Through trial and error, I think I finally hit on the right design. Two layers of 5-6 oz leather, foam padding with soft suede cover for a slip resistant surface, and full length stitching. Length is 35" +/-. Shown with optional cartridge loops.

Well, that looks like it will certainly work well. Nice design, pard.

Nice work! Great design.
I've used soft foam padding that I got at Home Depot for the pad. It has sticky surface and is used for piping insulation. I covered the entire shoulder pad with this and covered it with a pig-skin suede. It was tough to sew (by hand). I like your design with the smaller pad insert and the leather surrounding it...nice design. I may borrow the idea.... ;D

Thank you Gents. It is much the same sling I've shown before, with the biggest change being the back. I was using 2-3 oz veg tan, and only doing the ends to hold down the suede and foam. That turned out to be a nightmare as a lining. The heavier leather back actually solve a few problems though. It took a little bit to get the suede to fit the cut out just right. Troy, feel free to take this and run with it.
