Guns of the Old West:  single action revolvers, pistol caliber lever action rifles, and old time shotguns (bring whatever you have that‘s close and join the fun).  Your score is your time plus penalties for misses and such.  Low score wins.  An honest effort to dress in appropriate “old west” style clothing is appreciated.  We will be following SASS safety and scoring rules as best we can for the Cowboy Action main match and side matches and GAF battle rifle structer and scoring for the GAF match.  With everyone pitching in everything should run smoothly.

COWBOY ACTION SHOOTING COMPETITION BASICS
*Cowboy Action Shooting is shooting scenarios using firearms that are all of 1899 or earlier in design or manufacture.  This includes rifles, pistols and shotguns.
*Matches are not quick draw contest.
*Cowboy Action Shooting is NOT the place to learn how to shoot. It is where experienced shooters go to play the fantasy of Cowboy Action Shooting.
*The "Spirit Of The Game" is a term we use to describe the honor of the old west, a handshake was your bond and honesty was the rule of the day. It also means the shooter fully participates in what the stage requires.
(Common-sense exceptions are made for those shooters with physical disabilities that hinder participation in certain activities.  For example, a wheelchair-bound shooter is not expected to mount the "horse" in the middle of a stage).
*If in doubt, just remember "WWJWD" (What would John Wayne do?)
*Remember, No target is too close or too big, that it can't be missed.
*Remember, it ain't how good you shoot, it's how good you look shooting and how much fun ya‘ have!

For those that don't know about Crofton, NE:

Upper Missouri Trading Co. is located there and sell several brands of Holy Black.

The Argo Hotel is a historic Bed & Breakfast with single,  double & a couple of sitting room + bed room suits.  It also has a GREAT restaurant with steaks, sea food and full bar!

Doc. Carlson who runs Upper MO. is a former NRA & NMLRA director and supporter of the shooting sports.  A grate gunsmith too.

When I was a Field Rep. for the NRA [77 - 78] I got to know Doc. well and he is the kind of guy you can count on in a pinch.

A great place to stay while you shoot on both days!!  NO, I don't get a kick-back from either business, but am a satisfied customer of both!!

Dr. bob,
I'm glad to hear from someone who actually knows Crofton.  Yes Doc Carlson is well known in the world of the Black stuff. The Argo has a uniqe story of it's own, too long to go into here.  But too bad Bogner's Steak house is gone.
My mother is actually geting excited about cooking for the event.  She loves to feed people, so come hungry.
The area has some interesting history but most of it is just hardworking pioneer families trying to make a go of it on the prarie.
My brother is the historian in the family and will be around to tell soome stories of the area.
BTY he recently had his first book published. "Down To Earth" tells a bit about the Bow Creek Valley
I think there is an excerpt at http://www.downtoearthbooks.com/Down_To_Earth_BookExcerpts.shtml
and more about the old family farm at http://www.bowviewfarm.com/

BVH,

You just made my mouth salivate with the memories of crab legs at Bogners! ;D ;) ;D

For those who can't find Crofton on your map, look for Yankton, SD.  Then look just south and west and there it is.  When I go there from KC, I go up I-29 to SD 50 and west to Yankton.  Take the Highway 81 bridge over the Mighty Missouri and then look for the sign that shows Crofton to the right!  Fastest way to go!! ;D
