Any buy one of these belts from WPG?
« on: December 13, 2017, 05:41:48 AM »
https://www.ebay.com/itm/M1876-Cartridge-Belt-for-45-70-Springfield-Infantry-Cavalry-Prairie-Belt-XL-SIZE/232571793353?hash=item36265befc9:g:MJsAAOSw4GVZ3pAG

I am wondering about the size.  He had one listed earlier as a large(now sold out) now he lists it as an XL but it seems to be the same belt, same pics and specs.

I have emailed him but have not gotten a response.

Thanks.

Just call him.  Jerry Lee is usually really good about answering the phone, at least in my experience.  His stuff is very nice quality, too.

Sometimes costs less for an ad to show the same picture as a previous one rather than create new artwork. Just saying...from experience.  The difference between a large and an x-large might simply be the length of the leather tongue. Extra length of the tongue will be tucked in behind the canvas belt body anyway.

I've always been impressed with the quality of WPG stuff.  Years ago I picked up a huge amount of used British kit, original and repro.   I could hardly tell the difference between the original stuff and his stuff.  I never thought about calling him.  I will have to do that.  I think that most of the Indian War stuff is in California where he is anyway.

I'm pretty sure, based on the descriptions that the extra length is in the tongue.  I am wondering how much extra it is.  It does not look like the extra length tucks in behind the canvas, based on the pics anyway.

Yes, that is how it works.

I took a long look a it again, based on your response.  I can see how that would work.  I never had a any belt like that.

How comfortable is it?  Do you trim the excess?

thanks!

I have 2. One is a very accurate reproduction. It's quite a bit smaller and there isn't a lot to tuck in (especially these days. Funny how my clothes and belts keep getting smaller  ::) ) The other is from Cabela's and is for 12 ga. Shotgun rounds. There is quite a bit to tuck in. It isn't uncomfortable that way. I've never cut the excess for fear I might need it someday.  :-\

No matter how high the quality and the material, it has been my experience that clothing, belts, etc., will shrink dramatically after 20+ years!  ::)  The exception is my wife's clothing, which, after she has been doing zumba and nia exercise about five hours a week for the past five years, has actually expanded until she can wear sizes smaller than when she graduated high school!   8) (Some of the clothing she saved has actually come back in style!  ;) )  Saves a lot of money!  ;D

Hi

I noticed that WPG's ebay site was selling Hagner Type 1 and 2 ammo pouches and that they're almost out of the Type 1 (I think).  Did everybody here buy one but me?  Except for the OU Press order I wouldn't have known what they were.

Just received my blue double row mills cavalry belt from WPG.  Far superior product to my old belt, with the rifle loops properly woven into the belt like the originals.  Also 12 pistol loops and a riveted sabre hanger.  Excellent!

Are the pistol loops for .38, or .45?

.38.  I suspect they could be stretched to .45 if need be.
