Wow, a shipment of 1000. Back when I was buying most of my milsurps, you could see 100 at some gunshows. Back then they were still bringing in M-91 long rifles, but I never bought any Russian ones, but got a Westinghouse and a Remington.

ONe of my goals is to find one of the long infantry rifles.  Don't think I can afford a Remington or NEW!  Did manage to get ahold of one of the last M38s to come into the country.

Waaayy back when I bought them, I think I paid about 125 for the Rem and 250 for the NEW. Rem has an odd stock, it was never sanded, looks like it came directly from the machine that shapes it and then finished. But it's very dark walnut, not any Russian wood. Handguard is missing, but I don't think I'd ever find one that matched. NEW has been in Finland, still has it's origional stock, but sanded, and a chrome Russian bolt. Thought at the time I was paying way too much, but I really wantd that one, it's the one I shot last year at COWS one or two stages.

Finally broke down and purchased a Commie Rifle a double stamped Tula Hex off Gunbroker from Inman Arms.  Check is in the mail as they say, and have asked for delayed shipping so it arrives 31 May when I will be home to sign for it.

Are all hex receivers OK, or only a true 1891. Or is the 19/30 in hex close enough.

Lets face it, there are plenty of other models that had hex receivers. I have a Finnish 39, & a Russian 38.

THe Hex reciever 91/30 is allowed, in addition to the earlier 1891 infantry, Dragoon and Cossack. (a Hex 91/30 is simply an M1891 Dragoon with slightly different sights)  The M38 Carbine is allowed in Era of Expansion in liu of the incredibly rare 1907 Carbine.  The M1939 Finn is not allowed.

For one of the shooters in my area. How about a Finnish 27 built from a 91. My initial is no, for it is a resembles the Finnish 39.

Most any hex reicever finn, if in the basic straight russian pattern "fishbelly" stock would be acceptable.  Any pistol or scant gripped stock would not be allowed ie the M39.  The M27 "Spitz" rifle with its altered forend would not be accpetable I'm afraid.  Nor would the other shrouded barrel models.

Took delivery of the rifle mentioned and shown in Photograph in my post above.

Have only looked externally looks like arsenal reblue, stock looks great with exception of kinda cheezy high gloss finish think true oil.  Overall with the exception of a couple of worn spots on the upper hand guard near front band and end of stock externally looks like a new rifle.  Muzzle has been counterbored 1.5 to 1.75 inches.  Bore is dark but strong rifling.

Bayonet looks brand new.

I may actually like this commie rifle.

Need to clean off the cosmo and try the bulgarian silver tip ammo got 880 for $200 from wideners.

Ishvesk or Tula?  (Star or Triangle on the barrel shank)  What year?  I cant see in your picture, but does the rear sling slot have the same screw in Escutchons as the forearm?

Looks like a very nice prewar Mosin.  I've found those bores will often clean up surprisingly well.  Don't worry about the counterbore.  The one counterbore I have may be my best shooter!

Don't forget that Green Spam can ammo is corrosive!  Good shootin' stuff though!

I think the finish they use on those is some kind of shellack, not an oil finish.

From what I have read on the Hex rifles I think I can almost outfit a squad.   ;D   I have two Hex 91/30s, a M38 and a Finnish M28 built on a 1894 receiver.

The seller inman arms from Inman Kansas says it is a double stamp.   The date stampings I find are 5/49.  Off to the left of the 5 is the top half of a 1.  If there originally was a 4 digit date the spacing of the numbers was a little farther apart than the 4 and 9.  Also the two middle digits have been ground off as they are not visible.

There is a star on the barrel indicating Tula now that I have looked it up.  Seller said it was a Tula.  The rear stock slot is just cut into the stock with no metal at all.  The same 4 digit number is on barrel, bolt, mag floor plate and butt plate.  A different serial number and the importers name is roto etched into the left angled flat of the receiver. The Tula star is on the bolt and firing pin knobed part.

Was surprized to see the sight graduated down to 100 meters.  Will be interesting to see where the bullets land at 100 with respect to point of aim.  Wonder where the Ruskies were taught to aim on a man?  My recently acquired VZ 24 only goes to 300

Thanks for the tip on the corrosive nature of the Bulgarian Ammo, plan to use old GI RBC or possibly even moose milk or windex with vinegar to rinse out any salts.

I have two hex receivers, one was made in 1899, captured and reissued by the Austro-Hungarian Empire then sold to Finland and used by the Finnish army. It's amazing that it remains in the original Imperial Russian configurations accept for the AH and Finn markings. My other one is a Peter the Great made in 1915 with all of the Imperial markings intact and use during the Spanish Civil War.

Wow should have looked when I took it apart and cleaned out all the cosmoline, think Inman cleaned out most of the external cosmoline.  There was a little that was runny inside the bolt, possibly some kind of solvent had been used that thinned it out.  Got it out of the bore using lacquer thinner.  Ran a patch with Sweets down the bore, took out some copper bore still dark.  Does not look pitted at all.

Made the mistake of trying to fix the bayonet.  Little too tight and will not twist to latch.  Scratched some of the bluing on the muzzle.  No biggy i guess.

Could go shoot it tomorrow but will be 100 degrees by noon so may put it off till the fall.

Took it apart again yesterday tang stamped 34.  WII gun redone in 49 I guess.  Had a heck of a time getting upper handguard back on.  Do not remember problem first time I took it apart.  Cannot believe moisture had got to the wood.  We dont have any in AZ.
