Title: Well...Looks like I am putting on my Match Director's Hat on again....
Post by: Major Matt Lewis on July 23, 2006, 09:51:02 PM
I got some great news for the GAF.  One of the shooter's at today's GAF Muster in Topeka was the President of The Free State Rangers in Parker, Kansas.  After seening what the GAF Shoot was like in Topeka today, Buffalo Phil was gracious enough to offer us the use of his range in Parker, Kansas in May.  To be more specifically, the third weekend in May.  Now, this GAF Muster will be a SASS shoot under SASS rules, but not breaking with the GAF tradition, we will once again ride into battle with only one rifle and one pistol.

Now, that being said, I am going to run the event as "No Frills" event.  In english, that means that No Sponsorships and No Door Prizes.  I am sitting on the fence about a banquet.  But even if there is no banquet, we will be holding the Best Dressed, so, get them ready.

One thing very unique about The Free State Rangers, is that they offer a shooting catagory that we will honor at the Muster....They offer the Pike Class, named after the William Holden character in The Wild Bunch.  I know that he pistol used for that is a 1911.  There will be further updates.

Give me feedback as to whether we should do the banquet or not.  If there is no banquet, the cost of match fee goes down dramatically.

Bvt Lt Col and Major Matt Lewis,

Well done!

Since you plan this to be a no-frills Muster, it might be an excellent opportunity to conduct it as a Department Mini-Muster, much as put on this past weekend by Chantilly.  There is no limitation to the number of Departmental Musters or other events that can be held.

Makes no difference if the range we use requires NCOWS or SASS rules.  That is only incidental to the overall concept of how Muster stages are shot.

Really glad to hear it Richard.
For me Yours is a good news/bad news post Richard.
The GREAT news is that you're doing it again and will once again represent the Department of the Missouri with the utmost honor.
The bad news is that it is the same weekend as the Nebraska State High School Track Meet. ( Jacob's senior year=I'm not missing it if he qualifies for the 4th time)

By the way, I will be "directing" a department mini-muster in late March or early April here in central Nebr. and may be calling on you for advice. if that's ok.

Currently we're looking at the 2nd Sat. of April, but may move it up as much as 2 weeks.
