Title: Sling for a Winchester 1866 musket
Post by: Baltimore Ed on February 24, 2024, 07:45:23 PM
What would be the correct nomenclature for the sling that went on the Winchester 1866 Musket? Going to try to find one at the MACA show in Balmer next month.

:) Ah, Um, Well, Rifle Sling??  Or, perhaps Musket Sling??  I doubt it would be much, if any different than the Reproduction slings offered for the Martial Henry Rifle.  Maybe.  I doubt the average, or above average Punter would know the difference.

This was the only decent picture I could find of one.

That’s what I saw too Deacon. A loop with a double headed brass button on the bottom with a buckle for adjustment on the other end. As the sling swivels are small on my ‘66 it would need to be 1 inch wide.

Ed, I read your description, and it sounds like the one on my Berthier.
