I read on the Barracks Board, ( strangely not here on NCOWS ) the 2020 National will be held in Parker KS.
-
Details are still being worked out. The host range for the last 12 years has gotten greedy. They wanted 2 1/2 times what they have charged in the past.
(The KVC, Double M Cowboys and the Johnson County Rangers have all expressed and interest in hosting the 2020 NCOWS National Match.)
Proper announcements will be made soon.

That would be my fault as I was trying to work out dates that would not step on GAF. Never dawned on me someone would take it upon themselves to announce it for the Executive Committee.

Well....
The 2020 NCOWS National match will be held June 3-6 at the Free State Rangers range SW of Parker Kansas.
After much research, comparison and discussion; the Executive Committee selected the Kansas Vigilance Committee's proposal to host the 2020 National Match.
Items considered were;
Range Facilities (including stages & long range)
Hotel availability
Banquet; menu, facility & price
and of course Cost.

Well, that is cool, as Google tells me it is only 11 miles east of where we normally shoot. Sounds like a lot of work for the KVC guys. Oh wait, that includes me, gulp.
Interesting timing, as I have been reevaluating my approach to life and had decided I would try and make the trek east to participate, just ordered a canvas wedge tent and all. So, now I will have a closer commute.

Looks like a nice venue
it is 1300 miles ... I can now look into logistics
-
First of all thanks to the Evansville members for the good run we had there. We got to watch Dustin grow up from being a gopher, to Match Director. Miss Theresa and I always enjoyed the shoots in Evansville even though I HATED driving through St. Louis.
Thanks to the KVC for stepping up and keeping our National Shoot alive! We're looking forward to a new venue, hope it's not too far west for our friends in the east. The reality is the shoot can't be close for everybody, central Kansas is pretty close to the middle.

Well and fairly said, Mr. Scott!

Hey Major,
If you fly into KC, it is just about 1.5-2 hour drive (not 100% that it is not closer to 1.5, as I am putting in the perspective of my typical driving routine)

" ... The reality is the shoot can't be close for everybody, central Kansas is pretty close to the middle."
that is very true ....as popular song writer said in lyrics ... " you can't please everyone" or meaning to that effect :)

My sentiments exactly Mr. Scott.
I was fortunate enough to attend the first eleven Nationals in Evansvile. I had to miss number twelve due to our move to Florida. I'm going to do my darndest to make the 2020 Nationals. The NCOWS Nationals is a first class premiere event not to be missed.
-
I believe it was during my first trip to the Nationals in Evansville that I met the outlaw biker turned old west desperado Johnny McCrae! One of my favorite things about the shoot is meeting people from all around the country.(Texas included!)

John that is part of the logistics I was thinking of.... a road trip with You Capt John and myself
Flying is not a pleasant option , with guns and foo for all ?.

I am not sure what I was smoking. Had the DUH moment about flying with firearms much later.

It can be done by checking them in locked cases. Ammo is a different story. It would have to be shipped ahead of time.
-
I've done it ( flying with checked firearms ) .... was not a harmonious experience...
I most adventures experience , was when the Red Cap ( Porter ) allow my locked ( airline approved w/ their logo affixed ) case to fall off the cart, popping open ! even thought it had 4 clasps 2 of which keyed entry .... allowing my two guns (rifle & revolver) to totally expose , that raised more that a few concerns , I can tell you !
I was present when he dropped it >:(
The Case was damaged and would not lock ...so the airline replaced it with a new one, as I offer to hand in the keys to the damage one, and the shocker was when I was told all of their cases are KEYED ALIKE !!! ...as in anyone with alike case or any yahoo on the tarmac with a key could open my "secure" case ::)
I'll pass on flying with guns
-
Maybe this old outlaw biker will ride his Harley out to Kansas.
-
yeah I can see it now !

For the 1st time in years, I can commit. I have my irons in too many fires, my schedule is set by December the year before, so if not on paper, select what is scheduled. Motel reservation made. Already on paper, 6/4 last day at work, must attend, but 1/2 day. So will miss side matches, & arrive PM on the 4th.

I too would like to thank the folks at Evansville for their hard work
and MANY years of dedication. As we have truly become a National
organization, I feel it's a good thing to move our 2 premier events
around every few years. After helping put on the convention for 4
successful years, I'm glad it's over, but I'm proud of the job we did.
I don't think it's fair to expect the same group to keep going on and
on putting on one of our major events. I look forward to next year
in Kansas.

::) Hmmm. It would be nice to get down in that area and see friends from Garnett again. Time would be tight though, as I am usually up to my eyeballs in getting ready for the Grand Muster, but at least it's reasonably close.
I'll see what I can do. It would be my first NCOWS match besides the Ruckus'

You can do it. I?ve been doing the National in Indiana, returning and getting ready to leave a week later for the Muster.

Is there going to be potable water available for campers? How about port-a-potties? Any chance of showers?

Aw Charlie now that you have that fancy tin teepee, you're looking
for all the luxuries. This is NCOWS, the woods and the creek should
do just fine.

Water on site.
I am working on showers. If nothing else there will be an enclosure for campers to use a solar shower.

There will be water, Either a large container that can be tapped or a water run each day.

I did it once in a creek. My dad and uncle were drinking down stream, they didn't think it was too funny ;D !

Water on site & solar showers = two fewer items on my checklist ;D
Sounds good to me,

In a few days I will be posting details on the long range match. Location, Pre registration ect. jt

If you are a long range shooter you may have noticed a preregistered box on the registration form. This will begin at the convention. you will be able to pre pay for the long range shoot on Wed. and reserve your shooting time. Time slots are 45 minutes starting at 8:30. there will be 72 slots (6 at a time ) Will shoot from a covered area at 200 300 & 400 yards. jt
-
Call me to reserve slots for the long range shoot. There are 45 min. slots for 6 shooters each, starting at 8:30 and running until 4:45.
People at the convention have first picks but Monday we will start filling call in's. Payment must be made before your choice is reserved. (620 256 5866) jt

Trap, what are we shooting off of? Picnic tables, shooting benches, can we use shooting sticks, rifle rests, off hand or prone?. How many shots in that 45 min.? With 6 shooters, do we shoot one shot at a time, or can we shoot at our own will? These are questions I would have asked you at the convention.

Charlie, Good ??s
Answers: You may use sticks , Shoot prone or off hand; Shooters will have 1 minute to get a shot off when your # is called, 15 shots at 3 distances. May bring a stool or chair of your own. None will be supplied.
I believe we will shoot Pistol Cal in AM. and big bore in PM.
Any one can call me to reserve a slot by sending check or receipt of payment. jt (620 256 5866)

Will send the application in, but at this time, I consider it borderline for happening.

Dusty, I would think that anyone with any amount of optimism would expect things to be somewhat returned to normal by June. Will be a real ugly situation if not. I'm not quite believing Mr. Trumps Easter deadline however.
Mike

I am more optimistic vs pessimistic, but things are going to get worse before getting better. My personal view, this won?t be clear by 1st weekend June. 2nd, error to caution. I work in a hospital with the highest count in any county in Iowa, even if things are winding down, to protect attendees, I probably shouldn?t attend.

I totally agree with err to caution Brian. Stay safe/healthy!
