Title: Sutlers?
Post by: Bow View Haymaker on August 09, 2011, 01:43:36 PM
Been looking for a good cheap tent supplier.  looked at fall creek,  and a couple others.

Anybody heard of these?

Ridge runner is supposed to be pretty good, but that is second hand. I've never actually dealt with them myself.

You might also want to create a search on e-bay. I got my wall tent complete except for poles and the dog tent you slept in complete except for poles for less that the tent fly would cost by itself new

Fraid not.  THis is the one I use, was the best deal I could find, excellent Sunforger Canvas 7' "A" tent.  Wherever you get if from, unless its the simple dog tent, I'd make sure you get the sod cloth.

And heck yes, check ebay, stuff like that comes up now and then!

Wow, $50? That's a lot less than I gave for mine.

Mine originally came from Fall Creek, for whatever that's worth

Thank you for the info.  Are the green scout tents OK or wouldn't they they look funny with the white ones?
I really aprietiate the use of the dog tent Jerry, but I think I will try to find something a bit bigger.  I like the wedge tent design
looks easier to put up than a wall tent.  I tried doing some ebay searches.  just a lot to filter through but I will keep at it.
I might give the Panther people a call.

Anther good company I have always had luck with is Tentsmiths.  One thing I like about them (since this is the "military forum") is they are the only people I know to offer a wedge tent in the proper military specifications!  (I have been told Panther will make it as a custom order).

http://www.tentsmiths.com/period-tents-wedge-1812-usarmy-tents.html

I have seen the original Quartermaster Specifications for US Army "Common Tents" from 1808 to 1944.  This tent is pretty much the US Army tent from 1808-1884 (when they added small walls to it making it a wall tent like officer's used) give or take an inch here and there depending specifically which regs. you are looking at.  Also the army tents had one door with overlap and the mudflaps along the bottom.

Also, a wedge is SUPER easy to put up.  The only tent easier is the pyramid tent.  Stake the four corners down tight and lift the uprights and ridge into place and its done!

Jean at James Country Mercantile in Liberty, Missouri (816-781-9473) sells tents made by the Amish here in Missouri.
