Title: Colt Thunderer/Lightning Question
Post by: Capt. John Fitzgerald on July 08, 2010, 04:55:36 PM
Greetings!
Is there any difference in the overall frame/grip sizes of the 1877 Colt Thunderer (.41) and Lightning (.38) revolvers?
Just acquired a Lightning and I don't have a Thunderer around to compare it to.
Doing a bit of research on the 1877, I discovered that there were also a very limited number of them made in .32 caliber.  They were called "Rainmakers."
Thanks,
CJF

Same size.  None of the names was used by Colt.  Later collector nomenclature.  In 40 plus years of looking at Colt's, I have seen only one Lightning in .32.  Than was back in 1984.  Out of my price range then.  Can't imagine what it would go for now!
