Went and did it! New to me ArmiSport 1865 Spencer
« on: April 12, 2023, 06:24:17 PM »
Hello Friends.....

Well.....I went ahead and did it. In Bound, new to me ArmiSport 1865 Spencer Carbine.

This is a GunBroker deal. Armisport 1865 Spencer in 56-50. Near New,but with a "DT" date code: 2003, I think.
Seller agreed to terms: 20% down and 90 days for balance. Will include 20 StarLine cases and some cast bullets.
From an estate; no case nor paperwork. Final price - $1,620 shipped.

Not the very best deal, but I'd venture not the worst, either.

Now my Henry Rifle has a playmate.

Am mostly a black powder shooter, but may play around with smokeless. Have 7 lbs of Goex FFFG and 5 lbs of FFg Schuetzen.
Besides my cowboy guns, have a carbine length 1766 Charleville; 1777 Charleville pistol and a Richmond carbine.

You may find that black powder will bog down your Armi Sport . . . they are made very tight and the mechanism inside will clog up very quickly using black powder.  Check out the SORI thread for what works best with the Armi Sport Spencer.

Interesting,  I have A Taylors / Armi Sport Carbine and haven't had any issues shooting FFg Goex. I have fired 36 rounds without any wipedowns or swabbing of the barrel. I have not noticed any accuracy issues shooting steel targets in both NCOWS and Cody Dixon matches.

I do anneal all my Starline Brass to increase longevity and minimize blow by.
Shooting about a 325 grain SPG lubed bullet, compressing the FFg powder charge about 1/8".
The bullet is a modified Accurate Molds 51-330S. I eliminated the crimp groove and shortened the base slightly to lighten the bullet a little.

One thing I have noticed is that Spencers do not like to be down loaded below tradition BP velocities. and I get the best accuracy with a MV of about 1000 fps
