Thanks all for your entertaining and informative replies.  I can already tell I should fit right in.

CAPT John (Long Juan) Soule, GAF (No responsibility or authority!!)
Austin, TX

Decided that moniker should work well, real name and tied to my SASS alias.  Will have to come up with really good story for my alias, I am thinking.

You'll just have to get up earlier than the Texans next time to know for sure.

Y'all be easy on him now.  Bad enough he's fallen in with the Texicans, but he's a newly retired Navy Skipper!  He's still trying to figure out how to get around without a bridge crew.  Probably still got his wife in the back seat with a map and a compass, tellin' him how hard to step on the gas.  "Navigation reccomends come right at the next intersection, make turns for 55 knots . . ."

(Good thing I'M retired . . .  :o  My Fiancee can't figure out why I repeat back everything "Take out the trash, aye!))

Personally, I think it would be great if someone chose to depict, say, a member of the French Chasseurs d'Afrique  or  Deutsch-Südwestafrika Schutztruppen . . . . . .

Hey RSJ, do you have a date for the Schutztruppen pic? I was considering some sort of German impression(since I have a GEW88), but from my admittedly limited research, most of the German troops in Africa were still armed with Mauser 71-84s all the way up untill nearly WWI. So now I'm leaning more towards something German from Boxer Rebellion, Maybe III Seebattallion. I Have seen them armed with 88's in a few pictures.

Y'all be easy on him now.  Bad enough he's fallen in with the Texicans, but he's a newly retired Navy Skipper!

Let us not forget that Texas had its own Navy.  Unfortunately, it falls outside of the GAF time period, but even so....I'm sure the good CAPT will feel at home.

And, Drydock, not only did Texas have a Navy, but they were smart enough to know they needed MARINES to keep the sailors under control!

The county name in my hometown in the Texas Panhandle is Moore County. It is named for Commadore Moore of the Texas Navy.

Ah yes, well, we're a wild bunch.   Still, just run the ship up on a beach and open the doors, and all the marines go runnin' off.  Cain't help themselves . . .

Here now! We'll not be standing for any derogurtory insults about marines.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  And no, regular insults are not acceptable either.
