Going to head out to a new-ish spot and run a couple hundred pounds of sand through the sluice and get get some gold. I sampled there a few days ago and got good gold, so I'm going to go put some work into it.

Got a Flu shot ...sure enough, I have flu like symptoms, mild but defined ::)
Like they say " No shot , you may get sick for a week ...with the shot, maybe mildly sick just 7 days.
I'd had full zoot FLU a few times in my formative years....I don't care to be that sick again.

Afternoon all. Last post got cut short by a phone call. A friend's grandpa has been going down hill for quite a while, and seems he reached the bottom today. Now he's in the big shooting match in the sky, so to speak.
--TK

Ok, disregard that last post. Apparently there was some miscommunication and he's still kicking - though just barely. in ICU, and a machine. We'll see if he makes it through the night.

Buck sorry to hear about the 10th inning loss of the Indians. I went to bed when they covered the infield. Still open they would recover from not playing well. One talking head said, Today is the first day of Winter in Cleveland.
Been going to physical therapy for my lungs twice a week- feeling a bit better now.
Today after i feed the chickens abd get the eggs i'm headed to Auburn for the day.

Morning all.
I think we may have a touch of frost this morning. It's still too dark to see outside right now, and I'm not getting out from under this blanket I have to get a light. ::)
Toast and egg for breakfast today. I must say, I really like having these fresh eggs to eat in the mornings. Just about makes putting up with the chicken smell worth it.
Here's what actually happened with the grandpa. He did die, but they brought him back. And as of 11pm local time, he was in ICU and on a machine, though he was breathing on his own. He responds to some things, like his wife speaking, but not the doctor. They're thinking that it will probably be today. Just about the worst part is the waiting, though.

Had light rain off and on today. Big wig from corporate was in the park today. We worked on a light post today that started out as a simple change the eye( photo cell), turned into pull the post, work on lengthening the cable, a stuck screw( needed to borrow an impact drill to get it loose), restrip some wires, replant the post, and get the stupid head to set on the pole correctly. ::) :P
We've also had trouble with PAR 38 spot lamps not lasting very long. We've been changing some fixtures over to LED, but some just don't lend themselves to change over without being a rather large project. So....... i suggested finding if they are making an LED sub lamp for said fixtures. Found some tonight at Menards and bought a two piece package with my own money to try as an experiment. Will put one in tomorrow to start it ::)
-
Buck,
The Par 38 have been going down hill for the last 10 years, do not get near the bulb life we used to. The Led work but do not have the throw unless you up the watts. Good Luck

I'll stir the coals and heat the coffee for the night guys. ::)
Not much going on in my part of California today, except keeping the dog entertained. I tried breeding the rabbits today, but the doe wasn't keen on the idea right then, so have to wait a few more days and try again. The classiest (read most expensive. $50 for a plate of scrambled eggs) restaurant in town buys local meats, and will pay up to $25 a pound for rabbit. We'll see.

Some how the first part of this post could be interpenetrated more than one way. :-X
The second says go for it, make the money, but don't pay $50 for scrambled eggs.

Thanks for the info Old Top. The ones I'm starting with are 75 watt, but are the daylight type. they don't have to cover a large distance. The first one is at the entrance to our pump house illuminating the doorway. The second I put up does the same at our sewer plant building door. I just need four more and I'll have that building and the one that covers the parking area out front at the mail boxes done.
Doc's appt. went well Saturday ,my A1c is down another .3 points. Other tests are good. Doc the elder will be gone on my next appt., he's turning the practice over to his son and will just be covering nursing home patients. He was a good guy to work with and has a pretty good sized practice ::)

Coffee is ready. Cool and wet today. Back at my desk this week. Last week was spent in a meeting for hazard review of a new process...very taxing on the nerves. Now...I have to "catch up" on my regular work.

It was nice here today, mid 60's and sun.We got a recalcitrant pole lamp fixed( we hope). Had to pull it and run new wiring. People weren't home when we finished, so will have to wait until tomorrow to see if the old head is going to work. Hasn't for quite some time ::) :P

Sounds problematic, Buck.
My ballot is cast, and now I'm worrying about catching a $75 dollar rabbit. :o We're watching our friend's house/animals while they're down with their grandpa (who they are "unplugging" at 10pm local time), and they lost one of their breeder does this morning, so I've been setting traps and chasing it all day. quite interesting.

