Bob is probably in or around Mannheim, Deutschland. His address giveaway is the APE (used to mean Army Postal Europe) and the AE which stands for Army Europe.  The "zip" code is awfully familiar and sounds like Mannheim.  Been away a few years (40+) so it could have changed but I doubt it. Takes ALL branches of our military a long time to change anything even when it might help.

Been there, done that, wouldn't mind going back to vist.

Pony Express,  Who were you assigned to at Nellingen?  I was assigned to 10th SFG out of  Bad Tolz but was attached to HQ 4 BN 41st FA in Schwabisch Gmuend  40 K's east of Stuttgart. Had a great time there and would like to go back to the area to visit.

Gripmaker, I was with the 198th PSC, I think they had detatchments in either Bad Tolz or Swebisch G. It was mostly a desk pusher outfit, but I was in the motor pool, not in record keeping. 198th was under the 38th P&A Battalion, some of the other detatchments might have belonged to them, or 9th replacement detachment. not sure of my memory now, but did one of those have a shooting range? I remember that when they closed the range at Panzer Kasern, some of us started going to a different post to shoot on the weekends. About 40 km sounds about right, east or northeast of Stuttgart, I just remember it was all back roads to get there, no autobahn.

I'd like to go back there just to look around again, too. But Nellingen isn't there anymore, they closed it 20 years ago, just after they disbanded VII Corps. I think some of the others that were in our"orbit" are still open, Patch, Panzer, Kelly and Robinson.

Pony Express,  There was a range at Goeppingen but I never used it as we were usually sent to the USAEUR long range facililty at Dachau. Man that place stunk on a hot day after a rain. Too much history coming up through the soil.  Talk at you more at the Muster.
