I see CDNN is having a blowout sale on Laramies in .38 Spcl. I wonder if Uberti is dropping the model. ??? I've heard sales have not been good for this particular model.
Haven't heard anything, but it wouldn't surprise me -- especially the .38s. Can't imagine they have been very popular.
Should be start a list (petition) of people who would buy a Laramie in .44 Russian.
I'll be first.
Books
Well, I certainly wish mine were in .44 Rusky (my favorite pistol cartridge) rather than .45LC. Sadly .45 and .38 were the only calibers offered.
Let me rephrase that.
Who would buy a Laramie in .44 Russian? [or could we convince Beretta to compromise and make it in .44 Special?]
Books
If they can't sell them in .38 Special or .45, they sure aren't going to sell enough in .44 Russian to make them profitable. I love .44s, but no one makes them because virtually no one buys them. Beretta made a marketing mistake. The only people that are going to buy reproduction S&W No. 3s are primarily cowboy action shooters. They put an adjustable rear sight on the Laramie and that put it in Modern category. Most people that shoot these are going to want to shoot them in traditional, duelist, or one of the BP categories. Since they can't, a handgun with very limited appeal had even less appeal.
Not being a SASS shooter, I'm not familiar with all of the classes and restrictions.
The sights on the Laramie are nearly identical to the "target sights" on the original New Model 3. They really are no more adjustable than any dove-tailed sight. [Maybe a little bit easier.]
If SASS won't recognize these as "traditional," then I see the problem. So they are in the same class as a Ruger Blackhawk?
If SASS would reclassifiy the Laramie, then the log jam might break.
Oh well; if Beretta discontinues them, mine will be worth more money. ;D
Books
Unfortunately, (cause I wanted a pair) last year, the Territorial Governors voted against allowing the Laramie to be shot in the fixed sight categories.

What Pettifogger said ,plus the fact that they dont work well with blackpowder,at least more than three or so rounds. Adios Sgt. Jake
Fortunately, NCOWS isn't hamstrung with that particular ruling. As Books mentioned, the Laramie's rear sight is a virtual dead ringer for the 19th Century target sight used by S&W on the New Model No. 3. As it is correct to the period, it's OK for NCOWS.
Guess I fail to understand this (IMHO) hypocritical SASS ruling. SASS permits short-stroking rifles and revolvers, turning SAA barrels for windage, gun configurations that never existed until the late 20th Century and on and on ad infinitum, but relegate the Laramie's period correct rear sight to the "Modern" category. Makes no common sense to me.
SASS is a fine outfit, but that is a ridiculous decision from where I sit.
Shoot your own game, Irish Dave!! ;D :D ;) (Tongue in cheek!!). SASS is chock full of anachronisms, that's for sure.

Well, it's been quite a while since I shot a SASS match, so I guess in my own way, I
am "shooting my own game."Those of us lucky enough (IMHO) to live near an NCOWS club don't have to worry about such things. ;)
Certainly, NCOWS may not be perfect either, but we've been working on eliminating these kinds of inconsistencies for a while now -- much to our benefit, I believe.
Remember, the "Laramie" may be shot in any age based SASS catagory.
Well, If they did make em in .44 Russian, I'd surely have to have at least one of them.
I've left several messages on their webpage to this effect.
I'm pretty sure I could shoot any SASS category I wished with one of these...except maybe "ladies"...well, OTH, If I "dressed" appropriately, they might let me anyway. Folks around here are pretty laid-back...even let me shoot my #3 Smith DA.
Slim
OK, I'll bite what's the CDNN blowout price on their Laramies. The new catalog just say CALL.

QuoteShould we combine the Traditional and Modern categories and then split
this combination into two age-based categories, with the age breaks being
at 17 and up / 36 and up? This would give us age-based categories for all
ages. All age based categories would allow the use of all SASS legal
firearms, propellants and shooting styles except Gunfighter.
This has passed

This would result in the Laramies being allowed most all catagories
Sounds like a good move to me.
I have an original Smith #3 in 44 Russian, which model the Laramie emulates.. (They should make it in that caliber, and lose the target rear sight). It doesn't like black powder much like the modern made clones, so it must be generic. However, being what it is, and made when it was, I must use black powder to shoot it, as well as an original Russian I have.

The aging eyes like the target sights; but I would definately amen the addition .44 Russian to the line.
Books
SASS changed the rules for Traditional and Modern and basically combined them and created two new age based categories. Adjustable sights are still not legal for duelist or any of the black powder categories.
