Once again it's time for people to complain about Retail getting Christmas stuff out before Halloween.
Having worked a lot of years retail you get bitched at if you do it and you get bitched at if you don't.
So they put it out because the ones who would bitch about it not being out are planning to buy. Simple economics based on customer demand. ;)
-
every Mary or snowflake and liberal is gonna bitched about something..... ::)
I was in Home Depot the other day ...full song Halloween. Gourds & pumpkins to large yard displays ( some pretty cool looking stuff $$$ )
It will be on sale the day after Halloween and gone a day or two later replaced with Christmas displays.
Out here at the ranch ...no point in deco for Halloween ...no trick -o- treaters
we do a tree around the end of Nov. 1st. week of Dec. ( same one ) "SHE" gets festive decor up ... that's about it.....
-
I deplore the commercialization and early pushes, but I do enjoy the holiday merrymaking from thanksgiving through the new year.
Since Mrs Marvels parents passed about 7 years ago, she has been less ... enthusiastic...
about holidays... perhaps this year I can get her to listen to christmas music...
So I try to get my outdoor lights ( for our own benefit, it is nice to encourage the neighbors to do the same and see the lights after dark) and the indoor victoriana deco up just before turkey day....
Then I am lucky if I get them down by march lol...
The tree is very easy as it is a very convincing 4 foot artificial one, with permanent led lights.
I have it mounted on a plywood base, and it just goes back into my dungeon shop till next year.
-
Last evening guessers were forecasting Rain thru Saturday 75% today...?
now this morning the same dipsh**s are saying 10% today 15% Wednesday and 0% Thurs. thru Saturday....
how they manage to get that far off the two extremes , and still predict with some pure chance degree of noncertainty the posable track of a hurricane in 16 or 20 models ?.
I think it is a plot to sell water. plywood & generators course the joke is on retailers, cause after the Dorian scare I saw carts full of returned generators at Home Depot.
not bitching you understand :-X just observing

Morning y'all.
Coffee and tea are ready.
Buried our cat of 15 years, yesterday.
'Tis 68, overcast and humid. "Humid. Showers and a chance of thunderstorms. Some thunderstorms may produce heavy rainfall. Highs in the lower 70s. West wind 5 to 10 mph shifting to the north in the afternoon. Chance of rain 90 percent."
Slim
-
Sorry to hear that Slim.
Thank you for the coffee, Slim.
My 2 cents on Christmas decor. Suzanne recently started working at Dollar General, she has said everyday she is stocking out Christmas decorations etc. Her youngest son works at Garden Center at Home Depot, he said they had started a couple of weeks now. As soon as Halloween is over they will hit it hard. Out door stuff first.

I'm gonna be good, that discussion in the powder room with the guy with the "tuned" 73 that ain't firing all the time should realize that who ever "tuned" his gun actually broke it.
Got the light springs and a one pound trigger on my Single Six in 32 mag and it will fire small rifle primers, has done a few thousand and they all went bang.
Oh to make up for it I use small pistol primers in the Hornet, both are reloading tips we kinda stay a bit on the quiet side with because it's best because there are more places to not do either than there is.
Any rifle cartridge that goes much over 40,000 psi, it's a no no, also the small rifle primers
in double action revolvers I'm told can be unreliable DA, tuned or not.
Actually that was common in 38 Super in the 80's for 1911 types making major. You can get to a point the regular pistol won't light slow burning powders evenly and velocity goes up and down as well as accuracy and mag pistol takes the pressure a bit to high.
Slim uses the same load in his 32's. A 122 CNBC at 1250 fps ain't really a mouse gun, it's a Mighty Mouse gun. ;D
Hornet the rifle primer is too much and you get erratic velocity also.

What kind of language are you gibbering about? Are you just avoiding us picking on your Bronchitis? You do know what brought it in right? I am sure the doctor loaded you up in steroids and antibiotics and in 10 days you?ll feel better.
Coffee is up for those who Need. Predictors say a few more days of this heat wave then snow for everyone. Okay maybe not snow but cooler air and a good chance of rain.

Yep, our old buddy James Spann.
Just call me Scrooge. For some reason, I just can't get into all the decorations and stuff for Christmas. My idea of Christmas lights is changing the bulb on the front porch light from clear to red. Mrs. Hangtree does not find that amusing.

Currently 32 and snowing in Billings. No accumulation, but it's been coming down pretty good since yesterday.
At my store, their version of Christmas decoration is putting out goods that the manufacturer already decorated.

I think you mean soak up the humidity in the air and turn into a mass.
Don't care anymore, don't have to go to work and deal with it, they can decorate or not when they want.
Just hit the December 26 candy sales and wrapping sales so you can have rolls of wrap standing in the corner all year long.

