I will try to get my application sent out soon. Won't be staying in the barracks, Will be on an  :accompanied tour" again, with wife and baby. Since I expect there won't be married quarters available, how close would it be to the nearest hotels? Wife is a bit apprehensive about trying to camp with the baby just yet. Of course, where we stay will make a difference in the ammount of extra meals we will need, for her.

Also, how long is the long range? Steel or paper targets? (Lead only, or jacketed?)

T-54 DAYS TILL THE 2010 GRAND MUSTER

Hello to all from Texas Sarge.

Sorry I havn"t answered the latest questions but I'll try now.  First a little info on what has happned to my family since Thursday 9-16-2010. My middle son Cole Clayton(Windbreak) who is 24years old was in a kaiacking accident on Thurs in one of the local rivers here in New Braunfels Tx and near drowned.  Cole is in ICU unit in the hospital and regained conciousness late Friday THANK GOD.
When awake he can respond to most questions by hand and head movement, kidneys arn't working yet but all in all he is doing soom much better.  It will be a long recovery road for all involved.  Please keep him in your prayers.

Pony Express--Lockhart is about 5 miles or so from the range, motel listing on GAF web site in the application part.  Long range up to 400 yds, lead only, steel targets.
Glad to hear the other applications will be coming soon, must return to the hospital now.

Sorry to hear about your son's accident, but glad to hear he is recovering now!

I was just checking the websites of some of the local motels, will have to call later.

As for the long range......Lead and 400 yards...Hmmm, sounds like a game better suited to trapdoors! Small bores might take a bit more experimenting, the Krag load I use would require a LOT of elevation on the rear sight to carry!

Exactly!
I might have to go with the 45/70 or the 50/70 Springfield  this time around. Got less than 2 months to practice-no pressure.

You ready to shoot that Colt's Bisley out to 100 yards Pony Express?!

A large part of this game is mental. And there is no one more mental than I.

Good on you-Sane people are boring.

::)

What's the target? A 4x8 sheet of plywood for the bullseye? CAS targets at 10 yards are easy enough for me to miss with it!

Some months back I took to shooting my Colt's .45 New Service at 100 yards exclusively-but single action! Last time I fired double action at 100 yards was almost 40 years ago-and a 4x8 sheet of plywood would have been somewhat safe but I had fired a pistol very little at that time.  Still haven't got out to try the 100 yards double action-Where does Capt Mack come up with this crazy stuff?!

That's my class. Well, I guess I'll have to be satisfied with no higher than 2nd place.

You're much too kind. And anyways, I saw you guys whippin' those breechblocks fore 'n aft on those Springfield .45s-You all were pretty darn good!

I still have not given up on camping on site, instead of renting a motel room. what facilities are available for primitive campers?(shower)? Didn't see any info on that on the Agerita Ranch website. How close is the town and camping area to the range area?

Col. Pitsptr,  As I recall, I have as yet to miss a Grand Muster. As RCJ said, 2 in KS, 2 in IA and 2 in NE.  Anyone up for Staff Officer? Haven't done much revolver shooting except at Raton in June and durned little there. Mostly shot my 66 in 44-40 out to 600 yds. It even impressed brother Bob. But then, he didn't do too bad either once he got the hang of it.

How is the construction on the barracks coming?  Might have to bring a tent along as long as we don't have to reckon with any "critters". Too many run-ins with slithery and stinging things while living in Dimmit Cty.

Greetings to All

As you are aware, Texas Sarge has his hands full.

There was a question about camping.  Period camping is encouraged and is close to the Barracks and restrooms with hot and cold running water.

In the event of bad weather or heavy snowfall we can move to the Pavilion, which has restrooms and a shower.

The stages will be challenging but will be more fun than watching a monkey eating ice.

Please direct questions to either Capt. Mac or myself (Scooter). Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Are there bed frames in the Barracks, or should we plan on bringing a cot?

RCJ

You might to bring a cot as a backup.  The Barracks should be ready however a further inspection will be made this weekend at our monthly shoot.  I will report at that time.

Maybe Capt Mac can post a picture of the Barracks.  Isn't it great when a plan comes together.

T minus 45 Days!

I have received River City John's registration.

I'll snap some pics of the Barracks at our match next weekend and give y'all a progress report.

RCJ, would you please be in charge of prizes like last year?  You did a phenomenal job and we'd like you to continue.

I would be glad to help.

I'll print out a generic 'Thank You' for inclusion with each prize.
I figure the less you have to e-mail, or mail, back and forth the better for you. (Unless you want to forward the information to me as to donors and their prizes as you receive them.) As long as there is a master list being kept by someone on site as the early donations arrive, adding on those that people bring with them won't be that difficult. I'll print enough generic 'Thank You' notices to cover what I feel will be enough for the job, and bring 'em along. I will just provide a pre-stamped envelop and rely on each recipient to address their own.  We can update the list as the troops arrive.
And I'll act as the Awards Master, too, unless you have someone in your unit who wants the honor.

Sound like it will work?

By the way, do we have a round count yet? Or have I overlooked it?

RCJ

"I have finished writing the main match stages and the round count is: Rifle-93+ Revolver-87+  the plus in the count is for the
mandatory knock downs, so bring some extra ammo for both weapons."

This answers my question, Texas Sarge, I reread the earlier posts.

:'( :'( :'( Unless something unforseen happens between now and then, I'm not going to be able to make it. :'( :'( :'( :'( I wouldn't be able to leave here untill about midnight the night/morning befor the muster starts and would have to be home the morning after it gets over. I just can't function on one nights sleep in 4 days. Sometimes I wish I was a shark so I didn't need to sleep. :-\