Got a really large raccoon in the live trap last night. Been raining off and on all day. The electrical contractors just about had the cable replacement job done today when they hit a water line. still without water at the moment. Haven't been past the scene of the crime for a while. Last time I was, the site engineer was down in the hole up to his knees in mud ::) :o :-\

Evening all.
It's been an interesting day in the kitchen today. I made a loaf of bread this morning, then just finished mixing up a second about ten minutes ago. The first loaf took about 30 minutes to knead completely. Not to mention 6 hours to rise. But, it turned out really well.
The second took about 10 minutes to mix, and now needs 18 hours minimum to rise at low temperature. But tomorrow I'm going to make some stuff with it.
For leavening I used Guinness Stout to make a Barm, then a sponge out of the barm fluid. First loaf turned out great. ;D
Still haven't convinced my breeding rabbits to breed, or caught that other rabbit.

We don't have any sort of political "protests" up here. Mostly a bunch of Democrats who held their nose and voted the Dem ticket, but they're mostly old people who are smarter than that. ::)

Well, that was interesting. I just got done setting up a new spot in our chicken fortress. A friend and I were out popping off some 12 gauge shells into mushy pumpkins, and we kept hearing something in the bushes next to us. Finally, our curiosity got the better of us, and we went to check it out. Turned out to be a chicken. ???
We pulled it out of the bushes and brought it home, so now we have a 3-4 month old Sussex pullet. She's a friendly little bird, fell asleep in my friend's lap on the ride home.

Sunshine and 37 degrees, was supposed to get down to 32, but looks like it didn't. Decided to forgo sitting in a cold tree this morning, since I already got one hanging. Got some kind of a cold bug anyway, most likely brought home by a first grader. Finally gave in and built a fire this morning.

Chilly day today. When I looked at the thermometer at 8:15, it said 31. Then at 9:15 it said 60. Rained off and on, mostly off. S**w above 8000 feet. Weird weather for certain. ::)
From my house we can see one particular ridge that's about 7200 feet, and there was a pretty decent landslide up there today. Took out several acres of forest, by the looks of things. On a good summer day it's a 2 day hike to get there, so I won't be looking any time soon.
To top off the oddities, in the last few hours I seem to have suddenly come down with something. Light fever and general not feeling good. Hopefully it clears up tomorrow.

Working around the yard today. Moved about a cord of wood, sawed up about that much (side note: electric chainsaws are terrible at sawing wood), and restacked it all. Most of it is still too green to burn, but we have enough to at least cut the heating bill in the mornings.
Next up, we have to make a dump run, then seal the roof of the chicken coop. Supposed to get evil white stuff, and 30 mph wind, so the roof needs to be in better shape.
--TK

You sawed a cord of wood with an electric chainsaw in a day? Must have been pretty much dawn to dusk job.
I like my Husqvarna for that job.

Good luck chasing those Chinese chickens, Slim. Don't envy that sn** and I** at all. Clear and sunny here, lot of wind yesterday, but calm today. Started out just below freezing here. Perfect hunting weather, A group of does walked by my tree stand a little before 8:30, I got 2. Tagged out on free landowner tags, not sure if I'll buy any more. Still 3 days left of regular firearms season, a short 3 day antlerless only first weekend of Dec., then the "alternative methods" season after Christmas. That's basically anything except cartridge rifle or shotgun. Muzzle loaders, Centerfire handgun, air guns, spears...... just no cartridge rifle or shogun.

Out early to sling some lead, many apparently had the same idea, Range was crowded by 10AM.
Stop in at the Toy store , and grabbed a coupla more Magazines, then got Chicago dog & Ice tea... all in all a good start on the day.

