New month. Still raining ere and I'm eating maple nut goodies.

4:30 AM on the east coast....just got rousted by a cool nose , an indication Jake needs to water the plants.
Funny how they know just the right spot to apply said nose to get an electric jump start to you day.
Jake having now sniffed every brown blade of grass we have left ( no rain don't you know ) I'm up (5:02 AM) might as well stay up
would have stumbled in to do my own constitutionals by now anyway ::)
Hello May, guessers say 30% chance of rain Tuesday , yeah, that what they said for Sunday.
Gonna go make the Coffee....
-
We got drenched around noon, thunder, too :o Was close to 70 this morning, but temps have since fallen off ::)
-
Been raining all day. Spent over 2 hours in the rain after verk to put temp horse fence down the lane. Made it almost half way (300 yards). Got soaked. The fields are swamps in places. ::)

Taking my crew to Outback for lunch....

Made it back from Atlanta in one piece! The city was lush and green and already “HUMID” for this desert rat. Traffic was OK even with one major freeway closed due the fire collapsed span.
Major:
Hit a local Outback in Atlanta for supper Friday. Had the two rock lobster tails, plus plenty of bread for dessert.
The NRA Annual Meeting was great (close to 82,000 attendees). Got to see Trump’s address live. Security was pretty tight Friday with a bunch of Secret Service agents scurrying around, but they were very unobtrusive. One local TV station reported it was strange the NRA wasn’t allowing concealed carry at their own convention. Someone needed to tell them it was the Secret Service that stopped the onsite carry and it was only on Friday. Saturday I didn’t see any metal detectors anywhere.
The lawn gnomes didn’t show up while I was gone, so I still have sprinkler heads to replace, and grass to be shortened. I’ll get to that once my feet and legs catch up from all the walking over the weekend.
-
Evening all.
Just got home from my first archery bullfrog hunt. I got two. It was fun until the flashlight died. ::)

Funny you mention Frogs..... seems my Air Cond. Compressor is quite the itamae .... should the errant reptile ( frog > as in the tree verity ) befall into the large fan ...SUSHI ! and a plinking & clinking racket ensue .
Tends to wake you from a sound sleep....believing all HELL is coming apart in your Cooling unit ::)
Outback was very good....the boys made the best of the Company "thank you" for a "excellent job" treat....
to the tune of a $300 lunch tab :) I was happy to oblige .

Morning all.
It's supposed to be sunny and a high near 90 today. :o That's how it was yesterday. I'm about ready for this "heat" thing to be done with. I want 70 back!
I got a good cut of pork loin at the store yesterday. $7 for 4lbs. I cut that thing in half and cooked one last night with a rub. There isn't any left. ::)
As for today, I'm going to rake the chicken yard, walk the dog/throw her in a pond, and cook up those frog legs. I've never had frog legs before, so I'm taking suggestions on how to cook them. I was thinking just fry them in Crisco (don't have any lard :-\ ), but if anyone has a recipe, I'm all ears.

Finally some rain.... front is coming through... clearing with temps in the mid 70's today & tomorrow
-
We're glad to send you that rain, M2. Had the first sunny day in a week here.
-
Rain is coming to the Reno area tonight and most all of tomorrow. Made me decide to put off the sprinkler head replacing and lawn cropping until Monday. That’ll give my knees another couple days to recover. Already got a reprieve yesterday when “she who must be obeyed” decided to paint the retaining wall in the back yard.
-
We have rain here, too Major. Want some? It comes with a bunch of wind. ::)
Spaghetti for dinner tonight, with French bread.

Our rain was late getting here yesterday, then wasn’t much as they were saying it would be and then went away quicker that it was supposed to. All in all it gave the lawn a nice wetting without causing any of the localized flooding the were worrying about. Now we head into several days of 70’s before dropping into the 60’s. Nothing but sun for the next 10 days, they say. The sprinklers and mowing are creeping back into my to-do list.
-
Most riding mowing is
done caught up for now. Fixed a flat before and after the mowing. Combination of junk tires on the mower, and mowing recently cleared thorn fields. Still have some rough spots requiring the push mower.
-
It's been doing nothing but rain here for the last 5 days,We got 2 inches on Tuesday and probably a coupe more since then.I have a couple inches of water in my garage/Basement.Y'all can have all the wet we have here ,I'm tired of it... :-[ :-[ :-[

Evening all. I'll toss some wood on for the night folks.
City trip was okay today. I took my truck so that I could bring my brother home from church while our parents went to a wedding.
The weather this week was weird. Monday I scraped ice off the windshield before work, and Friday broke 100(!). Next week is supposed to be back down around 80. ::)

