Gordon Macrea was in Oklahoma.   Joel is the Movie Cowboy.

Hey, I was born in Nebraska, but only because the modern Kansas hospital was full. Am I famous enough???

You're thinking of Gordon MacRae, who was not born in Nebraska.(He did die here, though.)
Neither is Joel McCrae a native son.
