I have, for several years, had an Itch.
I saw pictures of a Black double strong side rig where the holsters were lined with Bright Red leather. Stitching was also done with a
Bright Red thread.
Anyone have a WAG (Wild A$$ guess) on the availability and cost of enough Bright Red leather to make the interior of a pair of
double strong side holsters??

Tandy shows this leather on their web site...not sure if this is bright enough. Seems like I've seen splits in red as well at their stores (I'm fortunate enough to have two stores in my area).

They also have red dye, but I don't have any experience with it to know how it looks when used.

My experience with red dye is that it comes out just about the way that lambskin you linked to looks. At least with Lincoln dye, which is what I've used for red.

Have you got images of the actual shade of "Bright Red" you are looking for?
I know the colors may not show up quite the same on the computer image, but it may help?
My best,

To line holsters you won't need much. I'd check with local upholstery shop for red scraps. It will be chrome tanned, but I have used it for all of my money belts and have had no problems. I haven't lined a holster with it.

I think you would be just as well off to make the holster out of veg tan inside and out, and dye the inside leather red. For one thing you can use your normal leather and split weights.
Probably the holster you are refering to is Will Gohrmley's Flames of Hell. Ironically the work up on this holster was designed to suggest the user was the kind of person to be impressed by cheap fanciness over solid quality. However in the movie the character was about as frivolous as the black death. As a result, many people have been drawn to this holster, and many very cool versions have been produced. The original was lined with suede, I think. The best version I have seen is the one Kid Terico did which was lined with dyed veg tan. I feel sure some other great versions have graced these pages.

Most of soft predyed that I see colored that way is chrome tanned. If you use this it's probably advisable not to leave the gun stored in the holster for long periods. I've heard all kinds of negatives about chrome tanned and guns although I have never witnessed that myself.

SCORE!!
Thanks to Major 2. One of his links led directly to a vendor whom had on hand, a full sheepskin 5 oz for a reasonable in very bright RED.
I JUMPED ALL OVER IT. I don't know if it was Veggie or Chrome tanned. I guess I find out when I receive it. Either way, it's going
into a set of custom holsters for my Snubbies!!!!