Auto message states my Social Security has been suspended due to possible fraudulent activity, then prompts me to dial 1 to speak to a reprehensive representative !
Yeah ! sure ! SCAM you betcha ...course I have not pressed 1
Robot dialed message...probably routed through the NY area Code ?.

Got back from prenuptial dinner for the niece, wedding is at 3 PM tomorrow. Things can settle down. Rita still has to finish sewing her dress.
Take a couple days off and then start on the house from head to toe so we can just hole up and do what we want this winter.
Gonna have at least a weeks supplies or actually more, gonna park pickup behind her car so I won't have to go anywhere and let it snow. Can keep the house warm enough with gas oven and charge batteries in vehicles if need be.
May get a couple inches middle of the week, can't wait to see the little brown dog with his first snow.
Little brown dog is growing fast, we think he's about 4 months now.
First picture is his don't mess with me stink eye look. Second one is his I'm sorry I won't do it again look. Niece says when he uses that look you can't stay ,and for long. ;D
He's sharp as a tack, if he gets in trouble with me he goes to her, in trouble with her he comes to me. Both, he goes to the door tobe let out, then he's a good dog for going potty. ::)
No regrets here, discovered something today, he has a little mole behind his left nostril, right where Rowdy had one, not unusual, just odd to have it in the exact same place. Pointed it out to Rita and she said it just proves he was meant for us.

My youngest Grand daughter got baptized this morning, She did NOT like the cold water, Had a gathering afterward with food and such. I have to ask, when did people stop dressing for church? My usual is either a plaid button up, or a nice polo, with my nicest jeans and polished boots. Can't afford a suit.
I'm back in Billings. Mostly uneventful trip back, though the cruise control in my truck quit working about 30 minutes into the trip. Was going 70 through a flat area and it decided to give up the ghost and I dropped to 50 really quickly. I think it's a fuse.

Hey Slim,
The man in my profile picture came off the album cover for the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's 1972 landmark album "Will the Circle Be Unbroken", or more commonly known as the "Circle Album". The picture is reported to be that of Admiral David Dixon Porter. I have just always admired that picture.

David Dixon Porter was a United States Navy admiral and a member of one of the most distinguished families in the history of the U.S. Navy. Promoted as the second U.S. Navy officer ever to attain the rank of admiral, after his adoptive brother David G. Farragut, Porter helped improve the Navy as the Superintendent of the U.S. Naval Academy after significant service in the American Civil War.Wikipedia

Admiral David Dixon Porter was the son of Captain David Porter who held the honorary title of commodore.
David (James) Glasgow Farragut was indeed a ward of Commodore Porter.
Currently there is an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer named for both of them and the 5th ship to carry their name.
Another son William David Porter was a flag officer a ship named for him was lost to a kamikaze"Val" dive bomber ae Okinawa.

Going to get a MRI to be sure, if it's worse we caught it early.
You know how I always say I love our local chain groceries? Went and got groceries, bagger came over and bagged and carried out. As we got them in the car I noticed his name tag. Asked him if they were that short of baggers today. He said no, he needed the exercise and it was good to be able to do any job if he had to.
Told him his dad always said the same, was Pat Raybould, son of the founder and present CEO.
One of many reasons I shop there.

Had our last good weather day for the next ten days. Today was a high of 76, and tomorrow is only getting to a high of 52. Followed by a low of 23 the net two nights.
At the same time we are under a Red Flag Warning for the next two days, due to low humidity and high winds. Until then we are to follow the following recommendations:
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Avoid outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry
vegetation, such as yard work, target shooting, or campfires.
Follow local fire restrictions. Check weather.gov/reno for
updates and livingwithfire.info for preparedness tips.
Need some rain! None in the forecast. :P

BNSF agent ? had to look that up ...some kind of Rail road guard ?
RR Police for BNSF, they are legal police officers with arrest powers. If you don't believe that trespass on their property, they will put you in cuffs and take you to the nearest pokey.
Normally they stay to BNSF business, but will do back up in emergencies, in this case had it went different he would have cuffed the guy and called the locals to come take custody.
In this case more drastic action was needed, police say attempted assault was done on people with a non-firearm weapon. Rumor is it was a stun gun.
Word is not official yet but looks like it will go down as a legitimate kill.
-
This was before he got his pickup,
https://www.1011now.com/content/news/Heavy-police-presence-at-Chick-Fil-A-in-south-Lincoln--562541821.html
Most left the building at this time, had they been inside there would have likey been others injured or killed.
Doubt you could put a jury of 12 people here that would come back as anything but justified.
Had a citizen stop a robbery at a store 10 blocks from where I used to work, guy threatened to beat the clerk if he didn't hand over liquor, lady came in the store and shot him in the shoulder. Cop in charge arrested her, was let go with out bail, normal procedure.
Charges were dropped in a few days. DA said in not so many words that the big SOB was a deadly threat to the clerk and the customer and he sits with a big bandage and about 10 charges with a $250,000 bail.