Probably no toy store visits soon for me, pretty much blew that budget before Nov 8, but at least I have a better stock of powder and primers now. And a Ruger LCP, ready for our new "Constitutional Carry" law to take effect after the first of the year.

saw 5 does the other night up in the "new" section of the park the other night when making a check the lights run. my associate saw a 6 pt. buck along the sewer plant fence end of last week, a doe was on the opposite end of the fence at the same time. The assoc.'s Dad has been getting quite a few road kills in the last couple weeks, some were very large bucks. Gun season starts here the week after Thanksgiving, probably only one week in this county. Wearing a LOT of orange at the moment ::)
-
I was a most of the day job with the chainsaw, yes.
We have the white stuff above 5000 here. 1 inch down low to 2 feet on the mountains. I won't be making many trips up there until next spring. ::)
Raining pretty good down in town, which is annoying because I have to walk to take care of a friend's animals. It's only a half mile, so it's too close to drive, but far enough to get you wet. :-\
--TK
-
Found a few minutes for lead slinging, the new LCP's first shots.
Shot 15 rounds, function was perfect, accuracy was "minute of pizza box*". 10 rounds standing at 7 yards, then five from 20 yards, 2 handed with a rest under my elbows. Recoil was barely noticeable standing. But when you have a solid rest under the elbows, the physics of an 8oz pistol shooting a 380 becomes....apparent.
Edit: Note to self: need a bigger tarp, most of the brass missed an 8x10 tarp. Ejection is rather energetic.
-
I was comparing an LC9 to a Shield a week or two back. One definitely notices the lighter pistol!
They're forecasting white stuff in town tonight. We have to drive to the city tomorrow morning. Over a mountain pass. On brand new pavement. Sounds fun...
--TK

Morning y'all.

Congrats on the LCP, Pony Express. I've been thinking of getting a lighter CC pistol.

Night pot on the coals.
Trip over the mountain was uneventful. None of the white stuff that low. Up on the mountains I heard a forest service fellow saying there was 18 inches and more.
We're in fall turkey season right now. I've got a lead on a flock, so I might toss a breadhead on the ol' recurve and try to poke one. I don't know, though. We've already got 4 birds in the freezer, and one on the wing. Three of the frozen birds are over 40 pounds each. :o But still...
I'm working with the dog too, Slim. SO far, about all she's figured out is how to sit when food is involved. It's a start. ::) Though, when I take her for walks around the woods near the house, she does point when we flush quail. And she's good at tracking, even without training.

Smoked a Turkey, made green bean casserole , "She" did the Mash "real' taters ( not box flake stuff ) and stuffing ( which in fact I didn't stuff the bird with , used two "cuties " [small orange] instead ) and a spiral ham was procured.
Clone did the pumpkin pie from scratch .....all in all a fine Thanksgiving ...hoping you all had the same fine day... :)
The funny part was , weeks ago we had decided NOT to do a big deal meal, figured to go out ..several ideas were bantered about ...
I wanted Texas de Brazil... "SHE" nixed that one ::) Clone said "Kobe' " Stake House ( I would have said "cool" but I was not include in that discussion , never been to Kobe' ) but they ruled it out...
Suggested Red Lobster , but , Hmmm both said " not ! thanks giving enough :-\
So, "SHE" decided :-X ( that happens ) :P read the first paragraph again ;)

Cured ham, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, cressent rolls, corn bread dressing (stuffing), pumpkin and pecan pies. Since we didn't have turkey, I didn't have to do any cooking.
Today is my 5th wedding anniversary with my favorite wife....black Friday...and the wedding was originally on a black Friday. I have a couple of guns that I've done some work on and need to do a shake down on.. '51 Navy to that eating caps, and a Spencer carbine that I've reduced the trigger pull on..hopefully, I've fixed the problems. No matter what, it is a great day...I'm a lucky man!

