Title: Browning 1886 SRC
Post by: MJN77 on April 11, 2013, 05:48:21 PM
What is the general opinion of the Browning (Miroku) 1886 saddle ring carbines? I bought a "like new" one off of gunbroker that I pick up tomorrow. I have a new Winchester (Miroku) 1886 short rifle that I like very much. Just wondering if there is much difference between them other than the goofy safeties on the Winchester.

I love mine 8) 8)

I had to have the tang drilled for a tang sight, but that's no trouble.  One year in Alberta, I won the long range side match with it.  And at that I had to aim at a particular treetop on the ridge behind to hit the 400 yards target.  I had carefully charted the trajectory and knew how high to hold.  IMHO you have made a great buy.

It is great to carry, but I found that with a 400 grain cast bullet an MV of about 1400fps was about max for comfortable shooting.  As a cooincidence, that is my MV with 75 grains of Goex FFg.
