30-40 Krag loads
« on: October 01, 2009, 08:01:56 PM »
I just picked up a nice Winchester 1895 saddle ring carbine in 30 Govt. and in the same week a decent cut down 1898 Krag rifle.

My first rifle at age 12 was a Krag which I bought at Kaufman's Surplus on 42d Street in New York City. I still have that rifle.

I haven't reloaded for the round in years and am looking for some mild loads, maybe using lead bullets. My newer Lyman manual says only use the listed loads in Ruger # 3s

Any one have some good loads?

Thanks

This:       http://www.surplusrifle.com/articles2008/trailbosskiss/index.asp         Has become my standard Lead Bullet load for GAF shooting.  Light, accurate, easy on the rifle.  For heavier loadings, lead and Milspec  Jacketed I use IMR 4350.  The Lee Loading manual has lots of load data for the Krag.     www.imrpowder.com       www.accuratepowder.com     www.hodgdon.com    all have data as well.  Do not like to give personal loads out, every rifle acts different,  But the Trailboss load detailed in the above article works great for me.  I use the load with a 200 grain Lee Gas check.
Civilize them with a Krag . . .
