Enfield Revolver
« on: July 25, 2008, 08:57:35 AM »
On my weekly gun shoppin' trips to the local pawn shops yesterday, I found an Enfield revolver.  The owner was real busy, ao I didn't get a real close look at it. It appears to be a 38 S&W cal. with about a 4 inch barrel. It looks likea smaller version of the Webley. It does not appear to have a hammer spur. I would appreciate any info on it, how much it's worth, and approximately how old it could be.

It's a double action only. Mostly for tank crews (the point being to avoid snagging the hammer spur in cramped spaces),  WWII vintage. The regular model with the hammer spur entered service in 1932 .

And almost forgot it is a .38S&W, with a 200grs bullit loading.

They were the ill-advised replacement for the larger, more combat-proven .455's.

In their original loading - it had a lead bullet that actually worked well, but when they were required to use a jacketed round, their performance suffered dramatically.

If your piece has import stamps - it's worth less than the $200 suggested - if it has a 'safety' - they were Israeli Police weapons - recently imported and unless you collect cop guns - they have little actual collector value.

They had a 'war-time finish' that was supplanted by black paint, so some can look rough, but aren't.

They 'are' collectable - depending upon condition, who made it and any Property Markings - and clean ones usually go for $225 or so - depending on the mad lust to own one.

Vaya,

Scouts Out!
