an 03-A3 foolishly let go 25 years ago
-
Guess I'm lucky to have my Remington 1942 '03 in pristine condition, not an A3. Had an even better Springfield with the half pistol grip and slightly curved bolt handle. Sold it for a song to a grateful buyer.
-
I gots 4 Krags. I'm special . . . :P
-
Add my name to the looney list! I have a lot of fun participating in the Grand Army of the Frontier events with my original Krag carbine/cut down rifle, and 1903 Springfield. The skirmish runs we are limited to lead bullets at -1500fps, but at the long range event at the Grand Muster in June you can shoot full power jacketed rounds. I was amazed that I could hit a man sized silhouette target probably 60% of the time at 400 yards with iron sights on an almost 100 year old 03 Springfield. (benchrested) I think I only have about $1400 invested in my rifle and carbine together, probably the cost of one repro IF they were ever made.
By the way, Colonel Drydock IS special! (with all due respect Sir!)
-
Respect? Really? That's something new . . . ::)
-
Hey Drydock, did you get the ECSASS picture that I sent you?
-
I Just realized I am Looney. I have a Krag Rifle, a Krag Carbine (cut down rifle) and a 1903A3. Still Looking for a 1903. Then there is my Martini Henry and a Burnside Carbine. That doesn't count my WWII Mil Surps.

I'm not holding my breath.
It has been several years since I asked Mike about it, but at one point he was thinking about having it made in the Phillipines. Haven't heard anything else. I would not hold my breath, either.

Well, add me to the looney list. I've got a sporterized Krag, an 1898 Rifle, a 1903 Mk1, a 1917, and a nice 1942 Remington 1903. Had a 1903A3 once but let it go, sorry about it too. They go very well with the 1901 Colt, 1909 Colt, 1911 made in 1918, and both Colt & S&W 1917s. ;D
