Excellent!

I want to drive out to the Muster since transporting firearms on an airline is not fun. There is also another horseback ride I want to go on the following weekend in Tombstone that I want to do.

To my knowledge, Kayleen ain't shot no friend yet, don't know about foes.

I myself will put in for vacation, & see what happens. Just found out today, I can attend the Dept of Missouri Muster, & NCOWS national.

I traded my call on May 3rd, for Memorial Day weekend so I can attend KVC's 2 gun shoot.

Trap,
how many rifle rounds and how many pistol out of that 45 targets total?

I've scrounged together reloading components enough for 35 rounds for the Vetterli. Should this be enough, assuming I don't embarrass myself terribly?

Pistol rounds are not a problem.
Oh, and any reloads for the pistol written into the stages? I may bring a cap 'n' ball just for fun.

I will bring something for the prize table.

In that case switch me to Militia class please. I'll only plan on missing just the ones I don't hit.

RCJ, if you only have enough Swiss for one stage, I could loan you a Lebel, I'll probably have plenty of ammo, have 160 or so cases for it. After all, 1/3 of Switzerland speaks French!

Title: Round Count for 2013 Grand Muster???
Post by: RattlesnakeJack on September 26, 2013, 12:30:07 AM
Other than RCJ's cryptic question: "how many rifle rounds and how many pistol out of that 45 targets total?" (.... where did the reference to 45 targets come from?....) and Trap's equally cryptic response: "35 should get you through the MAIN MATCH if you don't miss many" .... I have seen nothing about the round count for Muster.

Did I miss something?

I probably have to set out on my journey this coming Monday, so I am busy getting stuff ready, and need to know!  Help!

     GAF Grand Muster entry form...
...Friday will be the long range rifle, and other possible side matches.
Saturday will be the first stage of the main match, skirmish style with knock down targets (around 30 )
Sunday will conclude the main match, Skirmish, (10-15 targets )...
Great to hear that you will be able to make it this year. I have had some of your .303 brass riding around in the pickup for the last year. Don't let me forget to give it back to you.

OBTW you'll be glad to know that I'm using real powder again this year!  ;) You missed it last year.  How's Eben doing? I pray for him every morning.
Title: Re: 2013 Grand Muster
Post by: Trap on September 27, 2013, 10:41:55 AM
Since it is a walk through/no miss match, round count is a tough call, there will be approx. 50 targets to knock down in the main match. 30-35 rifle 15-20 pistol. So # of misses is the unknown factor. Long range match requires 10 shots. EOE (short) side match, 15-20 rounds P&R.  Hope this helps.   jt

In case you missed the separate post, the Sat. eve Festivities will be indoors.

So will the long range match be the same format as last year (10 alternating shots on 2 steel targets) or will it be something different (such as a paper target)?

Jerry, Ebin is doing incredibly well ..... undoubtedly due in no small part to the prayers of folks like yourself!

From being first diagnosed with leukemia on September 21, he immediately went into an eight-month intensive treatment program, with the result that the theme of his birthday party  this year was "I'm Three and Cancer Free!"  This story just appeared in the local newspaper today - http://medicinehatnews.com/news/local-news/2013/09/disney-world-wish-coming-true-for-hat-youngster/#.UkWPfREWd0M.facebook (http://medicinehatnews.com/news/local-news/2013/09/disney-world-wish-coming-true-for-hat-youngster/#.UkWPfREWd0M.facebook)

I'm not too worried about the .303 brass - I have buckets full of it, and it only seems to hold out for about 4 reloads, at best, anyway ....  Good to hear you are using "real gunpowder" this year!
(Mind you, is "really real" or merely one of those dad-blasted "substitutes"?   ;)  )

I look forward to seeing everybody - any updates available on registrations, Books?

It's "really real". I never had much success with the subs.

How are you doing Steve?

I'm OK. I came through the surgery better than anyone expected & I'm healing up from that. Been back to school for a couple weeks but haven't put in a full week yet. Had to take today off to start another round of chemo. Spent a little over 5 hours at the hospital & have to wear a pump till Sunday, then do it again in a couple weeks.  I'm optimistic - I'm thinking maybe next year I can make it to muster instead maybe next year I'll still be around.

En route back to Canada following a successful foray into the breakaway colonies to the south,  ;).

Overnight bivouac at Grand Island, Nebraska Territory.  Will make two more long forced marches to ensure arrival at home base in good time to permit preparation for immediate heavy action against assorted hostiles and outlaws (local fall two-day CAS shoot this coming weekend) but will report as soon as time permits and my batman's photographic images have been received,

That would be the Expansion Era!  I've been shooting an '03 for a 1914 Marine impression.  They work great with cast bullets!

Title: Re: 2013 Grand Muster
Post by: RattlesnakeJack on December 13, 2013, 12:25:59 AM
Just to clarify what the others have said, an '03 rifle can be used in "Expansion Era" side matches (rather akin to Wild Bunch shooting in SASS) but not in the Main Match events.  For those the rifle and handgun must be of "Victorian" design/issue (1900 or earlier) as more exhaustively detailed here: http://www.cascity.com/forumhall/index.php/topic,17271.0.html (http://www.cascity.com/forumhall/index.php/topic,17271.0.html)

One very notable exception to the general "1900 or earlier" Main Match rifle criterion relates to the Mauser, which must be a Model '96 or earlier, apparently because the Model '98, although developed in the 19th century, saw no extensive use before the 20th century, and was still being produced by the tens of thousands into the 1940's .... (Otherwise, GAF events would effectively be opened up to WWI- and WWII-vintage rifles, definitely out of sync with GAF's "Victorian Era" focus.  Of course a Model '98 Mauser is more than acceptable in Expansion Era matches ....)
