Hey DT,  My guess it is probably a one-off.  It would be interesting to know if it has a makers cartouche on the back.  Very nicely made and still in great condition.  The '78 ain't bad either.

Ah, one of my favorite Colt models. All of them I've seen with holsters have been in ones that would fit a SAA as well. I do like that one, though. I'd love to see the back of it, too.

Thank you both for your response , I knew I could count on you guy's .  The style of that holster just say's Old West Real Deal to me . The Colt pictured with it is a fine piece for sure . I have tried the 7 1-2 " 1878 in a well made Full flap holster I have it fits good a bit more snug in the action area than the 1873 Colt  , but think the leather will form fit after a while . After seeing the holster picture ,  I'm thinking I need that .LOL ,,,,DT

That is an interesting piece. I'd like to see the back of it to see the belt loop.

I found the listing and there are photos of both sides of the pistol but only the front of the holster. a search didn't net any photos of similar holsters, either. I suppose we'll have to guess at how the belt loop is attached. It could be stitched on or folded over from the back of the pouch. My guess would be stitched. I would probably make it like a slimjim.

This type holster looks like something a frontiersman would use . Good deep holster for protecting the gun from the dust and grime . I am sure not disputing that the belt loop would be built like you say Marshal  , you guy's know more than me that's why I ask here . I had pictured one with a flat square belt loop sewn / stitched on top and bottom / flat or four cornered copper rivets  . I like the utility look of it , all work and no show   Can you fellows tell if the toe is open or closed ? ,,,DT

It looks like the stitch line goes right around the toe. Since the fold side of that isn't sticking out, I'd guess that it has a toe plug. This photo shows what I'm talking about.

I think too, that it has a muzzle plug.  Definately stitched  at the muzzle, but not at the top end of the holster.  Clear indication that it is unlined, which tells me stitching at muzzle end would be for a plug.

I agree with it having a toe plug.
