Identification of a Hat, Vera Cruz, 1914
« on: August 16, 2013, 01:22:40 PM »
I'm interested in attempting to replicate this impression.  I've got a handle on the shirt, breeches, shoes, and putees.  The hat I'm not sure of.  I'd appreciate help in IDing it.

This is the photo:

I'm looking at LCDR Keating, the officer on the left.  What type of hat is he wearing?

Thanks, in advance, for any help.

Looks like the old Model 1889, with a deeper crease.

Remember, Officers had a fairly generous 'wear-out' period for their uniforms, and on campaign, their most comfortable stuff was worn - while their Dress uniform may well have been up-to-date.

In his autobiography, when MacArthur returned from the Philippines prior to WWI - he mentions having to re-crease his Campaign Hat to better conform to the newly-issued, quite popular 'Montana Peak'.

Stylistically, he'd been away from the flagpole...

Be a booger to do.It looks to me like the one hand style, the feller on the right wearing a more pointed crown, there was a time when hats looked more witch or pointed, even festus had one on a couple episodes of Gunsmoke and you ain't gonna put a crease in those,i have a replica hat of Festus i mad hangin on the wall.

I don't see that he has a crease in it..
Bunch a ole scudders!