Sitting here drink'n Dunkin ( Donut brand coffee) :)
Yesterday ::) was a bad news day ....One of my Carpenter crew , was taken to the Hospital with heavy breathing issues & chest pain....
EKG so far showed no cardiac infraction ...but they are admitting him at least over night.
Another called, and said he went down on his Motorcycle , he was taken to the ER and released with nothing broken , he say's he has road rash on his back , shoulder, and elbow ( he wears a helmet ) and will miss a day or two.
The Cool snap we enjoyed over the weekend, will end today (59° right now ) as we should reach 91° .... Thursday guessers say 98° :o

-
You're makin' me jealous again, Slim.
Morning all.
I'm not sure what the forecast is for today. I've heard both rain and sun, and it looks like it could go either way outside right now.
I've got to make a city trip tomorrow. I have a paycheck that needs depositing, and I want to pick up a China-Mart 4-16x scope to put in the quick detach mount I got yesterday. It was a blem part, so I got it for 55% off. ::) I need another one so I can switch between my 1x and 16x scope on my 223s.

Thanks for the coffee...I needed it. Stayed up late last night. I made a canvas garment that was a mock-up for sizing. It looked so good, I decided to finish it out. Well...I learned a lesson or two...it came apart at the seams as my stitching wasn't correct. Of course, it didn't do this until I was completely finished! There is no salvaging the garment, but at least I know the size I need, and more about stitching (note...I don't sew, I stitch....women sew).

Currently 40 heading for 60 and clear skies.
This weekend is the Truckee River Festival. (Kayaking, crafts, beer booths and food). This year we even have a river! The flow is about 5 times faster than is normal for this time of year. Only the professional Kayakers will be allowed in the river. The Fire Department’s water rescue team has put on additional help, to keep people out of the water and pull out those that manage to get in where they’re not supposed to be. 2 years ago you could walk across the river and not get get your feet wet! Not so this year!
-
Morning all.
We have a similar water circumstance here Russ. At one fishing hole I frequent, I used to have to drive to the end of the boat ramp, turn right and go another 2 miles along what should be the bottom of a lake. This year, the place I used to fish is almost 60 feet under water. :o Which is actually how it should be...
For my schedule today, I'm leaving in about half an hour for a SAR training. We're working with helicopters today. I've never gotten a ride in a helicopter bigger than an R44, so this Huey ought to be fun. ::)

Today was eventful. We rode in the helicopter for SAR today, though we had to cut the training short because of weather. :-\ But, I was lifted 100 feet in the air on the end of a 1/4 inch cable in a 30mph crosswind. Fun. ::)
After the helicoptering, I went out and burned through some 5.56 and 12 gauge ammo.

Some years again she used to carry a toy pistol in her purse. The last couple years she expressed interest in concealed carry. We were going to attend a CCW class this Spring but our schedules did not allow it. We will look into it again soon.

I got the wifey a little .380 Cobra, I think that's what it was. It was ok, until the slide fell off while she was shooting one day. It went out the door after that little stunt. Then I got her a S&W .40. Aside from not having a safety, it has been a real sweet little gun for her.

Afternoon Ladies and Germs. ;D
Sunny weather in California the past few days. A little splash of rain on Tuesday, but that was it.
Wednesday, I helped my dad install an internet site for a school down the Trinity river (town of Burnt Ranch in case you're wondering). Ie, I loaded my truck with $1100 of super fragile solar panels, then drove 10 miles down a road that I wouldn't even think of going without expensive stuff in the bed. There was one pothole that was so deep I almost knocked the running board off the passenger side. :o Then I had to go through a spot where the brush had completely grown over the road. And not soft brush either. This was Cyanothis, a plant so hard the Indians used it for fishing hooks. I've been waxing for two days, but few of the scratches have come out. :-[
Also on Wednesday, I banged my knee hard enough that I'm still not sure I didn't break my kneecap. I could barely walk afterwords, and the leg swelled up. Thursday it at least moved, but not within it's full range of motion. I'm in the same boat today. I can walk, but not very far. Made kneeling at work fun.
Today, I have to make a city trip. My high school is graduating a class today, so I have to go and watch. Also, I know the Valedictorian. Afterwards, I have to do a bit of shopping, since the family is leaving for vacation on Monday. I'll be alone two weeks. Lucky me.

Well, I hate to see coffee go to waste, and when it is in the 90's, hot coffee really doesn't cut it. Right now, central Georgia is getting buckets of rain, and it is in the 60's... a fresh pot of coffee is just what the Doc ordered. This evening, it will be espresso ;D

That's the ticket! I have close to 30 coffee pots, including several stove top espresso pots... But not a single Turkish pot! I can't even find Moroccan coffee anywhere. It has a unique citrus like aftertaste to it. Of course, where I live now, MickeyD's is the bomb. So sad...

served in a plastic bag with a straw. Good stuff. With a roasted rice bug yummy.
Ahh, the beverage in a plastic bag with a straw. Never been to Thailand, but if you're in the Philippines and stop at a local "sari sari ' store, and want a coke-to go-you get it in a plastic bag with a straw. Still using deposit glass bottles there, at least they were 8-10 years ago. Saw plastic liter bottles there the first time on our last visit, about 5 years ago.

