2019 Rule modification: Long Range Rifle
« on: July 16, 2018, 12:52:32 PM »
As per the Brigade Staff meeting post 2018 Grand Muster:

Starting with the 2019 Grand Muster,  the Long Range rifle component of the match will be shot with the same rifle as used in the Skirmish runs, with the required exceptions of Handgunner and Forager.

This is largely a reflection of current practice, while hopefully preventing specialization of multiple firearms.  This also insures the competitor is always scored in the correct class.

Generally use the same rifle, this year thought I would mix it up and see how the Mosin Nagant worked, answer not well enough

Hi Chuck

Dang it, I was going to use a Cavalry Krag to shoot Skirmish and an Infantry Krag to shoot Long Range.  The main idea was to not mix lead and copper fouling.  The Carbine is still at Murray's, and the longer one is in the kitchen in pieces.

No problem Mike, I believe lead projectiles will travel 300 yards!

They will indeed.  At winter range we must use Cast but can use Gas Checks in the Bucky Oneil match (military rifles prior to ww1)  One year shot my 03 for record not well, grabbed the Krag just for fun and got all 9 hits 3 each  100 off hand 200 kneeling or sitting and 300 any way you want kneeling sitting or prone, being a grunt I always get down on my belly whenever possible.  Getting up again is not as easy as it once was but that is a different story.

I shoot montana bullet works 210 grain linotype gas checks with enough varget to get approx 2100 fps like the service load.

I took 2nd place one year, using my 1985 Winchester musket, with Trail Boss loads.  Windage and elevation.

That's a myth you know.  Lead bullets are not affected by a moderate amount of copper fouling, and vice versa.  Clean your rifle as you normally would, and it's not an issue.

I'm glad you brought that up...?.I've always switched back and forth, and never noticed the difference.
