Howdy,
I just got my Spiller and Burr replica home and had a couple of questions that maybe some of the pards would have an answer too.
There is no manufacturer name stamped on it.
It has Spiller and Burr stamped on the top of the barrel.
Cal 36 black Powder Only on the right side of the barrel.
Made in italy on the left side of the barrel.
I am attaching a couple or three pictures of other markings on it.
It looks like potentially a XXX date code on it... but instead of being stamped it looks scribed.
Any thoughts on date of manufacture or maker?

Pietta makes them. I have no idea what's up with the date code.

XXX is 1974 and the Diamond is the mark assoated with F.LLI Pietta
usualy a single Diamond with FAP within ... I've seen and defarbed early Pietta's with the double diamond.
The gun looks in good shape for a 34 year old gun

It IS in great shape for a 34 year old pistol... It has never been fired.
I had suspicions of it being a pietta, just wasn't positive.

Had it `bout 10yrs now .......... chopped the barrel and put a better front sight on it I shoot 21gns Holy Black No signs of stretching!!
I reckon provided that you stick to Real Black Powder you will have no problems with it!!

Major 2, Are you sure the Double Diamond is an early Pietta Mark? I have been trying to identify this mark for over 6yrs without success. If you are correct then you have solved another of the mysteries of the manufacturer codes on the replica revolver
Members, please, please go to the RPRCA web site and look at other marks not yet identified for manufacturers.
More info on the Spiller & Burr replicas. Palmetto also made Spiller & Burr replicas for Dixie Gun Works. We have one of these in our collection. Also, another big mystery manufacturer of the Spiller & Burr is L.A. Jensen of Lake City, Florida. This is an American made replica which is of most excellent quality. The Brass frame appears to be more Bronze and much harder than the brass found in the Italian replicas. We have a double gun cased set with Serial #0026 & 0027. Also, these are in .44cal. rather than .36cal. If anyone knows anything about L.A. Jensen of Lake City, Florida please pass it on.
The "overstrike" on the date code is somewhat common on the Italian replicas since these are done by hand. The "XXX" is 1974.

Palmetto Arms uses a Palm in a Circle...
I know the Spiller & Burr was Pietta it was NIB... however I can't remember if it was from Navy Arms or Dixie.
I seem to remember a gunsmith who's shingle said Jensen at Olustee... I never knew he made Spiller & Burrs
He was in the Suttler area, and repaired guns for the reenactors.
Olustee is the major battle annual reenactment just 18 miles from Lake City, though he would turn up in the 80's I don't think he was there in the 90's or later...
But I'll inquire with The Blue Grey Army the sponsors.
In the mean time would you post a photo or two of your Jensen S&B ?

Double Diamond is the logo of the now defunct Italian replica maker MOFRA from Brescia.