Morning all.
If anyone wants some clear weather, we've got plenty here in California. The caveat is, you have to give up the Bill of Rights to enjoy it. But that's a discussion for another time.
The family made it to Wisconsin last night, so the first part of their journey is over.
I'm up to my ears in eggs right now, Roo. 8 laying hens, and I can only handle 3-4 eggs in a day. :-\ I'm giving them away by the dozen.

Russ, they're in the La Crosse area.
Got a couple frogs last night. I don't feel like eating them right now, so I have them in the freezer, though I might just boil 'em up and toss em to the chickens.
Perhaps someone here can help me with this one. I'm needing a new deer/pronghorn/elk/bear rifle, and I'm trying to make up my mind between a M70 Featherweight 280Rem, and a Browning '81 Lightweight 30-06. I already know the ballistics arguments, so it's mostly just I can't decide which I actually want. ???

And a top o' the mornin' to y'all! The coffee is... HOT, the weather is COOL and clear for the time being. I finished up the holster I was working on, and shipped it off to it's new home yesterday. Sorry, no pics posted, since I managed to fry my laptop. No way to upload a pic at this time.
It seems like the laptop was just a victim of a streak of bad luck, which started on 4/20. The day was going smooth and mellow, until supper time. It was feeding time for the pack of dogs, and one of the rescue mutts broke his choker and went after another dog. Got a hold of him, my boy had the other, and the mutt snapped down on my finger. Almost ripped the tip off. Got them separated, and that is when he got cocky. Figgering he was safe, now that he disabled my trigger finger, he reached up and grabbed a hold of my face. Several hours in the ER got me several stitches to a ripped lip, a few more stitches to reattach the fingertip, splint for the fractured finger, and the cute little nurse then went on a stabbing spree with every needle she could find. I also had to go through a course of rabies shots. You find a starving dog, feed it, give it a home, and this is how he says thanks.
A week later, and I'm sitting down to a HOT espresso and a movie at the end of a quiet day, and all the dogs are going off. I step outside to see what the fuss is, and I see flames in my woods. I'm in flip flops, running jugs between the well and the fire, until I realize I'm in over my head. After several minutes of spelling out the street name, I give up with the 911 operator, and hope she gets it right. She did, and a half hour later, the fire dept arrives. They decide that they can't get back there, and call the forestry people. They then spend the next two hours standing around, smoking cigarettes and dropping butts in my driveway, while I continue running jugs of water back and forth. A bunch of fat rednecks in shorts and ball caps just watching. One of them even had his wife or girlfriend there! Forestry shows up, runs a trencher around the fire, and then they all leave. I finally stopped running water to it around 2am, but was up the rest of the night keeping an eye on the flames. It finally died out when it rained a week later.
Then one of the pups got a hold of my laptop charging cord. I tried to patch it, plugged in the cord... and shorted the circuit board.
And that is why I can't post pics of the holster. But, it came out really nice! It is for a .45LC, 5 1/2" barrel. Full skirt, fully lined, antiquated medium brown, black border and liner, and basket weave tooling. If he should decide to post pics on the other board, I'll piggyback a link to them.
Wow! Time for another cup o' HOT coffee ::)

Well, for deer I love my 30-30 lever action Winchester. Never hunted elk or bear, so I guess I'm not one to help you. The availability of local ammo would be my deciding factor. How cheap and easy can you get ammo for the 280 where you are? I'm guessing you could find 30-06 everywhere, unless folks like to stock up on it, and leave the shelves bare.

My go to rifle is a 1928 Winchester 30-30. ::) But, it's old and tired, and since I've got a decent chance of pulling a plains pronghorn tag, I'm wanting some extra reach. As to ammo, '06 is $15-$40 a box, depending on manufacturer. 280 is $18 - $45, and the local Sportsman's Warehouse carries it. Really, I'm deciding between bolt and lever. ::) And lever is almost winning.

