Title: The Devil Made Me do it!
Post by: Tuolumne Lawman on April 17, 2017, 08:57:17 PM
Well, for now I have been using my 4.75" .45 Colt 1872 Open Top and a Pietta 1860 Army 8" barrel, with a Kenny Howell R&D cylinder as main match guns.  The 1860 is only until I get my 7.5" 45 Colt Open Top out of Californication Jail around the first of May.  I was considering, however, if I really wanted the 1860 with the R&D cylinder as my back-up pistol (in case one goes down), or did I want something with a little more panache'. I always liked the Uberti Thunderers, but that would be another 30 day wait AFTER May 1st.

Then I tripped across this:  A Pietta 1860 Army, with Thunderer Bird's Head grips and a 3" barrel!  Add my Pietta compatible R&D cylinder, and instant cool-ness!  Needless to say, one of my credit cards is a little lighter...

 ;D :o ;D :o

 ;D
very sweet!  Major 2, I was actually thinking about your Avenging Angel snubbies when looking for panache'.  When I googled snub nose 1860, I got the Thunderer grip and was instantly smitten...

Speaking of Thunderers... I remember when Uberti first released them. I was in SASS and had an FFL.  I sold a 3 or 4 incher in .45 Colt to a retired Deputy that was also a cowboy.  He used it as his every day carry weapon.  I was also a deputy in a rural mountain county at the time, and tried to qualify wit a 4 3/4" one asa duty weapon...that went over like a turd in a punch bowl with the brass... I could carry my Glock with lotsa bullets,  but they were afraid that a single action would make me look like a gunslinger. :o

Hmmmm... I'm like Ralphie waiting for his Red Ryder BB Gun on Christmas!  I paid 2nd day air, since I'm too old to be patient about my toys!  Supposed to be here Thursday!!   :o  Ugh!  I'll start with the R&D cylinder I already have, but I bet I end up with a gated Kirst Konverter and milling out the frame!

Durn Tuolumne you are going to send me to the poor house flashing all this gun porn.  ;D. I like you have purchased two new 7 1/2" beauties recently an 1860 fluted, a 1872 open top, and searching for an 1866 Winchester or 1860 Henry.  Now you gone and done this. Where's my wallet?!?!? Now I'm in a search for a 1860 snubbie like Dallas Stoudenmire carried.

I GOT IT!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

The R&D didn't work, but after a little work on the cylinder pawl, It is dead nuts on timing.  It still sticks a tad, so I will stone it a little more.  Pics tonight.  I is BAAADDDD AZZZZZZ!

I have been looking at the same one.  I have a Remington snubbie that I had made but the Colt is some kinda nice.  I too have a Colt R&D that will fit. Man it is tempting. ::)

OMG!, I love this thing.  Here's my Avenging Angle Thunderer (AAT) with Kenny Howell's R&D .45 Colt conversion cylinder, shown with my 4.75" 1872 Open Top:

(http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg134/imarangemaster/Pair%20of%20Aces_zpskwtfur7k.jpg) (http://s247.photobucket.com/user/imarangemaster/media/Pair%20of%20Aces_zpskwtfur7k.jpg.html)

Very crisp trigger, and feels AWESOME in the hand.  I have a feeling there will be stages where the 7.5" 1872 (still in Californication jail) will sit out in favor of the Avenging angle.  Wedge is perfect.  can be removed and installed with finger pressure.

You know pards, I think Open Tops, and 1860 Richards and Richards-Mason pistols are purtty darn sexy, but this little Avenging Angel Thunderer is absolutely the sexiest SOB of a CAS pistol I have ever owned!  I had an El Paso Sddlery Slim Jim coming for it, but UPS lost the package!  They have no idea where it went after San Pedro, CA.

Though Major 2 never stated, and for those that did not take Latin, "Sinister" means left, and "Dexter" means right, in the long dead Latin language!

The right has power, the left is a beauty

Just a heads up.  I am submitting an article to the Cowboy Chronicle on the Thunderer with R&D,  I was a staff writer for them 1996 to 2013, and did something like 100 to 150 articles through the years.  Literally too many to count.  I'll post the pictures I took here.

Well I went and did it.   ;D. Waiting for delivery from Taylor's of a Pietta 1860 Colt snubbie. I already have a conversion cylinder that I bought from Taylor's for another Pietta 1860 engraved that I just picked up on the wire.  Should fit.

Life is too short to deprive yourself.   ;D. At least that's what I tell myself.

Cool, did you get the Thunderer grip snubbie like me?  It is sooooo freaking awesome, I bought a special holster for it on Ebay.  I know one of my open tops will sit out the match some of the time so I can use it!  I even sent a message to Hoof Hearted aboiut a Kirst installation.

Yes sir.  Same one.  I possibly have a holster.  It is a clip on western holster made for a cut off Remmington 1858.  We'll see.  May arrive this week or early next.  In the meantime, I will enjoy the pictures you post/posted.

I am stricken, so based on Roger's (Major 2) recommendation, as well as a few others, I got ahold of Gary "Hoof Hearted" Barnes at "Cartridge Conversions" http://www.cartridgeconversion.com/. After the Railroad Flat Shoot out in May, I am sending the 1860 Thunderer to him to fit and channel it for a Kirst Konverter (which I am also buying from him).  The R&D is great, but the little guy is a keeper, and I want it gated.  I am doing a future Cowboy Chronicle article on him and his gun work, so he will lend me one of his Thuer Conversions to include with the Kist.  The Thuer REALLY intrigues me!

This is the cut off and custom Remington 1858 that I had made.  A local gunsmith did it for me.

[imgURL=http://s732.photobucket.com/user/shack1030/media/image_zpsofoekbw8.jpg.html]http://(http://i732.photobucket.com/albums/ww327/shack1030/th_image_zpsofoekbw8.jpg)[/URL/img]

The holster on the left was a Cabelas 1858 Remington/1860 Colt full size holster that I cut down and sewed.  The one on the right is a belt clip holster that fits the Remington and should fit the snubnose colt.

PS How do you post such large photos?

Wow, here's a gunbroker listing of the same gun, WITH an R&D for $329 current bid (5 days left). Good buy, as I have $350 and $220 (plus shipping on both) on mine!

My Pietta 1860 snubbie from Taylor's arrived today.  :D  What a sweet piece.  ;D  Color case frame is beautiful and the checkered grips superb.  Have not had a chance to see how my conversion cylinder fits.  It was shipped to my shop and I'm on my Harley, so it will have to wait till tomorrow.  Obviously, looks just like the ones in your picture.

The Devil sure gets around.

I think Taylor's is the only one importing it with he Thunderer grip. I have seen some others with the rounded back birdshead but not with the Thunderer with the hump. You can I'll love it when you shoot it😁😁😁😀

Like a kid in a candy shop.  ;D  Pietta snubbie from Taylor's fits the holster perfectly and the engraved 45lc conversion cylinder fits perfectly.  Now I gotta go out and shoot it.

Life is good.
