US Army Helmet Spike
« on: March 17, 2006, 11:03:41 AM »
Gentlemen (and Ladies):

I have an M1881 US Army Helmet Spike and Acorn/Leaf Base, free to a good home.

The spike and base are heavily patinated, showing that they have not been polished for many a year.  Sadly, I do not have a spare nut-and-washer, but the spike has standard SAE threads, (6-32, I believe) and as the nut and washer would be completely within the helmet, a trip to the local hardware store should provide one with the necessaries.

First come, first served.

I have the honor to remain,

Your Obedient Servant,

Bvt. Captain Malachi Thorne

Ladies and Gentlemen:

While I am happy to give the spike to a good home, it is my intention that the person who acquires these items actually use them in the construction of a helmet for GAF use.  If this is your intent, I'd be happy to send it to you.

Dear Malachi Thorne,

I would love to have the spike. I portray  a 4th us artillery  quartermaster  sergeant.  I am having an 1881  red plumed  field artillery  helmet  made for me( I been  waiting on it for 8 months!) However I wold also like to portray the infantry or others of this era that wore the spike!  We are trying to  figure out how to  get the GAF "off the ground " in the Atlanta Ga area. I believe we can do this now with US Scout at the helm.

You can reach me at debick@bellsouth.net.

Best,Cannon  Fodder