My old 30-30 is old, ugly, and tired... just like me. It's a match! And, I was able to put 3 rds in a cigarette pack at 100 yds with just the old iron sights. Of course, my eyes are having a hard time lining up the front, back, and target these days :'(

Top O' the Mornin, y'all! The coffee is fresh and... HOT, the sky is clear, and I'm sure it's going to be... HOT outside. It's a good day for a nice Sunday drive to see the folks in Athens. Yeah, so it's not technically Sunday... I'm an Outlaw and a Rebel, and I don't follow convention ;)
Got a new laptop yesterday, and spent the rest of my day fighting with trying to load websites and software. Can't find my Photoshop disk, couldn't remember forum passwords... but, overall, I won 50% of the battles. So it's a WIN! I even uploaded a (poor quality flip phone) pic of the holster I just finished. It's over at the Leather Show off section.
Y'all have a great day, drive safe, and watch out for fools on the road for the Holiday :)

Started out hot and humid this morning, then RAIN. And tornado warnings all around. Little bit of hail now and then.
-
Evening all. I got the fire banked, the coffee on, and sourdough biscuits on the rise overnight. ::)
All is sunny in California. Today was 95, with 45% humidity and not a cloud in the sky. Pretty interesting day, though. I almost had a bout of fisticuffs. :o
I took the dog for a nice long car ride, to the tune of 100 miles. Rolled the odometer to 187000 on the way back. That's 3,000 miles I've put on the truck, but that's neither here no there. ::)
Anyway, we were at a pond up north a ways that the state just stocked last week with rainbow trout, hoping I could make a video. There were a number of people there, but there was enough room for me to have an entire shore to myself, so I tossed out a line and set my pole down in a Y-stick, then went off with the dog to catch some bullfrogs a ways off. While we were out frogging (no luck, by the way), a total hipster/yuppie pulled in. Del's favorite type of guy: skinny jeans, iphone, starbucks, driving a hybrid crossover. The works.
He could have fished anywhere along the quarter mile of free bank, but he decided the absolute best place was exactly where my pole was. While I was at my truck to get a sip of water, he sets up with a spinner and casts directly across my line. I was using a sinker and sinking line, so it wasn't really a problem. I told him politely that my line was there, but that it should be fine if he was careful to keep up in the top couple feet of water. He told me that he was going to fish where he wanted, and that I could go stuff it basically (that's the "grandma friendly" version). Instead of running over and slapping him like I really wanted to, I told him to watch his mouth since there were some young children within earshot, that I had been there first and if he was trying to intimidate me into leaving he would have to do a lot better than run his tongue.
He set down his pole and started stomping over, rolling up his sleeves. I told my dog to get up in the truck (it surprised me when she listened so quickly. Pleasant surprise, though), hung my Stetson on the antenna and came to meet him, pulling a Cliint Eastwood and kicking up the dust every time I stepped. The Peacock effect my uncle calls it: making yourself look a lot more bada$$ than you actually are. I.e. a bluff.
Here's where I mention that I was actually pretty nervous. I'm only 5'6", and this fellow was around six feet. Definitely at a size disadvantage. But how seriously can you take someone who's wearing skinny jeans, flip-flops and drinking Starbucks?
We got close and he stood there glaring down at me for a few seconds. Then he got back in a sort of karate stance and started moving his hands like Bruce Lee. Then he just says "F-you" and drives away. ???
So there's my John Wayne moment of the month for you.
I also caught a racer snake, and ate cookies.

These guys , amaze me.... 99% of them got their advanced training from the last Martial Arts Movie they saw. ::)
the other one percent took a class when they were 11 and then probably used the jump suit as pajamas till they were 18 .
BUT don't assume this be the case, stay calm and rational . If He has true combative training, you could find yourself in a bad position very quickly
REEL Martial Arts VS You....they are IDIOTS or crazy trying to intimidate you, keep some distance, remain calm , avoid heated language., remain non-threatening. look for the nearest "HIT WITH" if it comes to that... ....
Better still back away, may hurt your pride a bit , your pride will recover and you’ll experience no lasting effects both medically and legally from choosing not to fight.
REAL Martial Arts VS YOU... these guys don't peacock , they ARE confident , and never need to strut.

I'm of a different school than you Major, I like to find things I can hit with them... Beat a tree with them, pick them up and try to break the ground with them, bang the snot out of their car with them... then put a stomping on them until they quit squirming and squealing. Always better than risking a broken hand throwing punches. I'm not bad, just mean :)

0 Dark Hundred Hours, Somewhere in the Woods-
Good Morning all! The coffee is... HOT. and just brewed. Now, you might be asking, "What the Hell are you doing up at this hour?"
Me too, and I blame the wife. She and her fellow DevilNurses are having some sort of party at the Hospital tonight, and they are all bringing in food. My sweety volunteered to bring in pulled pork, which in turn, volunteered me to smoke her butt... as it were. Coals are hot, my special rub with all the secret herbs and spices is rubbed in, and her butt is on the fire for the next 12 hours.
At times like this, I remember the many quiet hours that I spent in peace, back when I was a poor lonely bachelor.., and I wonder just where that all went horribly awry...
