2006 Muster Round Count
« on: August 11, 2006, 10:02:36 AM »
I believe I saw a posting of the expected ammo requirements for the upcoming 2006 GAF Muster, but have been unable to re-locate it.  It seemed that it was something like 100 pistol and 160 rifle or somewhere in that number.  Seems about right for a 10-stage match.  Kayleen - have you come up with a requirement for the main match?  As I probably won't be arriving in Ackley until Friday, I may not be there in time for any side matches.

On a side note, I recall some discussion at one time concerning those shooters who opt for shooting a single-shot (trapdoor, roller, etc.) rather than a lever-action in a main match, having a reduced round requirement, like 5 or 6, instead of 10.  This may have been only someone discussing a local club's policy - I am not necessarily advocating that this be implemented at our Muster, just getting clarification.
Thanks

Guns,
I have the tally at 221 for rifle and revolver currently. There are three bonus stages and they require 12 shotgun.
Please study up on Civil war history and some old west trivia items.
I have had the request to shoot the long range target that is set at 1000yds. This will take place around 4:30 on Friday afternoon. We shut down the rest of the range to do this.
By the way we are still open to suggestions for making this a shoot you will not forget. Get your ideas in and we will try to include them.

Guns, the match will be shot with the standard CAS lever action rifles.  HOWSUMEVER! I and I alone have permission to shoot the match using both my Krag and my Trapdoor with proper loads as a demonstrator for a possible "Battle Rifle" class at future Musters.  You can find the proposed rules for this in a thread farther down.  This may have been where you got your somewhat cornfuseded information . . .

Let us get this demonstration in the books before descending en masse on some poor SASS/NCOWS range officer with our down loaded Milspec weapons.   ;D

Sgt. Drydock,

I would be interested to know the load for the 45-70 trapdoor, that is of course if you are using a 45-70 trapdoor.  I think that it would be quite interesting to shoot that in a match.

If the targets won't stand up to a hot .45/70 round, they are defective.

It ain't the targets Im worried about so much as nervous match directors and insurance adjusters. A lot of clubs also use mild steel/boiler plate for targets.  No sense tearing them up.  Gotta plan for the lowest common denominator unfortunatly ::)

Sgt., Yesterday at our club's regular monthly shoot I brought out my Pedersoli sharps with my NEW RHO SCOPE(remind me to tell you about that sometime. I'm lovin' it) Anyway I was using full boat BP loads (70gr FF with a 20-1 535gr postell bullet) We were shooting at our regular rifle targets at almost 50 yards. When studying the targets afterward you could pick out a few dimples that were larger than the normal rifle dimples but for most parts I couldn't see much difference. I did manage to knock one of the stands over too. The club president's only comment?, "Well I guess you don't have to wonder if you hit that one." ;D

Kayleen or anyone else who might know.  How many rounds will be needed for the long-range single shot rifle portion?

Kayleen,

Can you please break this out for the number needed for each.  I'll be using different calibers.

Also, I need to ship my ammo in advance (too heavy to pack in the luggage - and who knows what kind of new airline/airport security restrictions may be in effect by then).

Please Kayleen, we need that round breakdown.  I've got 120 rounds of .30 US loaded, I hope that's enough . . .

Sorry guys, I have been kept busy with family business.
For SIDE matches you will need.
Mid-range long range shoot---this is with guns such as a 45-70.                30-35 bullets
Shot gun rounds for the various side matches                                        50+
You will be able to 1. walk through the wooded area and enjoy the quail shoot.
                           2. get on the boat and shoot the pirates trying to overtake your ship.
                           3. Shoot rattle snakes in camp
                           4. Sharp shooter (mid to long range)
                           5. team pole shoot.
                           6. Crater at Petersburg (3 man teams)
                           7.Plainsman shoot.(3 stages, Each stage will consist of 10 pistol(cap & ball
                             3-4 rifle(no more than 12 rounds)
                             BLACK POWDER ONLY
                           8. Poker shoot (5 shots) $2.00 per hand shot or three hands for $5.00,
winnings going to the best hand.

Fastest revolver----                                                                              5
Fastest rifle-----                                                                                   9
Fastest shotgun---                                                                               8
The MAIN stages are revolver-rifle only and it comes to 221 total count
my copy is at my daugter's that is setting up the pages.  But if memory serves me fairly close we have an almost even split for the guns.
There is one stage where the shooter chooses what gun he/ he wants to use. Minimum for the stage is 18+.
Ddoes this Help guys????

Cap and Ball shooters can bring a second pistol, but have to cap on the clock.

I can't do a lot of shooting as I'll only have two Navy Remington cap 'n' ball revolvers and a '61 Springfield rifle-musket, but then I'm coming mostly to meet 'n' greet you fine people and do what I can to help out. Just determined to come and have a good time!

On the "help out" subject, I have been a loading table monitor and a spotter, so I have some experience there. Anything needs doing, I'm game.

I'll have no "authentic" rounds, haven't had time to make them  :(
