Ok Gentlemen it's like this. Starpacker says that if we can get a minimum of thirty prepaid orders they will produce the GAF Medal as shown on their web site.
I for one want one of these medals for my Uniform. If I can spend $250 to $400 for a pair of boots and $350 for the basic uniform, I can spring for $75 for the Medal.
How many of you want to purchase one?
-
Grapeshot,
Things are in the works for another batch. Hold tight. We may be able to get them cheaper...
-
Any recent updates?
-
OK! Now it's December and we haven't heard anything in regard to the GAF Medals. Are there any updates?

Ditto! :)

Ya know what's really annoying about this? I was asked by Cpt Barret to hold off and cool my heels because there were plans in the works to get the GAF Medals made at a lower cost. OK. August to December makes 4 months. Three and a half if you go by the date I started this thread.
Now, I know that everybody has a lot to do, for the GAF, local clubs, national shoots and even heir families. But if you have time to get on the web to post stuff here and elseware in Cowboy Action Shooting sites, then it stands to reason you have the time to flesh out your inquireries to your vendors.
We the troops, would like answers from our leaders. Give us some information every once in a while on this subject and we'll be content to wait.
The ball's in your court now! :(

Grapeshot, et al.,
First, I want to humbly apologize to everyone. I wanted to wait with this news, but will spill the beans now: I have opened a new business and it is already thriving quite well. We are in production with our wares and just found a new, MUCH bigger plant, so my time has been tied up...
When last discussed, the copyright was the only issue which needed to be corrected. From what I understand based on what US Scout wrote before, a copyright needs to be applied for and I think the fee was $20.00, but Scout, correct me if I am wrong. Scout suggested a person on the Command Staff take the copyright, so I am going to ask Scout if he would be willing to do this. If not, Grapeshot, would you take the fore on this? After the copyright is granted, the only thing left to do is have the Medal made...
With the design of the Medal, everything is taken from previous CW era medals, except for the lettering surrounding the middle icons. The font used is obviously a publicly available one, hence I do not think there is anything to worry about with copyright infringement, especially since it was Scotsman and myself who authorized StarPacker to come up with a design, hence the GAF already technically has the copyright on it...
IIRC, Pitspitr had a source who could make the Medal. As such, I request Pitspitr contact his source for a price, effective immediately. Once these two tasks are done, a new Batch could be run immediately.
Pitspitr, Scout & Grapeshot, just keep me in the loop via emule and let us get this done. I fumbled, hence we struggled for a while, so it is time to grab the pigskin and run with this thing...

Capt Barrett,
I will glady apply for the copyright on behalf of the GAF. I'm sure my wife (who is experienced at such things) can help me do what needs to be done.
Nex question - who is going to be producing a new copy of the Medal for us and when can we expect to begin (assuming the copyright process moves along without any difficulty)?

Thank you Cpt Barret. A little information was all i wanted.
US Scout. Thanks for picking up the Copyright end of this.
I remain, Your humble servant,

Sirs, Staff & Etc.,
This Office is pleased to see those mentioned above stand up to the Plate and accept the duties requested. It is this High Standard of Excellence that gives those in the GAF a most Positive image.
I salute you all!

Scout & Grapeshot, et al.,
Whomever get sthe copyright needs to contact either Pitspitr or Malachi. These two gents had separate handles on a production source, though Pitspitr has an American source...
-
Thanks. I will address the copyright issue with my attorney (ie, my wife) and see what needs to be done to accomplish that expeditiously (I've been busy with Boy Scouts the last two evenings), and then work with both Pitspitr and Malachi to see about getting the medal into production.

I'd settle for an up or down response to my GAF application in Nov.
-
Derby-
I'm checking into your status.
You've submitted the application, so you're in the GAF. I just don't know what your GAF number is. When I find out I'll make a posting of all the new joins.

We thank you Sir,

I spoke with my source on Sunday. He said h'ed still be interested in doing them IF we can get the copyright issued cleared up. (For some reason he's averse to being sued ::) ;)) Col. Scout, I believe you said you were planning on coming to the NCOWS convention in Feb. I may be able to have samples by then if we can get all the legal issues cleared up by then.
-
Jerry-
Thanks.
I regret to report that I haven't moved very far forward on this yet. Domestic issues, work, the holidays, and trying to get our absent GAF leadership more involved has occupied much of my limited free time. However, I was just thinking last night that I needed to get the copyright issue resolved ASAP, as well as pursuing out NCOWS posse option.
I will begin execution...

Folks,
I have not been absent. I have truthfully been working from 6AM until 2AM for many weeks now getting my new business up and running. We FINALLY got some new tools and organized the shop for MUCH better flow when working. Our first big project recently went out the door and it will be installed soon...
-
Any update on the copyright issue?
Thanks
-
I talked to my wife (a copyright lawyer) and she told me what needs to be done. Its a pretty straightforward process but I haven't found time to get to it yet. I've several important GAF issues to be addressed - the GAF Medal is one of them - and I'm getting to them as fast as I can find time, which is also one reason why I'm not posting much at The Barracks. My trip to the Middle East didn't help.
We have not forgotten. I hope to get the paperwork submitted before the end of the month.

Good Morning, General;
I am still willing to assist in getting pricing/production when you are ready.
I have the honor to remain,

I am in the process of filling out the copyright forms for the Medal, so that we can then produce it ourselves.
The forms are fairly simple. Its the extensive rules and regulations that I have to wade through that are a problem. Doing taxes is easier - maybe.

As I am a Division Commander, now, I might have to get one of these for promotional purposes.

I am working to get them back into production - at a cheaper cost than before. However, we'll still have to deal with the bureaucracy of the US Government once I get the forms submitted.

Thank you for your continued work on this project.

Here is a photo of the prototype my source made. He has not produced a prototype of the top part with the pin, so I substituted a GAR ribbon top to reflect my position as Dept. Commander. I do realize that I mistakenly sewed the ribbon backwards. It isn't perfect but it gives an Idea what my source is capable of. He has said that He'd like to offer engraving on the back at an additional fee. Even with engraving the final cost should still be considerably less than the original run from Starpacker.