Had turkey and the fixings yesterday, and I didn't have to cook! Neighbor's had us over, I did bake a cake to take over. a yeller one with chocolate icing, been a long while since I had yeller cake ;)
Did the rounds this morning and got break, didn't have to waste the plant( numbers too low), the numbers on the chlorinator were up( good), plus the furniture from the club house was in the way( wedding reception tomorrow) so I can't clean the chlorinator anyway. Wasn't going to risk getting any of the acids or chlorine on the furniture( bad outcome). Just repositioned the bucket covering the water line from the torn down home( we insulated it a week or so ago, but the bucket covering the job wouldn't balance on it's own). Three small bricks fixed the problem ::)

Happy Day after... Hope none of ya foundered too badly. Had ate a little too much myself. But wanted to taste what everyone put efforts into.
Now back to the farm last night on a full belly. The 2 hour drive seemed like 10. The dogs thought i abandon them, and the chickens all went back on the roost with out my assistance. I gathered eggs this morning and did a head count. (Yeah got chickens and some pullets both but at least it ain't them stinking woolies >spit!< Raina and Arwyn did their morning perimeter check and reported nothing. Now back to work this afternoon.
It is still in a drought conditions here no measurable rain in over 60 days. I was surprized Black Powder hunting was permitted this year, or at least post poned for a short period. Our first freeze came earlier this past week but since has warmed up.
Hay will be in short supply by January. Glad i am not feeding a horse or cattle any longer.

12-8 yesterday, middle 6 hours by myself, ate braunsweiger samwhich for supper, niece and nephew worked also, we're doing Sunday, and I made it so others didn't have to work. Even chased the boss out early.

Morning all. Went to do my pushups this morning and decided Nope. Still too much food in the stomach in a state of semi liquefaction for complex movements. ::)
Spent most of yesterday and the day before doing food related things. Ended up with a bowl of candied yams, green bean casserole, turkey gravy and 14 pounds of turkey. Then, right before we were going to sit down, someone asked where the mashed potatoes were. :o Instant potatoes aren't the best, but we ate them anyway.
For desert, we had a layered chocolate pudding thing, an apple pie and pumpkin pie.
In other news, when I went to go let the birds out, I found that the older birds had been picking on the new chick. SO she's inside now with a nasty head wound. The bleeding is stopped, and we have it soaked with disinfectant, but she is temporarily an inside dweller.
The wound is in such a place that we think it was the turkey that did it. Stupid turkey has been getting all the hens in that place, but they've been able to get away. That bird will be gone on the first sunny day we get.

Coffee on the brew.
Chicken is still inside, but the wound is starting to seal up.
Hopefully going to go thump a jackrabbit or two later today above s**w level.

Cloudy and upper 40's here, don't think it's gonna make it to the forecasted 50 today.
-
Sun actually showed up today, didn't help the air temp, though ::)

Morning y'all.
Coffee is hot.
Got home 'bout 18:30 last night.
'Tis 39 and misting. "Cloudy. A chance of light rain in the morning...Then rain showers likely and a slight chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs in the middle 40s. Southeast wind 10 to 20 mph with gusts to around 30 mph. Chance of rain 70 percent."

Afternoon, ladies and germs. ::)
The fluffy white stuff came down all the way to town Saturday night. Nothing was able to stick, but about 50 feet above us got about 2 inches. The mountains were pure white, but I didn't manage to get a picture because all of the cameras in the house were dead. Oh well.
Plan for today: not let the dog destroy everything, possibly followed by butchering a turkey.

Rained off and on.
Having ground venison, elbow mac, and pasta sauce for supper.

Deer season started today. Did hear some guns going off close to the sewer plant this morning. ::)

2-10 today, off the next two days, maybe. ::)

Got close to 60 here today. Ended up putting magnetic catches on the cupboards in the "sow's ear". Couldn't really see the need as the cupboards had spring loaded hinges. However, our's is not to reason why, just do it ::) :P

Yup. Sure does.

In the low 60's this morning, and it isn't expected to warm up much at all. Looks like some rain is coming, too.
The cool temps and rain (in moderation for course!) are welcomed.

I'm here, don't have to be to work till 4pm Friday.

Afternoon all.
Well, seems most of my family is down with a stomach bug. My siblings are both bedridden, with fevers. My mom was okay this morning, but as the day progresses she's heading down hill. My dad is not feeling great, but he went to work this morning, with the expectation of coming home after lunch. Then there's me. I've sealed myself in my room with the door shut and a can of Lysol. I'm not taking any chances I don't have to. ::)
I was supposed to have a job interview today, but the interviewer came down sick. So now my interview is next week. SO, I might go hunting today. I've got a flock of doves patterned out, and they're calling to me. :P
