General apologies
« on: May 10, 2006, 09:32:53 AM »
No pun intended!  :D

My apologies to all for not being more visible at The Barracks this last week or two.

We are getting our house completely replumbed to replace some defective pipes.  As a conseqence, I have to clear out the basement so that the present piping can be accessed by the plumbers.  Since the working party consists of just me, I've been spending almost every free minute going through 20 years of clutter and trying to find a temporary place for what I'm not throwing out.

I have not forgotten about updating the Muster, or submitting the forms for the Medal, or the several other actions I have promised to work on.  Unfortunately, the replumbing requires immediate action on my part, and I've had to put these aside for the time being.  Likewise, unless there is something that requires my immediate attention in The Barracks (or by e-mail or PM), I have deferred action temporarily.  I've also been extremely busy at work (more overtime required than usual) so that has further eaten into my time.  (If anyone is curious, I haven't so much as handled a firearm in a month, let alone gone to the range or shot at a match!)

However, these are all temporary obstacles. With a bit of luck and effort, I will be able to resume work on GAF requirements by Monday.  My apologies for the delay in getting these important issues resolved as quickly as we'd all like.

Sir, if any of that replaced plumbing is lead, throw it in the save pile.  I know hat you mean, I'm rearanging a shed and loading room, object is to get all camp cook gear in one place. ::)  The shed has only been used 9 years, found stuff i ain't seen in 9 years, won't seen it again.

Good Morning, General;

While I am sorry to hear that the General has been placed on temporary Logistics detail, I too am delighted to hear that you will soon have indoor plumbing again.  In the interimn, I trust it will gratify the General to know that the Department of the Pacific is gaurding the General's flank.

I have the honor to remain,

Your Obedient Servant,

General Scout,
do what you've got to do. That's why you've got all us "underlings"... to take up the slack in circumstances such as this. Take care.

P.S. Indoor plumbing IS the way to go.

Everyone should have to use an outhouse at 20 below at least a few times in their life just to show them how good they have it.  Oh and there should be a strong wind and cracks 'tween the boards.

I regret to report that the General's Lady, upon hearing of my promotion to BREVET Brigadier General of the GAF, decided it was time to some indoor plumbing installed.  I tried to point out that my promotion did not come with any raise in pay but to no avail.  Thus, I find myself on a one-man working party shuttling stores from one end of my quarters to another.

Del - can't say I've used an outhouse at 20 below, but I have been "at my ease" in near zero weather.  I was feared for my parts, especially as my hands were near froze and I couldn't tell what they was actually doing...that was a worrisome time to be sure.   As for my sorting, my rule of thumb is that if I didn't remember having it, it goes in the trash (or to Goodwill, etc).  If its one of those "I wondered where that had gotten to" I put it aside to lose again.

Sir, good enough for me, anytime it drops below 10 degrees the reading material in the library goes unused.  Also always keep wasp spray hady in the summer.  Bang on the seat first if there is time, nothing, the pucker factor when the wasp flies out of the ajoining hole is bad for bussiness. :o

We had a Corporal Major in my outfit - he transferred out before he got promoted, so I missed out on all the fun of that...

My uncle had a dog named "Jennie" once - short for "General Nuisance"

Yes, there was indeed a "Captain America" - he retired from the USMC in the mid-70's I think (as a LtCol by then)

Last but not least, we had a Captain (who shall otherwise remain nameless) in our Squadron who was single, and a pilot.  He really liked racking up his flight time, so anytime there was a ferry flight, air show static display, check flight, or cross-contry flight for any reason, he'd volunteer for it.  Our parachute riggers (they maintain all the flight clothing and equipment) made him up a special nametage for his flight suit/jacket.  There below his Naval Aviator wings was his name - "Max Perdiem        TAD Pilot"  He thought it was so cool, it was the only nametag he wore from then on.

I knew a Captain Major, who eventually became a Lieutenant Colonel Major.

When I took the SASS Delta Queen cruise last spring, one of the participants went by the alias of "General Nuisance."  One day he wore a pair of longhandles with general's shoulder straps attached to them.
