Springfield Navy Rolling Block

I posted this over on the BROW forum and haven't received any answers yet.  I've got a chance to trade for/buy a Springfield Navy Rolling Block with a very nice bore.  I realize it's difficult to say without seeing it, but does anyone here have any idea of what one of those should go for?  It's just a good, honest rifle with a really nice bore, with no major problems.  The rear sight leaf is broken, and the cleaning rod isn't correct.  Thanks!

If this is what I think it is, then they were made up with M1863 Springfield "Type II" parts on a rolling block action.

In the condition you describe and with no serious external pitting and nice markings,  I would say it's worth at least $800 and anything under that is a good deal.

In my Marine longarm collection, I only need three more guns - a 50/70 Navy rolling block rifle is one of them - sounds like this may be a serious score!

I can't say I know much about them other than I like them!  This one has the intact bayonet lug under the barrel, which I understand is relatively rare.  The rear sight leaf is also broken, but fortunately good reproductions are available.  Let me know any good info on the Navy Rolling Blocks you might have!

I have seen Navy Rolling Blocks in 50-70 go for 700.00 - about 1,000.00 in Virginia.

The one I saw that was 1,000.00 I handled personally and blueing was intact, pristine bore and a correct rod and bayonet.

The 700.00 the outside finish was poor but wood was good and the inards were great (great bore).

I liked the one that had obviously been used but taken care of - but a rifle with correct rod and bayonet for what we do all in one purchase is pretty cool too.

I'd love to find one with the bayonet and rod, especially in that condition!    Wish I would have known about that one.  I'm trying to put together  an 1874-1880 Marine impression.  It depends on what uniform I can put together.

I might have opportunity to revisit the mostly antique gunstore in Middleburg VA this weekend - they use to have sunday hours - if they do I will stop in and see what they have still.

CI the hilt looks right but I can not expand the picture like usual.

If i don't this weekend - I will make a point of visiting that sutler after christmas when visiting the folks. I will let ya'll know
