When to buy?
« on: December 08, 2017, 12:17:21 PM »
I have finally made up my mind to start acquiring my shotgun. It is to be a Cimmaron 1878 Coach gun. Are firearms prices and selection better before Christmas or after Christmas?

There are not any "Christmas specials" that I know of.  Some prices go up the first of each year, but that is mostly Italian guns since they raise their prices most years.

HOWEVER, Cimarron is currently out of 1878's.  If you call them they may be able to tell you when a shipment is expected.  It could be shortly or it could be a long time.  There have been some fairly lengthy dry spells, but then they get a big shipment (usually at least 600 guns).

But there are a lot of them out there in various dealers hands, so finding one should not be hard.  Try contacting OklaTom or John Barleycorn through this site.

update:
I contacted Val at Cimarron and she says it will probably be a couple months before getting more '78's.

I got my cimarron 1878 from cheaperthandirt.com.  Had a broken spring after the first box af shells. A call to Cimarron had a spring in my hand in nothing flat for Real reasonable price.   Great gun. For two months I sounded like Jack Elam in Rio Lobo.  Then my wife made me quit, now the lines are in my head.

Yep.  What Abilene and MoGo said.

The Cimarron sourced 1878 is the best value for dollar in an Hammer Double bar none.  A little rough on the inside but built like a tank.  There are a goodly number of guns out there on dealer's shelves.  Call around.

PS:  Firearms prices don't fluctuate for holidays.  Anyone whom advertises "specials" as already inflated their price so they can "appear" to discount the item.  They lie like rugs.
