Received Black Dag Bullets from Powder inc  335 grainers and 405s spg lubed 50 of each to test today as well.
If you're shooting long range you might also want to consider the 535gr Lyman postell or the 500gr SAECO M-1881.

Thanks for the tip.  What is long range.  Coming from a High Power background I am thinking 600+

The Cowboy action crowd looks at 100 yards as long range.  At winter range the longest shot is in the 300 yard +- category, will the 405 grainers carry that far OK or do you recommend the heavier bullets at that range?

Decent looking one piece sling : http://cgi.ebay.com/Leather-Sling-Krag-Trapdoor-Springfield-Rifles-/350338771651?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5191d16ac3

At the GAF matchs I've attended, long range has been 400-500 yards.  The 405 will do fine at those ranges, if your loads and sights are matched.  Much past that I'd go with a 500 grainer.

Sarco sling arrived today

1 Piece think it is 65 inch vs the 73 or what ever Hook ends up about centered between two sling swivels when tight vs much closer to the front swivel.  Sling is just barely long enough to go to sling arms.   Do not think there is enough slack to stick head and arm thru to sling across back.  I can get my head and arm thru but the sling is on my neck, not long enough to drop down across chest.

Leather is thick enough, stain is a little off and the whole thing smells wierd.  Would have preferred the Turner Sling, but they turned down the business.  The button is very simple.  Flat disc bottom 3/8 x 1/16 1/4 inch long shank about 3/16 and a 1/8 inch high tapered dome.

The sling Looks like the picture in the link above.  Another guy has what looks to be the same sling 66 1/2 in long up for bid.

Well with the exception of cleaning equipment the krag is now complete with a sling and bayonet

It's too bad the guy at Eureka Arsenal doesn't make them anymore.  His were great!  (Fortunately, I got one before he started having health problems.)  I had bought one from S & S before that, and it was, quite frankly, pretty bad.  Don't get me wrong, I love S & S, but that sling was not what I would consider acceptable.

Right! I should have said, " If you're shooting true long range..."

I'm hoping to get a chance to load some BP .45-70-500's to use in my Pedersoli Long Range Rifle for the Department of the Missouri Long Range Match this summer. I'm also planning on making some minor changes to Fort Scotsmanto facilitate better shooting prior to the match.

Not sure if the 24.5 inch barrel will generate enough velocity with BP to shoot at "Truly Long Range"

Have a feeling the VA will buy me a C Sharps in the not to distant future (perhaps that winter holiday) that will make the trip.

Decisions Decisions 45 /70 45/90, 100, 110 or 120

Cpt.Dan,before you make you choice of caliber give serious consideration to component cost. Those long brass casings can get expensive.
