Problem with new uberti 1973 20in in 45 colt

It works fine until I put 9 or 10 rds in it. The loading gate doesn't close completely. It binds on the bottom edge. I have to push the gate upward. Sometimes moving the lever a bit will cause the gate to pop back out. You can't cycle the action till the loading gate is back out.

I see your problem, you have a Winchester 1973 and it isn't broken in yet.   

I had a similar problem with my 92, it works itself out after a few loadings.

I sometimes have that problem with my Rossi '92's. If I move the lever about 10 degrees and then close it, the gate pops out to the proper position. I do this all the time, just to be sure. You don't move the lever enough to move the hammer to the first notch, just enough...

Shorten your mag spring by an inch.  When the mag has 9 or ten in it, the spring pressure is against the loading gate ladle & keeps it from closing all the way.  Reducing the pressure will allow the gate to close.  It will also make it easier to put those last couple rounds in.

I took the side plates off and it appears the loading gate screw was not that tight. This allowed the gate to move downward while loading and rubbing on part of the frame. Should have designed it with 2 screws holding the loading gate.

The gate fits into a groove in the side plate.  It only needs one screw.  The simple solution is to remove the screw, degrease the screw and the screw hole and put on a dab of blue loctite.
