Title: Krag Carbine
Post by: S. Quentin Quale, Esq. on January 21, 2018, 08:42:33 AM
I'm sitting at the Smokey Mt. Gun Collector's show at the Kerbela Shrine in Knoxville and there is a nice Krag Carbine, Serial 110xxx for an asking of $450.00.  Not being an expert I can't be sure it's not a cut down but looking at examples from other sources it looks original and is in good (layman's term) condition.

Look at the front sight - if it slips over the muzzle, like that of an '03 - it's a cut-down piece.

Originals were silver-soldered and the join blends with the barrel's contour.

The rear sight should have a 'C' on the sight base, as well.

Is there more?

Certainly - but this is fast enough for now.

Good Luck!

Scouts Out!

Just looked again.  Front sight is similar to the 03 sitting next to it.  Didn't look further.

Thank you for the Short Course!!!  :)

Though $450 is not a bad price for a cut down if in otherwise good condition.  S&S has sight bases and blades,  original carbines usually start in the $2000 range.  My GAF Krag carbine is a cut down.

For the price I could tell it was a cutdown.  However, the price is not bad for a cutdown.  Mine is cut down and I think I paid about that about two years ago.  Forgot to say that the price is ok as long as it is in good condition.

Thanks for the answers.  Didn't buy anything.  Saving up for other stuff!
