I found this link to California militias for those that are interested

Not all of the of the units have pages, but I found the names of the units pretty neat, might help with some research.

Thanks for the link, Scout. I just bought a book called "Gold Dust and Gunsmoke: Tales of Gold Rush Outlaws, Gunfighters, Lawmen, and Vigilantes," that covers that same era. I've never studied the gold rush period, but after reading posts on The Plainsmen board by some of our members like Dave, Wadd, and others, I'm becoming more interested in it all the time.
