I will be hosting the 2018 Grand Muster, June 29 & 30 and July 1st, at my farm.

This Muster will be open to anyone in the GAF. If not currently a member I can help you register. (Membership in the GAF is free and easy) By using Google Earth and going to  41°40'16.24"N Latitude and  99°19'42.54"W Longitude you can see the Grand Muster site. Registration forms will be available on the dispatches page of the Grand Army's Web site. Participation will be limited to 40 shooters. Registration is $80. Meals will be available on site from Delmonico. Those wishing to attend but not compete may do so without registration fee, but be sure to pay the meal fee if you plan to eat with us.

The planned activities include: a 3 stage GAF steel target main match, a Long Range Rifle match, a Precision Pistol match and a GAF Expansion Era Match. While 3 stages for the main match doesn't sound like much these four stages will be of the skirmish format and will feature about 20 knock down targets per stage. Stage design will recount scenes from Spanish American War of 1898. Round counts will be dependent on the number of times the shooter needs to shoot at each target to get it to fall. 100 rounds at least would be a good plan. This is a match that participants say truly needs to be experienced to be fully appreciated.

Shooters will be able to sight in their rifles on Thursday and Friday afternoon and evening. Sighting in your rifles for the distances used is STRONGLY encouraged.

Long Range Rifle will be 100-300yds. on armor so full power jacketed bullets are fine for it.

This muster will be a primitive camping event. We will have a tent city and I have tentage for about 10 individuals if you don't have your own contact me, I can help. We should have plenty of time to sit around the campfire and visit.

The average high temperature in this area on June 30th is around 87 degrees

I've attached a FAQ sheet and a suggested equipment list.

We expect to run 3 or 4 Squads shooting concurrently. Each squad will cycle through each of the 3 main match stages, the long range match and the sidearm match on Saturday. The Long Range Match and the Precision Pistol Match will each be treated as a stage. We will run ahead of schedule if possible. We should be finished shooting the match by Saturday evening with awards presentation Sunday morning; however, if we run behind we will finish up Sunday morning.

If you have a UTV/ATV that you would like to bring, you are welcome use it between stages.

The banquet will return to the Comstock Premier Lodge ( http://www.comstocklodge.com/ ) for 2018 and the price of the banquet is included in your registration. If you are bringing a spouse or child who isn't a registered shooter the cost of an extra ticket for them is $15.00 Lodging is available at the lodge as well. If you are considering staying at the Comstock Lodge, don't wait too long to make reservations. I know at least one room was booked Saturday night for next year's muster. I've also reserved a block of rooms at the Wildlife Inn at nearby Taylor as well (308-942-6234) early registration is also suggested

If it's going to rain I'd take a tent, if not reserve me my usual room.

Yes, at this point, use last year's form. I'll get my adjutant going on the 2018 form; however, he's been having some health issues, so please be patient. It might be a while before he can get the updated form out.

Sold out threshold is 40.

I would ask all to go here: http://www.cascity.com/forumhall/index.php/topic,17271.0.html    and read up on the class structure and regulations.  There have been some changes, including a slight realignment of the Military Class Structure to better reflect History and usage.  Cap and ball users should be pleased as well.

These reflect our post match staff meeting, as well as input from participants throughout the Muster.  I thank everyone for their involvement and input.

Changes look good to me, I never could see excluding GEW98s. But, with a 60round limit, everyone's going to have to use only part of their double row mills belt.

I don't think it'll be that big a deal. Even before the change I only ever put 65 in my belt

In case anyone is wondering, in the skirmish format there's really no advantage in speed to repeaters over single shots.  We've checked the times over several years, and it comes down to how many times you miss.  As the saying goes, you can't miss fast enough!

Not our format, but always a fun watch.

Well there you go-repeaters are a waste of time.

OK, this is no sh@@,  but,  ;D  one of my Army Drill Sergeants, (the only Infantryman of them all, and yes I know, most people are entirely too clever to join the Infantry  :D) once said, and I quote-"Myself, I prefer the old trapdoor Springfield. "

Of course, I did not question his statement, because, well, he could get really freaky really fast! Weeeee!!! :D

He probably like to be able to look thru 'em after shooting them.   And one never questions the Drill Sergeant.

(But damn!  What I would not give to know the story behind that statement . . .)

He was a Sergeant First Class, Vietnam vet. I learned a lot from him.

And one never questions the Drill Sergeant.