Good for her... antis wont hear it, wont make any front page but it was good shoot.

Yes Sir ....several films ACW & Texas History
John was co-producer I was the Production designer or Art Director.
One time on location in Centerville Virginia in our Hotel Lobby we held a Jam session John Ray Herbeck they played a number of CW era songs...Ray Herbeck was also a Producer- and Director Ben Burtt ( think Star Wars )
Jeff Hanna was there visiting the location sets ....so he played some too ...cool thing was it was impromptu , course (we) knew who was playing ...
but many people at the hotel had no clew ...

Ray Herbeck is credited for civil war type scores. Glory I believe is the one I recall.

Ray was an Associate Producer on Glory.... John was not involved with Glory

Alamo the Price of Freedom yes ....not the Disney product
I was to be on it early on.... when Ron Howard & Russell Crowe were on board ...Disney slashed the budget from 180 Million to 85 Million....
Ron Howard stayed on as producer only ....Hancock Directed ....Denis Quaid stood in for Crowe
Corenblith was hired as the Production Designer
I had left to do "The Hunley" with Ray Herbeck

I know there are a many here that might disagree with me here. However this story of the Alamo was better than John Waynes

Question for you cast bullet rifle reloaders, but a little background first.
I am loading non-gas check cast bullets in .30-40, .30-06 and .32-40. I am using a 5/32" pin punch to bell the mouth of the cases so as to not shave lead off when setting the bullet.
I am used to loading pistol rounds (.32 Mag, .38 Spl, .44 Spl, .45 Colt, .45 ACP, etc.) and belling the mouth of the case with a Lee Powder Through Expander Die that comes with the Lee reloading die sets.
How do you get a non-gas check bullet in the case without shaving lead off?
Slim
-
I use a Lyman "M" die. Lee also makes a case mouth belling die, I think it's like a sizing die with a tapered cone inside. The "M" dies are caliber specific, they have a straight portion just under bullet diameter, and then a step up to a few thousandths over. You would need 2, one for "30 rifle" and one ".32 rifle"
https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1011246697
https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1011184394?pid=140461
I have not used the Lee one, it appears that any case length variations would vary the amount of "bell"
-
I've only loaded for 30-30, I have the Lee die set that comes with the factory crimp die and it bells the mouth of the case so theres no shaving of lead..

Lee makes a bunch of different die sets. You can get the cheapest set, just has FL sizing and bullet seating, or the 3 die that also has the factory crimp. There's also die sets that use a collet type neck resizer.
I think I'll order one of the Lee universal neck expander, to use with all the weird stuff I reload, rather than get another M die for every caliber.

His video on seasoning should be banned, his method is all wrong and does not season cast iron at all. His temps are to low, as bad as Martha Stewart's video.
He's either not as good as many think or he let the writers and producers totally take over.

Reality twit ? all BS smoke & mirrors

Don't think that, but I am friends with several people who could probably do a better job.

I run FB dutch oven group which has some of the best talent out there, we have got tired of when someone has a good question, somebody that doesn't know much will instead of letting some in the group answer it, with in 3-5 minutes has posted to go to YouTube and look for a Kent Rollins video on it.
Not happed in a while because I pointed out a couple times that is rude to the membership of the group who have as much or more talent than Kent, like the old TV show with Walter Brennen, not brag, just fact.😉

Morning all.
22, wind chill to 4. Have 6 inches of white on the ground. Supposed to be cold through Monday, then warm back up to low 50s next week.
Del, I'm a member of a FB group called Ancestral Cooking in Cast Iron. The guy who runs it restores a lot of mistreated old cast iron. It's pretty neat.
I almost traded my AR rifle for a 6" S&W 27-6. The original grips had been replaced with plastic hogue grips, and the frame had surface rusted and been refinished (poorly) with cold blue. So the trade for my ~$400 rifle would have been fair. But, I decided that my lowly 5.56 would be more practical for me than a 357. I made a Cabela's run afterwards and picked up some Hornady Frontier 62gr BTHP, which they have been out of stock for 3 months, and some M855 green tip. Also picked up a new ammo can to put it in, since my other one was full. To top it off, I got a 10% military discount, so total trip cost me $22.

Which of those food show people have you heard of before, I don't watch any of them.
-
Kid, I would probably cause major hemorrhages, strokes and heart attacks.
This is the big one where Kent, Martha Stewart and most the other video gee whizzes don't agree.
They say it ruins the seasoning and I say BS, they don't know how to season right. Since I have never ruined my seasoning that way, itcseems I must be right.
See you have to put the edible oil/fat on very thin and then heat it up beyond the smoke point of that oil, and burn off all the volatiles till the remains form a tough carbon based polymer.
We're based science not myth and one is expected to be able explain why or why not things work using science.
Remember your mother and grandma told you the Easter bunny, Santa and the tooth fairy were real so the "they told me so" don't cut it.
If your group says no soap and tells you Chinese made cast iron contains lead because they use scrap, run as fast as you can, same if they all use liners.
Actually I have 3 groups, the main cooking ones, one on Victorian cooking and a chat group where no politics are allowed.

