Another Holster
« on: January 29, 2020, 05:49:00 PM »
Have to admit to being a lot happier with my 2d holster. I tried really hard to replicate each stitch in order to get a more consistent look, I failed. That being said I have ordered some KS Pricking Irons, an Awl and some smaller needles and Tiger Thread. I also had Gum Trag available for this one and am much happier with my burnishing. Practice makes perfect and I am just getting started.

Looks good. Nice, even stitching. Smooth cut lines. Nice job.

That is very nicely done, very even tooling, and the stitching isn't bad.

As far as burnishing, I use a dab of saddle soap with a damp sponge. Never tried the gum. What are others using?

I've used water, trag and bees wax. Bees wax can be a bear but works good. You have to get it warm to really do the job. Water is easiest but doesn't hold up as well over time. I never seem to get trag quite right. I need to use it more to figure that out because I've seen outstanding results with it.

You did a great job on this Holster especially for your second one.

For burnishing, I use a piece of wet canvas and then I apply a bit of Gum Trag with my finger
You need to learn to like all the little everday things like a sip of good whiskey, a soft bed, a glass of buttermilk,  and a feisty old gentleman like myself
