This photo was taken after the capture of the "Balangiga Bells" for retribution of the massacre of Co C of the 9th Infantry on the island of Samar, Philippines, 1901. Half of the 74-man company were killed, including all commissioned offices, while they sat at breakfast in the mess hall.
The soldiers are wearing khaki blouses/jackets, but appears many of the men's trousers are darker than the blouses? Perhaps the darker brown duck trousers, or even blue?
I don't know what's going on with the guy in the center, to the right of the flag and bell...photo defect, some weird beard/mustache/sideburns, or is he holding his hands up to his face?
The Bells were returned to the City of Balangiga, R.P. in 2018.