In MT, you have to show proof of hands-on firearm safety training. Hunter's Ed is the easiest way for most people here to satisfy that requirement.

but if you have had prior Military or police service or have completed HS then it is shortened.

There is no State requirement to have any training. Some counties require some kind of firearms safety training others just suggest you get some training.prior military service is accepted as training for those counties that require it.

One more night below freezing, then we should be back to about normal (highs in the 60's and lows in the mid to upper 30's)
The frosty mornings have set some color around the house. The Honey Locust is now golden yellow. The Creeping Jenny is a bright reddish orange. Once it looses its color it'll be time to cut it all back to the ground to let it start all over again next spring. We keep the Jenny around because it gives us about the only color in the yard (the rest of our trees are all pines).
May have to take a trip up the hill to Tahoe next week and see if the Aspens have any color, before the early snow (we hope) startsfalling.

The senior version is supplied in two consecutive reduced doses, some days apart.
Or so I was told.
Did I believe it ?
We are not sure...
Don,t trust anyone under 50....
Prof Marvel
Holy scrap I stand corrected, senior version is. Stronger nad broader spectrum:
?Fluzone High-Dose is an injected flu vaccine formulated for people age 65 years and older. Like other flu vaccines, Fluzone High-Dose is made up of the three flu strains most likely to cause the flu during the upcoming season. The high-dose vaccine, however, contains four times as much flu virus antigen ? the part of the vaccine that stimulates the immune system ? as regular Fluzone and other standard flu vaccines.
Why is it needed?
In response to a regular flu shot, older people produce 50 to 75 percent fewer antibodies, which protect against the vaccine antigens, than do younger adults.
Evidence that a high-dose flu vaccine can compensate for this difference originally comes from studies that found higher post-vaccine antibody levels in older adults who received high-dose flu vaccines than in those who received standard flu vaccines.
In addition, one study found almost 25 percent fewer cases of proven influenza in adults age 65 and older who took the high-dose vaccine compared with those who took the standard-dose vaccine.?
Ok, don,t trust nobody.

I'm fond of 9mm because I can afford more ammo as a college student.

Is there a college student discount or does the same deal work for everyone?😳

It should work for everyone, provided you have a 9mm.

Ok, but I am reporting you to the written comunications dept.😁

So they only give the discount if you actually own a gun to shoot the ammo in?

Morning y'all.
Coffee and tea are ready.
Loaded some 125gr cast bullet loads and shot the Hi Power. It's a keeper. Removed the magazine safety disconnected. It is plastic. ::)
'Tis 34 and sunny. High of 55.

You can replace the stock trigger with this wider trigger and it does away with the magazine disconnect, that way you can't be accused of removing a safety device and making the gun unsafe,Plus it giver you a better feel of the trigger pull. They have a lot of goodies for Hi-Powers there.

I've been looking at the goodies. The first thing I will be is get thinner grip panels. I have to change my grip to drop a mag. And, the grip gets in the way of applying the safety.
Altamont looks like what I will order. The guy at Lionquest Fitness uses them. They seem to be good quality and a good price. Their slim grips are 1/4" thinner than the stock grips.

Slim, check out http://www.craigspegel.com/ He has some very nice Hi-Power grips that aren't "Plywood" material like the Altamont grips. Might have a bit of a wait, but his grips are fantastic.

Morning all.
Currently 4 degrees, wind chill -14. Have 2 inches of powder on top of yesterday's.
I'm selling my 32acp to my grandma. So now it's time for a trip to the gun shop. I think I'm going to pick up a Taurus 605, just to get a) a cartridge revolver b) a steel frame snubbie and c) a 357 magnum. All within my budget constraints. My local store has a 605 on sale for $250, so for a range toy that will mostly be shooting 38 Special/Long at Coke cans, that's not too bad.

Mid 40's and raining again here. When I arranged for Today and tomorrow off, (As of sat morning) the weather
forecastwild guess was for mid 50s and sunshine, with sun and mid 40s tomorrow. Had a few hour's without rain earlier today, tomorrow maybe the same but 5-10 degrees colder. Trying to get some ground cleared for a new electric line right of way. Got most of the trees cut, but still have brush to drag and stack.

$250 is a bargain. Buy two if they have 'em.
BTW, .357's will be painful in a 605. They are in my Ruger SP101, which is a heavier gun. I only shoot .38's in my SP101.
